No green framed glasses this video so whatever can I write about ! I think the idea behind 'just get out' there is valid advice insofar as, no point spending big $$$ bucks to find out you hate it. Most wild campers aren't usually too far from their vehicles and can always bail out if the going gets tough, but it would be rather silly to go up into the hills/mountains without experience and/or proper kit. My idea is that you need to start with a shelter that is going to keep you dry first of all. You can get away with a cheap sleeping bag IF you make up the difference with good thermal underwear, woollen sweaters etc. You can buy a set of aluminium pots quite cheap and you could start out with a homemade cat stove and some fuel etc. I'm from an age, when tents were canvas, there were no sewn in ground sheets and certainly no inflatable air mattresses - we just got SOFT is all. 😉🤭🤷‍👍 Ps. like the black beard, like the hairstyle lots, but not so keen on the rainbow colours - no offence intended with these last comments, just my opinion and I KNOW you don't care what folk think. Enjoy.

@@RobertsBulgaria I forgot to bring my glasses so just had to hope everything was in focus as it was all blurred for me! I agree with everything you say except the sleeping bag (if using in winter)as no amount of underwear will keep you warm at minus temperatures if your bag is not up to the task. And yes I don't care what anyone thinks but keep the comments coming I do love people's opinion what ever they are. Thanks so much for your support

@@roncamping Don't forget to factor in that there are both 'hot and cold' sleepers, the latter will need a higher thermal rating. From experience, I can say that a thin lightweight bag can have its thermal rating increased with the use of such things as a 'silk liner' and/or a wool blanket. Most campers carry a quilted down jacket that squashes down really small in a pack, I just happen to have the same thing in a quilted onesie and matching booties as I detest cold feet. 95% of my kit is military surplus and not all of it is cheap and it is usually heavy too. I do possess an Army Arctic sleeping 'system' (I don't like that term), but I guess it is a system as it's made of 3 bags, but it would fill a large rucksack on its own so only really practicable for car camping type trips during winter. I like your channel because it is HONEST and I can see that you like your little comforts when out and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, but at the other end of the scale, there are those who like to give the impression that they're suffering, just wait until winter time when the Bushcraft/Survival genre will be full of thumbnails such as 'Solo Overnighter in my Y-Fronts, Minus 65 C.) I exaggerate for humour, but not by much. ps, tie a knot in your hanky, forgot your glasses, forgot your snacks, left the chair behind, didn't take the table..... Have a great Sunday. 😉👍

Love the hair Ron - Totally agree about gear and if it's possible to do it on the cheap I have a fairly extensive winter setup ( as this is when I started gathering my gear) and it cost roughly £200. I don't have multi season gear so I have to put up with using heavy cheap winter gear in the summer. My problem is I struggle to get out of the front door >.< . Would pitching your tent with the blade facing the field made it more stealthy? I realise this would not let you see what's going on in the field.

@@sparker68 yes the expense goes up even more for winter and summer equipment, I didn't even think to mention that it's a good point. I did wrestle with the idea of facing the tent that way because you are right about that but the whole.point of it all is the view and atmosphere so I decided to risk the tent the way I did it. @roncamping so have a go at toughening up, comfort is a killer, the bugs and slugs aren't so bad they just want to be friends and suck your blood haha, a scrim net over your face as you sleep keeps most of them away.
