Kanak is technically as good as anyone. He always seems to play the right shot and is in position. I hope he continues to climb the rankings.

Very impressive by Kanak, especially that long rally where he kept blocking all of Filus attacks

Так играть ,как Филус, лучше вообще не играть! Канак просто молодец, не вращает ,а забивает и грамотно. Филус вернуть не может , через раз попадает.

@2.17 Now HE is saying he turned over the 'paddle' when he didn't. I wish they would get commentators who know what they are talking about. The term is 'bat' or 'racket', not 'paddle'. This is table tennis, not canoeing.

For your information, 'paddle' is also a legit way to call a table tennis bat, used in some parts of the world.

@@ktosomcosom19 Only in the US, where it isn't taken seriously as a sport. Paddle? Come on. Using that kind of terminology makes it sound like a kid's game.

Does the female announcer even know how to play? I ask because she said a lot of inaccurate things about choppers. @4:51 for instance, she said you don't have to go too hard on a receive against a chopper, which is entirely wrong. Sometimes, if you don't go hard against a chopper you lose the point. That's the whole point to being a chopper - you want to force the opponent to do things he doesn't want to do, like go hard on the receive, and then make a mistake. You also know as a chopper that the top spin players are by nature impatient and go hard as much as they can. But if he goes light, then you as the chopper punish him by going hard and earning the point. Also, at the very beginning, saying that usually choppers only attack from the forehand is also wrong. Again, the whole point is to keep the top spin player guessing. So, attacking w/ the BH is actually very common, especially at higher levels like here. And right before that she also implied that choppers don't normally twiddle the racket. Well, even at lower levels like mine, pips players twiddle the racket quite often. Again, they want to confuse you and keep you guessing. The best choppers often have top spin shots that are more powerful on both sides then top spinners. Just watch almost any game the recently retired South Korean chopper played, especially the one against Ma Long (almost beat him too). He's got a lot of BH kill shots and awesome FH loop-kills. He also chops on both sides. Full disclosure: I'm a low-rated top-spin player who has a lot of respect for choppers and pips players, and I hate playing pips players.

I see nothing wrong about her saying it is not necessary to go to hard in the receive against a chopper. Against an attacker of a high level, it is important to take your chances to attack and not give them out to the oponent by a too safe receive (in this case, the commentator surely had service receives in mind.) In case of defenders on a high level, they are not among ones looking to aggressively flick any ball you push back at them. They don't really twiddle that often at the high level; Filus is actually very unique player in the top level with such an ability to attack and defend on both wings. The example you have given, Joo Se-Hyuk, twiddled very rarely, and almost solely pushed the ball back even when having a good opportunity to kill th ball from backhand. And if he attacked from backhand, he would just do it using pips.

Twiddling is unusual for a defensive player? Is she kidding? The majority of long pip players twiddle to attack from the backhand wing. Short pip defenders often don't have to twiddle because short pips have good control when hitting. Again, commentators who don't seem to have a clue regarding the defensive game.

Yes, she is basically right. Twiddling is really not often seen among defenders. You may perhaps have a different experience from your area. It however, can only recall few who do. From the top level, I know only Filus and Manika Batra that base their game around it.

@@ktosomcosom19 I think you need to look at some games involving the top level defenders. They almost all twiddle, even though you don't notice it. Even short pip defenders twiddle to attack with the backhand. It is often not seen because of camera angle or distance of camera to player, but they all do it, whether they base their game around it or not. With long pips, it is an essential part of their game.
