I find in interesting how much time and effort you've put into such a oddball of an engine, its amazing what you've been able to get this platform to do.
@ElmerRacing Жыл бұрын
For optimum power/mass ratio at this power level with a four stroke engine, we think this has to be very close to the optimal layout. Electric and turbines don't stand a chance. Two strokes maybe. With some more hardcore design effort we could probably drop a further 25% off the mass also.

A couple of KZbin "experts" say there are secondary balance issues with inline 4 of this size. Is that a fact and did you do something to overcome that? Good luck, keep up yje great work.
@ElmerRacing Жыл бұрын
There are always imbalances in every engine. Just depends on how accurately you want to calculate the loads, and their locations. How acceptable the vibrations that result from that depend on the use case. One important thing to note that is often overlooked in "balance" discussions is the power output unevenness. If the forces resulting from balance design are much lower than the forces resulting from power output unevenness, you're not going to gain a lot by focusing on "balance".

@@weatheranddarkness Not so much for racing use where you're using high power most of the time. There can definitely be resonance issues though, this is something that always needs to be taken into account by the team building the car.

What a marvel of engineering. ❤ Is there any dyno info on it?
@ElmerRacing10 ай бұрын
Most data is from the rp968 teams half shaft torque sensors on track in actual driving conditions.
@OctavChelaru10 ай бұрын
@@ElmerRacing Thanks for the reply. I would imagine you might want to keep that sort of data private given the competitive nature of racing anyway. I'll have to be honest, my curiosity towards a dyno sheet stems from a deep curiosity as to how one of these engine would feel like in a drift car. Simulated, of course, but with the way budgets are going in the sport these days, maybe you guys will eventually get a few calls from drift teams, I could imagine that.

In a NA-setup, reving to 11k rpm, what's the output you can get out of the engine?

Uncharted rpm for the valvetrain, but 650-750hp range would be likely. 11k isn't anything super crazy though, most likely doable with custom cams and springs. (for short periods of time)

Yes. We design the head and block to work together. This allows good head gasket sealing. And isn't really possible if just designing the block or the head.

Why do you need a 4l engine when you can squeze 2k hp out of honda 2l in a smaller package
@ElmerRacing Жыл бұрын
Making the engine even smaller would reduce mass further! Problem is that you don't see many circuit racing 1000hp 2l engines with a good powerband. Still a ways to go to be able to get a 2l to 2000hp for circuit racing without making the whole package heavier and more complex than a single stage turbo 4 liter.
