The "Who Am I" song from the soundtrack and the scene of the game in which it is played (the car scene where you are driving through New York in Chaos) are the best parts of this game. You can see what the developer's were going for. Honestly, if they had a couple more years to develop it and maybe relax on having too many "cool" gameplay mechanics plus a better story, it could have been a super-hit I feel. Maybe not. It was the first game I played for my Halloween tradition of playing scary games back in High School on the 360. I have some good memories of the game, for the most part...once the game reached the infamous Central Park open world part, that is where I stopped playing. Glad I did as the end is not worth it. (Watch the ending for a laugh)

This game ate so many marbles that when it farted while wearing shorts, all the neighbors heard the breaking glass sounds. That means it sucked, very noticeably and spectacularly so. The one good thing about it was that I learned never to eat more marbles than you can comfortably fit in your small intestine, and when eating marbles as an amateur, avoid the big ones and go slow. Now I am a marble madness player, IRL I use the trackball to play like a pro. Trackball is an app that remembers how many marbles I have eaten vs. the number I have excreted. This is a pro tip, as all Marble Madness pros use a trackball. How would a d pad help me count marbles? I had no idea the beginning of the game was us getting an exorcism. I would have reviewed it higher by 2%. The great 'spreading fire' mechanics earned it 10%, so in total, the game was 13% good. Good job Edward Carnby. Now go run into the fire after eating a whole bowl of marbles. I want to see how the Havok physics handles THAT.

I think most of the positive reviews came from 2008 being a completely different time in Survival Horror. It was probably a breath of smokey ashy air for some.

@sonicsean345 ай бұрын
Always cathartic to see others experience the suffering of this game hehe. This was the game that made me stop caring about collector editions. I got the Xbox 360 edition and suffered so much. It looks weird and controls horrendously. Heck, the whole era of gaming could be characterised as devs playing with new toys available to them on Xbox 360/PS3 they had no idea how to use and then used them in the worst possible ways from graphics tech to gameplay mechanics the games of that time have aged worse for me than PS2 era games. It’s jarring when I see full franchise retrospective videos cos the PS3/360 era games somehow take me out of it even when PS2 games are being shown in their native res they somehow look better cos they just nailed everything they attempted on those but flubbed in the HD games (seriously compare ps2 silent hill games to Xbox 369 silent hill games)

The shame is that this was a good series once. 1 was a survival horror pioneer and masterpiece that directly inspired Resident Evil, 2 and 3 were frustrating but intriguing experiments with the style, and 4 was competent but sadly imitated it’s more popular descendants. This (5) and 6 (which could also be on this show) are awful. I thought 6 would kill the franchise off but 7 has just been announced, so fingers crossed.

Alone in the Dark had lots of cool, ambitious ideas, cramming in so many that perhaps they didn't have enough time and resources to completely make sense of it all, or bring things up to sufficient quality. I would say that it's much further from being a bad game than a good one, and I liked it for its experimental attitude and ambition. It's at the very least an interesting game. Also the soundtrack was really good. *99%* *- It's not perfect* Eden Games also made Test Drive Unlimited in 2006, which turned out to be far ahead of its time, offering a large open world to cruise around in with other nearby players automatically populating the world, listening to your own playlist, lots of years before Forza Horizon. It also had weird ambitions with its rich douchebag lifestyle theme, which was perhaps a less successful direction.
@Siresly4 жыл бұрын
Its "realistic" and "intuitive" physics-and-simulation-based approach to puzzle solving was neat. Stuff like, oh no a locked door, guess I have to find a key? No, just bash the fucking door in with a fire extinguisher. And also the fire extinguisher works and you can put out fires with it. Also you can put things on fire. Or when you're trying to get out of the parking garage and you find something to break a car window with, unlock it, get in and search through it looking for the keys, using this whole gameplay system they've made specifically just for looking through and interacting with car interiors. Unfortunately you're then asked to drive the car, which is probably the worst part of the whole game. It looks like total ass even in this supposedly improved PS3 version. I agree with the gist of what Brad is saying, that Alone in the Dark deserves some kudos for thinking outside the box and doing weird and/or cool stuff. But this really isn't a 95% game. It's not perfect at all, it's a 99%.
