@brandons72vette9 ай бұрын
Not just RC, but the real deal too. I’m an airline Captain. In basic flight training, (It is no different at the airlines)everyone is taught to go to flight idle and that removes the thrust from the equation, as the flare is being implemented, an increase in the angle of attack is aerodynamically braking (bleeding off airspeed) as well as reducing the sink rate. That being said, with ground effect, and the reduction of the sink rate with an increase in AOA; at some point with the reduction of thrust, comes the loss of lift and momentum. You have the 4 forces of flight, in a stabilized approach, the nose has a vector that is high, but it’s tracking about a 45° descent. When the flare without the reduction of thrust is performed, the 45° vector lessens to a more shallow degree, which should mostly parallel the runway, usually by adding slight power and lowering the nose (AOA) is a great technique. The flare with the reduction of thrust, especially the rate of change, takes the 45° descent and brings it down to almost a 90° descent to gravity; and there’s how you slam it in. If the pitch changes, so does the power and vise versa. Smoothness is based upon rate of change. I too noticed him adding power, and I was impressed.

Rare to see a stall-spin in an R/C airplane. The usual technique by most R/C pilots, inelegant as it is, is to just drive it onto the ground at whatever speed. The concept of aerodynamic braking is rarely evidenced. @@brandons72vette
