I've been playing since I was ten (I'm 54 now) and that reaction to a snap hook was priceless, I feel your pain brother! With that regimen, you can't help but improve rapidly, trust the process and take care of your body. I imagine fatigue is going to lead to bad shots until you get used to the workout.

I've never been great at golf, but when the pro at the driving range changed my swing during my lessons it was very awkward at first and my game was shocking. But after about 2 weeks I felt things were really starting to settle and feel nice. Within a month everything was natural and I got down to 13 handicap and played to that handicap with ease. Great content as usual, Matt. 👍🇬🇧

Matt any changes to what you’ve been doing for as many years as you’ve been doing it are bound to make you feel akward. Don’t stress brother it’s all good. Keep at it and it’ll clean up the more natural it becomes to have your new swing. It seems as you get into the habit of new swings the better they become. Been watching your drop 5 shots videos I legit have them downloaded and man the drills and the lessons I’m getting from you are helping me big time. I went from a 34 handicap to a 23 in about 6 months. You got this brother I know you do. I’m stoked to follow your going pro journey man. Continue being the bad ass you are.

Matt, you have helped so many people! It will come in time. I have no doubt you have what it takes to make it!!! This is an extremely interesting video series. Being an less than average golfer I have learned a lot from you. Your most relatable video yet. The first month after taking lessons to fix my swing, were down right depressing. Makes you question why you are even doing it. But similarly to when I was just starting, there would be those few shots a round where you manage to execute all the changes as intended, and you see a glimmer of hope. I can't wait to see when everything starts clicking for you considering how good you were already. Going to be sick.
@nicolasgauvin49502 жыл бұрын
When implementing swing change, it is so easy to loose the timing... for me it has a lot to do with disconnecting my upper and lower body because i am concentrating on a swing path or face orientation as opposed to a fluid balanced stance... i really appreciated your positive attitude and i am confident this will pull you through this objective of yours. Thanks for sharing transparently with us.
@ryno59042 жыл бұрын
Doing swing changes myself right now. Bought a net so I can get tons of practice at home. Seems so easy. Do lots of drills, smooth contact. Get to the golf course and can't hit the ball worth a damn. So frustrating. It seems to take about 8-10 holes of struggling and then I settle down and play decent at the end. It is crazy hard to change your swing. Hang in there. Keep working. Do the drills, bang the ball. It will all click one day.

I played the qualifier for the British Seniors Open a few years back. Biggest seniors tournament in the world. I was an amateur and got to the qualifier based on handicap. Needless to say I didnt make it through, it was a very humbling experience, but so glad I gave it a bash. I see you, a normally very confident and laid back golfer, putting himself under pressure, and making substantial swing changes. IMO you'll do far better and enjoy yourself more by just going back to what you normally do, enjoying the moment and challenge, and looking to it as an positive life experience. As for practise, 90% on driving, 10% on anything else. If you can stick the ball on the fairway every hole your demeanour and confidence will grow, and you'll give yourself scoring opportunities. Good luck! I look forward to watching the series, and you may just surprise yourself, I have a feeling that you will.

I am not sure of you have such things local to you but over here we have 'Pitch and Putt' and Par 3 courses often at clubs with good academies as a way of teaching youngsters the game. I find if you get the chance it is well worth playing these courses as approach (not tee) shots as the holes range from ~70 yards up to 200 yards and is a great way of honing your approach play.

I'm feelin' ya Matt! It's been my goal for the past 12 months to be selected for our club Pennant's team and I made it. However, my coach changed my grip a couple of weeks ago, now my game, and my confidence have all but vaporised. To counter that loss of confidence, when I practice or play comp, I refer to my memory for the best shots I've hit in similar situations, visualise the shot from behind the ball, put a few practice swings on it and "feel" the emotions that I remember having at the time I hit the shot. Then, knowing I've done it before, I commit to the shot and execute. I went into the comp on Saturday low on confidence but still shot 6 over off the stick (7 handicap) so psychologically, I know I can play good golf and therefore, I can improve further. Now I look forward to getting back into the game and challenging myself ..... can't wait for the matchplay to start!! Best wishes to you and a speedy recovery in your confidence.

When you've been successful, it is really hard to take a step back. I remember when you were the Club Champion at your club is Southern California. Now you have set your sites higher and have to make swing changes to get there. Hogan thought it took 2 years to do that. Tiger says it takes a full year. You're in good company. Keep it up!
