Why did they go to the slick this year? Was Yokohama pushing for it?

Safety pretty much. They've reached the limit of the semis. No pro class teams competed in the shootout last year - there was one with a blown engine and the other two had damage from tyre delaminations that meant they couldn't compete. Under suzuki's crash was also due to tyre delamination.
