We often expect bowling pro's on the PBA Tour to make every single shot. When a pro misses a single pin for example, it can certainly come as a huge surprise. However, pressure can do strange things to even the best bowlers.
In this video we take a look at some of the biggest bowling misses by well known PBA pro's.
00:00 Intro
00:57 Mika Koivuniemi
02:12 Del Ballard JR
03:05 Chris Barnes
03:55 Sean Rash

Mika's miss cost him so much prize money...but everyone loves Barnes 5-7-10 pancake at the Weber Cup.

Mika's was the worst. You make a 10 pin 95/100 times for a pro his caliber. And it was for a big major, and his name is Major Mika. Brutal loss. Rash also had some horrendous spare shooting in the recent doubles title match w/Ogle vs. Packy/Hupe. His spare misses were the difference there too.

Don Genalo in '82 or so left a greek church in the 10th frame, and needed something like 2 pins to win the tournament. He miscalculated the score, threw it in the gutter thinking he had won the match, and ended up losing by a pin

Don Genalo thought he had already lost the match by leaving the Greek Church. He purposely threw the gutter ball as a show of frustration, not realizing that picking up 3 pins on the spare attempt would have given him the win.

I remember that so well when Del Ballard Jr. missed it & threw it into the channel & handed the title to Pete Weber. Took off his arm wrist with so much pity back in 1991. If Del haven’t moved to the left within 2 boards to the left, this wouldn’t happen. Nope. But Pete won by surprise.

Nothing beats the infamous Ballard Ball incident! How about Don Genalo back in 1983. Threw away a tournament after he got a 5 count (Greek Church) and thought he had lost the match and wound up handing a title to Jimmie Pritts. And Mark Fahy the very next year in Tucson getting only 5 on a fill ball when he needed 7, enabling Ron Palombi to strike out in the 10th to win!!!

I used to miss the 10 pin all the time. I gradually worked my way up to a 16 pound ball - this took me about 3 years of league bowling. Then I realized I could use my 13 pound ball for single pin spares. I could throw it flat and straight and I got to the point where I could make the 10 pin with my spare ball at least 80% of the time.

There’s something seriously wrong with the oiling, ball technology, or both when a high revving ball leaves a 5-7-10. Traditionally, only a slow and straight 6-lb bowling ball would rightfully leave.

2004 Earl Anthony Classic, Lonnie Waliczek up 28 pins in the 8th. WRW JR strikes out 9th and 10th to force LW to mark in the 10th. He leaves a 1-2-4-6-10 washout and misses. He lost by 6 pins. It should have been his 3rd PBA title, instead his career spirals downward and he never wins again and struggles badly on tour next 10 years.

@@BucksCorner101 In that situation, you can't clean the back end without burning the little oil you have left. Sure, I'm not a pro, but conditions that force me inside 5th arrow yield much poorer carry and a meager pocket hit percentage, unless it's so dry outside that you can get it outside 12 and it gets back. There's a match with Cameron Weier vs. a house bowler on that sort of condition that illustrates the struggles

I agree with you there. Fortunately, there is always a route to go around or get to the pocket. Even if it may not be the best scenario, these conditions can still produce high scores if you know what to look for.
