As a relatively new TT fan since my retirement after 55 years of running a successful hairdressing business in London. I have rediscovered TT as my dad and brother were national players back in the day 50’s and early 60’s. I am in complete awe of the phenomenal standard these guys play at. I’ve been watching on KZbin for about a year now and just started playing once again. Ma Long is definitely the benchmark of an ultimate player. I’m loving the coverage and the emergence of non Chinese players challenging the crown - Hugo Calderado-Truls Möregårdh- Felix and Alexi Lebron all great but still perhaps a little way to go to match the likes of Ma long and some other Chinese players. This match shows the supremacy of King ML.🏓🏓🏓

It's understandable they wanted other players than Ma Long for the olympics. His performance against some of the Chinese national team was a bit unpredictable. But his performance against European players is much better than any other Chinese player at the moment. Fan Zhendong plays good against European players but not at the same level. The most noticeable other player was Xu Xin

Here after seeing interview with Ma Long saying he was inspired by Moregard's style for this tournament. I think I can see that in this match. Other Chinese players may be close to matching him in the conventional looping game but he can mimic Moregard's style and variety better than any of them can. Liang Jingkun may also specifically struggle a bit with that kind of variation.

The decision was not meant as disrespect toward Ma Long but long term thinking. Of course CNT has to think longterm, you can´t always rely on Ma Long, the Goat to secure you the Mens Single Gold. CNT main interest is to secure the Gold Medal for the Nation and not to increase the Legend of a single player. Ma Long is already the undisputed goat by a mile. CNT brought WCQ because they hoped that he can soldify as a go-to option for LA 2028. FZD was there as backup and we all now how damn important it was.

It was a points system, WCQ had by far the most points so his spot was safe. Ma Long actually was very close to replacing FZD, I think he just needed to win one of the contender events where he had an early exit.
