Thank you so much for this video. I just heard the term hydrolized soy sauce and came looking for answers. I really appreciate you taking the time to put this information out there in an easy to digest way! 💛

Yes, it's disappointing news (recently learned it too). I'm about to watch the Netflix doc about the commercial food industry (Poisoned) and I'm scared that I'll never be able to buy food again 😭. We try to buy packed foods with the least number of ingredients but other than that, what can we do 🤷♀️ I mean, I will try to eventually get around to make attempts at DIY soy sauce, doenjang and gochujang, but then what about all the other stuff. Hopefully with more consumer awareness, companies will improve their processes (here's to hoping!) but I'm not holding my breath because business is all about $$$ profits above everything else and... and... I'm a realist at heart 🤣

Thank you for saying so 🙌 You made my day 🥰 I myself learned all this recently and was a bit shocked. I want to make the information more accessible so more people know. And that maybe, just maybe (fingers crossed) these big food companies will notice that consumers don't care for ultra processed foods and create better quality products!

🤗 I'm glad you found it helpful! I'm not against processed foods as a whole (can we even get away from it completely unless we're homesteading and eating at home 100% of the time?!). I know and accept it about my personal kryptonite- Cheetos and Doritos- but in my soy sauce? No thanks.

It says the Sempio 501 and 701 contain Yeast Extract which is code word for MSG

Yep, you got it. It may also be called "Natural Flavor". Other everyday foods that commonly contain Yeast Extract/Natural Flavor? Some canned soups, frozen burgers, yogurt, orange juice (!)... honestly we eat a lot of it :/ It's the price to pay for cheap mass food production? It's a bummer for sure.

I'm honestly feeling really conflicted going grocery shopping now. This all started as basic research for a blog article, but now my eyes have been opened - because guess what's in that ubiquitous Kraft salad dressing? Cheap oil, cheap sugar, high sodium, colouring, additives, preservatives. Yeah, so. It's a minefield out there. At the same time, as a broke student/person just wanting to make yummy food: I've consumed Sempio Jin Soy Sauce since I was a kid and am living to tell the tale. This is just so you make the best informed decision if you can afford it (products made healthfully, more naturally are unfortunately always more expensive). I mean, Whole Foods made a whole business out of it, so I figure, there are people that want to know.
