John 4:24 New King James Version (NKJV) 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

I get it. As someone who leads worship in a southern Baptist church, I want us all to be more demonstrative in worship. However, as worship leaders, are we falling into a trap of feeling that we must look and act a certain way for our service to be effective/validated? How do we balance this? Just food for thought.

Hi Wesley, thanks for your insight - this is definitely something we all struggle with as worship leaders, and we value your perspective from the context of your own church! You've asked some great questions, and while there are many answers to this, one thought is that our outward posture is actually a response or an effect of our inward worship - when we worship inwardly, it naturally translates into the way we look on stage outwardly, and therefore enable the congregation to enter into worship a little more freely. That being said, this training session was from a practical perspective and meant to equip those who might not be used to being at the front of their church or leading a congregation in worship where it can be initially intimidating and difficult to express worship outwardly, but the intended overarching message is what Andrea touched on in the first few seconds, for our inward and outward experiences of worship to be aligned. Hopefully that helps!

it isn't a performance i encourage worship leaders to not make it about themselves at all, authentic worship to our god will usher in his presence

in reality as a worship leader, people are relying on them to lead them into worship

@@joshuaedo07 for sure that has truth to it i agree and disagree :) , i agree a worship leader should be leading people into a place they are already 100% and should be sowing into that gift to lead well, but i also believe a person who is not keen to worship is not going to be led into worship by anyone, in defiance; perhaps why so many skip worship and arrive for the word , worship is giving reverence to God, it's a giving of ourselves in praise to him, i believe there are many ways to worship outside of just music, thus we lead our own lives of worship to God first and foremost. Have a blessed one bro.

It's not about performance, but you don't want to do things that distract people. Some people have habits that are naturally distracting. It does actually draw attention to yourself. God isn't bothered, but people find it unhelpful. Humility says, "I want to serve these people well, and therefore I won't do these things if they get in the way of people connecting with God." It's possible to serve with excellence and be authentic at the same time.
