"Between a rock and why bother" is a perfect way to describe this feeling. Sure, you could say "No, YOU'RE the one making a big deal out of nothing!" to the people who don't understand/respect they/them/their pronouns, but it won't make them learn any faster and I won't make you feel any more validated. It's just a screaming match.

You’ve got a word for one, so there’s a word for all. The smallest things have become which side are you on? What if I don’t want something that applies to me? What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything, anything? You are fighting between a rock and why bother. We are floating between two ends that don’t matter. So many questions get asked. So many times when I don’t have the energy I’d like to correct and react. What if I’m not a part of the see and be seen? Neither nor, both and me, in between, in between. We are fighting between a rock and why bother. You are floating between two ends that don’t matter. What if I don’t want something that applies to me? What if there’s no better word than just not saying anything, anything? We are fighting between a rock and why bother. You are floating between two ends that don’t matter.

I keep listening to this and man is it good. I checked out some of your earlier stuff and the progress is flagrant. I really like the old one too but this is just really another level. Bass riff and tone= win, drums sound amazing, the voice is perfect, the guitar sounds amazing. I'm really glad to see a band that still pays attention to the fine details of rock music production. The mix is sick too. Can't wait to hear the album.

English isn't my first language, I wonder if someone can explain the lyric to me? Fighting between a rock and why bother? I know there's "between a rock and a hard place" but it doesn't seem to fit her upd: thanks everyone for suggesting interpretations, I was just super confused by the lack of any punctuation in the lyrics
@TheOldYeBard2 жыл бұрын
while there's likely a few interpretations, I read this as it's using "between a rock and a hard place" as an analogy, by substituting 'why bother?' - the meaning is effectively the same, caught between two inflexible realties - people that actively don't want to use chosen pronouns (the rock), and "why bother" those that even don't care / don't want to try (the hard place) - i.e. it's hard to make people care, fighting indifference/apathy and on the other end bigotry, just for a place to exist.
@Insidious_Mango Жыл бұрын
It basically about the experience of being non-binary
@teaartist6455 Жыл бұрын
To add to what TheOldYeBard said, it could also reference the difficulty of (continuously) correcting people and just resigning oneself to being misgendered constantly. Correcting people can be hard both because people may be actually transphobic and hurt you in response, but also because of plain old apathy, which in turn makes it easy to feel like there's not really a point to correcting people since it's never going to stick anyways.
