I've played several stringed instruments thru the years; I'm 68 mostly guitars and mandolin some banjo. Just started playing bass at my church about a year and half ago. I've had a few ahah moments in that time found your video very helpful, gave me a couple tips that'll be handy on Sundays thanks

The main purpose of a bass player is NOT to be a distraction. If a congregation is paying attention to your playing and not on worshiping, something is wrong. BASS is the foundation, not the doors, windows, attic, landscaping etc. Critical but not out in front of everything.

I agree but you’re statement can’t be used as an excuse to not become an accomplished player. Fills walks etc done properly can be anointed.

I would love to see some videos of you going in depth on a commonly played song and talking through your approach to it - any pedals/effects, the fills you do, etc... I know you have done some tutorial videos, but I'd love to see some in depth looks that talk more than the basic chords and patterns.

Tip six is good for beginner players, but can be limiting. You can outline the chord with chord tones and chromatic passing notes without being busy. As long as you’re locked in with the drummer you can add color without being distracting.
@WorshipBassTutorials5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. If you can do it without being distracting and always making sure to serve the song, then go for it! It's just a good rule of thumb 😎

I agree except for the keep it simple part. I mean it might sound a bit much if the guitarist is just strumming open chords but if he’s actually playing out, it’ll sound awesome. That overplaying baseline should be the standard in my opinion, it’s just way more interesting to me Also, Dat Pachbel tho

Locking into the kick is what is most important. Bass is just that. Not a banjo or lead guitar. Lots of bass playing in worship music is played on the hi hat not kick. Bass and drum!!!! Like pitcher and catcher. Foundation is key

If you are alternating between fingers and pick, where would you store your pick in the parts when you're playing with your fingers? There probably isn't enough time to put it in your pocket and fish it out again in the middle of a song. Is there anything to clip or affix a pick to the bass to temporarily store it - eg something that could go below the pickups or even attach to the one of the pickups?
@di9italdubster2 жыл бұрын
You can slide your pick into the pick guard above the pickups. That's where I keep it. Personally, I only use a pick on the more upbeat songs, and for the most part, I use my fingers. That's just me, though.

Hey! Jesus loves you! He died for your sins on the cross and rose again 3 days later! All you need to do to accept Gods gift is believe in him and what he did, And you need to repent(turn from sin and follow Jesus) and ask him for forgiveness in prayer. And remember that Jesus is God! He is three in one, the father, the son, and the Holy Spirit! Have a good day!:)
