Worlds Longest Passenger Train!

Amtrak Auto Train. This is the longest passenger train in America and at times is the worlds longest. Amtrak runs the daily Auto Train from Sanford Florida to Lorton Virginia. Count the cars as it crosses the level railway crossing in DeLand Florida. Amtrak has auto racks on this train and you can actually put your car or truck on the train and travel with it between these 2 cities. This is the only train like this in America. Listen in on 160.590 and if you are in Sanford Florida you can listen to them switching and building the train on 161.550 megahertz. I didn’t count the passenger cars but when I worked on the CNR in Canada on the Super Continental we ran anywhere from 22-28 passenger cars in the summer out west. I do like the auto carriers on the tail end of Amtrak. A great way to go to Florida and have your car while you are there!

I’ve seen videos of trains in India. They’re pretty long with about 30 passenger cars and 1-2 locomotives, weather they’re electric, or diesel. I’d say they’re just about the same as the Auto-Train.

It depends what you call longest. Belgium had at some time the world record longest passenger train, with something like 70 coaches, and only 1 locomotive. But they were cheating a bit because only the first 2 or 3 coaches were filled with invited people. Clearly it was not a regular service. They even had to stop all regular services on the line to let the record train pass.

here it contains both passenger and goods train coaches, and no. of passenger coaches here is only 14, but in India, only no. of passenger coaches in a train can reach up to 26-27 without adding goods train coaches, so it is not the longest passenger train in the world

In the Netherlands there was a passenger train with 60 cars. It was 1.6 kilometers long and had a weight of 2.6 million kilo. So I think this was the longest passenger train.(in 1989)

Hello from India !! Technically ..... this doesn't qualify as a passenger train. Out here the regular express / mail passenger trains run with 24 carriages/coaches/bogies/compartments. I just love the ALCO locomotives WDM,WDG & WDP series in the Indian Railways, their sheer power, design and performance is unmatched and very dependable. More than all this I simply cannot get enough of their "chugging" and smoking. No wonder they're referred to as the work-horse of the Indian Railways - they really are. They're slowly but surely getting phased out with the entry of EMD's but it will take some time before they're retired for good.

The worlds longest passenger train is actually the Indian Pacific referencing its route the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. The train is owned by Great Southern Rail Australia and the route is owned by Pacific Southern Railways located in Australia. The train travels on a route from Sydney, NSW, AUS on the Pacific Ocean via Melbourne, VIC, AUS on the Southern Ocean via Adelaide, SA, AUS on the Southern Ocean to its final destination Perth, WA, AUS on the Indian Ocean. The train is one of two of Australia’s Transcontinental railways with the Indian Pacific operating East to West and the Ghan operating North to South. However on to the train it’s self, it has a total of 2-3 Locomotives and 37 Cars including 30 passenger cars, 2 motor rail cars, 4 freighter cars and 1 crew car totalling at a length of 774m (846yd).

I see myself there in this video a few times on this particular day taking video with my iPhone 6S plus of the auto train blasting thru there at deland Florida. So cool. I sure enjoyed my vacation to Florida this year on the auto train. Glad to have met you Jaw Tooth and millennium force there at the Amtrak depot that day for a bit of Train action. It is a long train, but by no means the longest ever. That record goes to the dutch railways who ran a 60 car train with a total lenght of 1608m (1 mile for you americans out there) on febuary 21 1989

I wanted to film the cars being loaded into the train but when we returned it was too late. That is cool that you were there when we were! The intro to this video with the Dash 8 ( I think that's what it is ) switching the train was shot last year in April but the rest of the video including in the station was shot on the 15th. My goal is to put my truck on the train and film the ride along with the vehicles being loaded and unloaded. I saw a special price a few months back. Thanks for watching my video!

Those aren't just freight cars. They are Amtrak auto cars so I count them as part of the train. If you don't count them then the train isn't really that long. I only count them since they are Amtrak and part of this train

It's a hybrid train. In india there are plenty of only passenger trains which has 24 bogies and runs at 130+ km per hour. And most of the freight trains has 50 plus bogies.
