75% of scapula breaks are from high-speed car collisions, and Miguel managed to break it himself on his road bike.
Welcome to Episode 1 of a new series that we've been planning to launch-deep dives into Miguel's training as he gears up for his second year of racing as a pro triathlete. The series pilot is a little different than what we had in mind...Miguel added a fractured scapula, broken collarbone, and two minimally displaced ribs to the show to make it that much spicier (you're welcome). All jokes aside, wear your helmet and stay upright, people. We're not sure where this series of videos will take us, but come along for the ride. 70.3 Oceanside is in 16 weeks.

Miguel - so sorry to see this. I broke my collarbone TWICE last year (Feb and June) both negligent car drivers. I managed to haul myself to Lahti to 'compete'. Funnily found myself sitting behind Jenna and your parents in the sports stadium, but decided to not bother her with a hello. Just want to say you guys are inspirations, and im hoping for a more productive 2024 trai ing-wise!

Imho dont rush the recovery and dont get surgery unless its absolutely necessary. It may take a few more months to get back in races, but you'll be happier when you are 50. May I suggest.. Make a clean break from training for 6 months and take some college courses. Get a head start on your post Triathlon life.

I hope you heal quickly. I had a bike accident earlier this year while training for Wisconsin 70.3 and fractured my pelvis. I thought I was following Dr orders but wound up overdoing things and my Kip joint is still giving me problems and I’m not able to run yet. Recovery is hard. Don’t overdo it. Good luck!

Did the same thing at Challange Almere in September broke collarbone, shoulder, 4ribs, the wrist and punctured time lung. Get the surgery if the consultant advises. It’s worth it. 3weeks later I was training again and in the pool swimming lengths. Now 8 or 10weeks later I’m feeling ready to Race. Just accept the time off and tackle that job you’ve been putting off all year.

Hey I hope your surgery went well. I had the same surgery on my clavicle as you and also have I nice plate inside me as well. Surgeon told me that after I had finally healed I could have the plate removed. I asked him if it doesn’t feel like it’s a problem could it help to leave it in if it would give me added protection in the event I ever had another crash? He said it probably would help. So I did! I feel a little better knowing I’ve got a little added protection! Just a thought. Get well soon Miguel. Love following the both of you.

Good Luck with your recovery, I had a similar crash in 2021 and was operated on twice. After the first operation they took the plate out to soon and the collarbone broke again just from lifting up my bike. By the way I was 60 years the first time I broke my collarbone

we are now "brothers" Miguel...i had the same kind of injuries,my scatula got only slightly affected,if in your case it got a hit and now broken, that will mean your 2024 sesson is gone like the wind...when in the hospital in italy Doctors told me that 2-3 months to ride indoors, outdoors maybe 6 months, because I did not need surgery so the bones will have to heal with time, now after 3 months i zwift without problems but I must have the zwift trainer difficulty at 50%...at 100% my right shoulder can't take yet the pressure, advise you to start taken daily whey protein shakes to help the bones heal quicker, whey protein has helped me a lot,i stopped all meds and got on the shakes, now 95% mobility as before the crash, only can't lift my right arm straight upwards, sideways no problem, the injuries on the collarbone and scatula might affect your mobility for all your life... that's what the traumatologist MD told me...i can feel that i have much less strength on my right shoulder and arm than before...just keep Figthing the Future Miguel !!!

Mikey, Mikey, mikey, simply you are an amateur, amateur, amateur!! Laking FOCUS & concentrsation caused your fall and injury! So clasic of a discriptor on crashes occur statistically towards to end of a ride or journey because the typicsal response is you loose focus and concentration because you are towards the end! Hence you are a Royal amateur!!!!! Your justifying your lack of concentration and focus! Denile is not just a name of a river in eygpt!!!!!!! Lets work on your subscribers, lts strive to get 30k by March 15! What say you? GG! Mikey!!
