Worse Power Plug Ever On eBay Amplifier. Check Power Before Plugging In

To my suprise this is how I found an electrical plug attached to an Amplifier.
How to Re-Wire and make safe this item I bought from eBay,
But this applies to any second hand electrical item bought anywhere.
Either from eBay, thrift stores, second hand shops, car boot sales etc
Any Tv's, Computers, Games Console, Heaters etc
All could be dangerous if wired wrongly like this bodge job
If in doubt consult a qualified electrician

Makes me think on how many plugs i must have fitted. Been fitting these things to audio items since about age 10. When i was 8 or 9 when my parents had the new central heating system fitted there was a new water pipe in my bedroom. I had a new secondhand record player which me and my mum bought from this local secondhand shop a shop which had many vintage players. I received my first serious electrocution from this player plugging it into my bedroom wall point whilst holding onto this pipe which stood about 3 inches from the power point. to me, it felt as if someone was strangling me whilst shaking my body. My dad opened up this lemco plug to find the 13 amp fuse had wire across it. Remember those durabrand rubber plugs where you had to feed the flex through the hole in the cover first when you would sit there in sheer frustration that you forgot to feed it through first, ah'ha'ah.... Very, very good advice Michael 👍. I remember being at college, back in the early 1980's learning how to do it properly on an Electrical Installation Course.We were shown some very Dodgy examples and videos of the potential consequences! I have always checked since then and Holly Molly, glad I do! Many people cut the( non- moulded on) plug off before selling, as they don't wish to take chances being sued. 😉 Jim 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙂

Rule number one, if it has a removeable plug (and not one that is moulded to the wire) it should be the very first think you check before going anywhere near the power. I know for a fact the very least you will find is loose screw terminals which need a tweak, let alone checking the wiring and correct fuse rating. As someone who does PAT testing that has been burned in to my brains for years.

To Right, Amazing just let one pass by and it ends up looking like this inside. I have had plenty with loose screws and wires just about making contact with the pins, but this takes the biscuit. Thought fleBay has a policy no plug with electrical items. If not should have unless PAT tested. Disaster waiting to happen in my books. Shocking in fact

hi to all beware of the bolt that holds the lid on i can come of when you are plug in and out of the socket a mate gave me a thing to fix of came to lid when i pulled the plug out i now check all plugs for this great video 's i am wait for CPU AMD 4 they go for silly money i know why some are gaming cpu bob's bit's

hi thwm teac reel to reel decks have poor sockets in the back the 2 pin no earth i do change them over iec ones with a earth my brother in law told me to take out all old socket as they are out of code same with the bbc cart players they have iec sockets in now it was alot of work file out to the right hole size i will say my mate buys alot of used gear you know the pat test alot don't get passed it because there's no earth to the body of the deck i allways earth in plug to body test i allway do just in case 240v wire hit's the body of the tape deck i had this in the very old reel to reel decks like the EMI btr 4 as it's all high volts AC

Hi Michael just wondered if you could give me a quick bit of info , i came across a Sansui 441 with no plug fitted and both wires appear to look the same other than a Kawasaki ind trace showing on one side of the twin mains lead . So my question is which side would you connect to a UK 3 pin plug ie: trace to live or neutral . I subscribe to your KZbin channel and really enjoy listening to your interesting reviews . Hi Rick thanks for the Sub. It does not really matter which way they go around on this unit. But saying that if you can pop the top off the unit and look at the 2 wires come into the unit. Mine has the top wire of the 2 connected to an unswitched socket then a white wire going to the main on off switch at the front, so I would be tempted to have this as the Live wire. hope that is clear enough to understand.
