My 20 gallon and 10 gallon worm bin has made about 6 cubic feet of premium worm castings from a one man kitchen and recycled potting soil and and half a bale of peat. just harvested 3 cubic feet. Its good stuff.

I did the same using 2-30 gal grassroots living soil fabric pots. Amazed at the quantity and quality I can get at home. I do add some exotic goodies to the bin every now and then to boost the biological profile and nutrient density but it's relatively cheap since I'm doing it on a home scale.

I did the same, used a mortar tray. Now have 14 mortar trays full of castings and worms. Just feed them my left overs from my juicer. They seem to love carrot 🥕 as much as I do.

Great info, Thanks! Note: Yes in the "poop loop" when bacteria are consumed by predators the waste are realesed like soluble liquid organic fertilizer ready available for plants, no need more breakdown process ;)

I bought worms at Star because I didn't know about this company until now. I put them in the outdoor fridge because it got hot. They died and stunk to high heaven. And I bought a ton of worm gold castings because I didn't know about them. Now I do! Thanks!

Did you know worms are a invasive species?
@marta77inf7 ай бұрын
I doubt they are in the desert.
@lasvegaswormfarm7 ай бұрын
I could be wrong but I Believe that every species of composting worms that we have in North America is non-native. The cool thing about composting worms is that if there's no organic material for them to feed on they won't leave that area.

@@lasvegaswormfarmvery true...I was running 3 flow through bins and just using red wigglers...I finished working the bins and stopped feeding them and the worms left.

@@lasvegaswormfarm are you familiar with the totes grocery stores use with the interlacing lids? I'd guess they were 20 gallonish. I used 3 stacked inside one another. The bottom had 0 holes the middle had .25" holes and I had .375" holes in top bin. I was just using them to get rid of waste...I had no idea what I was going to get in return

I don't fertilize my garden. I use charles dowding method once a year apply 1-2 inches compost. I will never add worm castings due to the worms in my garden. Worm castings to me if you have a healthy soil worm castings are a waste of money.
@lasvegaswormfarm6 ай бұрын
I would agree, if you have established a good soil and have native worms there is no need to add any additional amendments, especially if you are using the chop n drop method. Dr. Clive Edwards from Ohio State said that 100-250 worm per sqyd was an indication of a healthy soil. For those like me that live here in Las Vegas, our native soil is dirt and has no organic material in it so adding things like compost and castings can help convert the dirt into something that can sustain life and over time those microorganisms can turn it into a nice soil.

It would help to actually show video inside the bins and the microscope slide so everyone could see. A lot of repetition watching someone talk. Need to watch 2×. Talking re the blender he says it was too fine...but then says the leaf dust was ideal...???The guy says he keeps lid on outside bin to keep out critters but then says his other outside bin he only covers when it gets cold. Huh? So that one can have critters? Tedious. Couldn't this have been like a half hr max?
