Car accidents. Suicide bombers. Earthquakes. Death of a spouse. Why do some people bounce back from traumatic events while others do not? Is there a biological profile of resiliency? Can science, with the jab of a needle or huff of an aerosol, help reduce post-stress trauma? Can, and should, we train people to be more resilient? Leading thinkers from around the world explore these and other questions about the science of human resiliency.
The World Science Festival gathers great minds in science and the arts to produce live and digital content that allows a broad general audience to engage with scientific discoveries. Our mission is to cultivate a general public informed by science, inspired by its wonder, convinced of its value, and prepared to engage with its implications for the future.

in a way, gov used to prepare us for disaster with the fire/bomb drills in school in the 60s, which probably affected our resiliency even though it never was tested.

The better of a person you want to be (for the angelic side of good). The more resiliency you need.

Psychological resilience is about how much you can take and keep moving forward, also known as coping.

"Adaptability. Resilience is a positive trajectory of adaptation after an initial disturbance -- a move back to a more positive state of well-being." one of MANY jewels of spoken word.

i understand what fran norris is saying. the loss of a child in a daycare fire would be an event, but it would be continuing and long term because your child is so emeshed in life itself. 'normal' wouldn't apply. i have experienced several unfortunate events but am aware they can't touch the loss of a child...

I also worry about the implications of the expectations for those who have grievances about the need for them to become positive in order to be seen as healthy.
