Wen Jia's backhand rubber used to be similar to that of Ito's backhand, and only less than three years ago, she switched her backhand pips rubber to the current smooth-surfaced rubber. So, in a way, Wen Jia has a better and deeper understanding on how to deal with and handle Ito's type of players.

sorry, but women are INCREDIBLE in table tennis at this time. they play much faster, although it doesnt matter that they use a little less body and power, like men. people have to acknowledge that, and appreciate it! :))) feeling bad for mima ito. i really enjoy watching her play. she almost had it at 7:15 with a big lead. 4:45 - 5:00 WOW

A close match. Wen Jia came back from so many match points down in the 6th. She can *Focus* and remain cool. Was getting better and better anticipating Ito's punches. And importantly, she made fewer and fewer unforced errors as the match went on. Adjusted brilliantly. Handled the pressure very well. An important win.

Wen Jia is actually a player that was prominent in the earlier part of the decade. Shes won a few world titles, not too many, but a few. I mostly recognize her from her controversy with Ai Fukuhara in the 2012 uae open (i think)
@urbanknight28086 жыл бұрын
This is not Wen Jia's first time on an international tournament quarter. Several years ago, she won the woman's single title on the German Open and was the single's finalist on Korean Open.

Ito deserves a long break after this tournament. Beating so many Chinese players in recent times definitely earns her a good rest to renew and refresh herself and to reflect on what happened here. Ito really rushed at the end of game 6, she wanted to win the points too quickly and played to the same position so many times. Too many shovel serves into the backhand, too much play into the backhand of Wen Jia in general. I hope she gets some well earned rest, she was extremely flustered in game 7 and playing more matches nonstop will only further the problem.

Beating Chinese players In a row? In July: Ito bet Gu Y. , and Hu L. , lost to He Z. In Aug.: ito lost to Wang Y. (Bulgarian), bet Zhang R., Liu G., lost to Wen. J. So, 4W 3L . By the way, all these Chinese players ranked 15+ in China's TT league (except for Gu Y. who ranked 12th).
@daejoons10126 жыл бұрын
@@btrdvalley320 perhaps in a row was bad wording, i meant in recent times. Still, beating any chinese player is an achievement imo

BTR DValley Yeah, In recent times She's had more wins, but if you consider the entirety of this year, She's lost to Wang Manyu twice and won the third encounter, beat Chen Xingtong, lost to Sun Yingsha , lost to Wang Yidi at Qatar Open too, and she beat Shiwen at the World Champs. That's all I can remember

Wen has understood that the only way to beat ultra aggressive Ito style is to... counterattack!... with much more insane ultra aggressive attack. At 4:48 the first hit to Ito gamestyle. Ito is better in this kind of play, and near the end of the game the score tell that Ito is the best actually. But Wen has touched something in Ito mindset and some extra error does the rest. Ito feel the unknow taste of fear. Ito has understood with this game that Chinese coach and players now know how to contain his style. At 7:48 is clear what the coach tell to Wen: 1 step back, counterattack, then one step ahead, and kill. Ito now is scared. The Ito's magic will disappear soon? We will see... TT is so deep, and Ito is so young...

That was painful to watch. Like Waldner losing to Ma Lin in...2001. I hope Mima learns from that, and I never see it happen again. But I don't know. And it might be in the nature of her game. She goes for her shots, and when she compromises and goes for control the Chinese smell blood. And gloaters, don't pretend that was a Chinese 'tactical masterclass'. 6 Match points, and 4-2 would have been a fair reflection of the game up to that point.
@btrdvalley3206 жыл бұрын
I thought Ito's close-table aggressive style is more like Ma Lin. Wen's play is more spinning and slower, more like European players.
