In America, lunch meat usually just refers to standard slices of ham or turkey or chicken or what-have-you sliced up for sandwiches. When you get that stuff in a can, although they don't officially call themselves this unless they're the actual brand, it's usually called "Spam." Spam is an actual brand, but much like "Coke" the word sometimes just gets used generically to refer to similar products. Those tinned-up, preserved lunch-meat products are bleh to the extreme.

I once tried Spam, then bacon-flavored Spam. They both tasted really bland, but if you cook it and put seasoning on it, it's tolerable. My cat loved it. It also doesn't look anything like the luncheon meat he ate in the video. It just looks like a big, pink brick, and it doesn't have that yellow goo surrounding it.
@AgentTasmania10 жыл бұрын
Spam gets a bit of yellowy jelly around it and maybe bits of white fat if there's any empty volume around the meat in the can. If. Never even fractionally the space in that horror. I find spam plenty flavourful and nice. Sliced up, seared in a pan and in a sandwich. Mostly I like the light version because it's milder wheras the normal and baconised are a bit rich.

"Cold Cuts" here in Canada are basically any sliced Deli meat you typically put on sandwiches or buns. Salami, Summer Sausage, Sliced Turkey/Chicken breast, Black Forest Ham, Kielbasa, Pepperoni, Montreal Smoked Meat etc.
@thomasjenkins75068 жыл бұрын
it's the same in america.
@ShortFingeredShreder8 жыл бұрын
It's the same in America. However, products labeled "Luncheon Meat" are usually meat byproducts. Luncheon Meat is the proper name for cold cuts, but when most products are called that, they are usually... shit. I actually like Spam, but that generic version that Ashens tried in this video is truly awful.
@alexander-ue1vf8 жыл бұрын
+ShortFingeredShreder Spam is amazing when fried and put in a sandwich with some pineapple. Literally anything can be done to spam to make it leagues better than raw.
If there’s anything i’ve learned on my Ashens binge, is that he has a morbid fascination for catheter bags

You are right about what parts were used in the chicken. My eldest son is a production accountant for a more reputable chicken company, and tells of companies that take all of the chicken parts they refuse to use, and smash them all together to make small chicken loaves of canned fatty gooooness. SPAM came out with a chicken version of their mystery meat, and other companies are doing the same to compete.
