Almost every country has subdivisions it makes no sense to say that for a non-amercian not knowing American states is the same as not knowing countries

3:13 Well, first of all, there's history, in which Europe has indeed been arround a lot longer, but I'd say it has more to do with population. I mean the average population for a state is 5,7 million people. I don't know all countries with 5,7 million people or less. Also, states are significantly less important even if they are way bigger (and if they had the same population as a normal country which many usa states don't). Most Americans (and Europeans) wouldn't know Henan even though it's a province with more than double the population of california (biggest state in the USA) and a significantly longer history. I live in a province with roughly the population of Hawaii, but I'm pretty sure most Americans would not be capable of pointing where East Flanders is. Even though Flanders is 1200 years old and it was an incredibly rich area of the medieval western world whilst America wasn't even discovered.
