Unfortunately, although there are lots of fantastic levels and stages in video games, there are also a fair few awful ones.
WARNING: Absolutely awful sound plagues this video, keep that mute button on stand-by.
Taz-Mania on Game Gear was a damn terrible game for one I declared as my favourite game of all time before even playing it as a kid. I couldn't even beat the first level at the time, which lead me to cover it in Worst Levels Ever # 8 back in 2014. Well, lately, I've become curious to see what else this sorry excuse for a game has on offer and decided to play the rest of it and see if it gets any worse...
See the first level of the game covered in Worst Levels Ever # 8: • Worst Levels Ever # 8

As a kid (28 now) I won this game way to many times, to the point I was trying to beat it as fast as possible, memorized the best paths, used jump spin to skip level segments... watching this video I realized I was doing speedruns without even knowing the word meaning/existence at the time. I should also say that I'm always been weird with handheld games, unless there's voice acting (or is a rhythm game) I always turn the volume down to 0, so yeah this horrible music never bothered me or my family.

The worst level I ever played in a game that actually tried to be a game (Action 52 is not a real game nor is shovelware) was in Looney Tunes Collector Alert! at least in the US version of the rom. There's a Secret level known as the corn maze where you walk on the grass walls, wander around aimlessly, collect yellow dynamite, and fail to win because the post game was unfinished (in the US version only).

However, the European rom and other regions do not have the glitchy corn maze nor does it's counter part Martian Strikes Back which was released shortly after. I actually bought the game twice when I was a kid just to see if it wasn't something wrong with the cartridge and nope the glitchy corn maze was still in Alert!.

Listening to the Genesis version's music (which also can be very annoying), I realize how they screwed up the music so badly. The Genesis has sixteen sound channels. Usually eight are used for music via FM Synth, two for samples, one for noise or modulation, and the remaining five are the sound effects. Since the Game Gear only has four sound channels they cut out six of the music channels leaving only the counter-melody and bass track. Which is why the music sounds like crap, the Game Gear can't emulate the FM Synth bass and the counter-melody -- already missing tons of notes because it's not the core melody -- is further restricted when it's channel is used for sound effects. You gotta really screw up and cut corners to be that bad.

I thought the Genesis had 6 FM with one channel able to play samples, 3 square oscillators, and a noise channel. You also have the option to split FM3 into it's individual oscillators. I've only used Deflemask so I don't know what else you can do with the system.

This game looks like it took the worst levels of the Genesis version and added things to make them even worse. Then made even more terrible levels for the second cake layer to fill it out. Finally they iced it with one of the worst soundtracks I ever heard. I actually did want to mute the video before you even brought it up at 0:57. But thought: "Ehhh, it can't get worse, can it?" The plot of the Genesis version of Taz-Mania (which I've heard is much better than this pile of shit) is that Taz's dad tells him and his siblings a story about giant prehistoric seabirds that used to roam Tasmania, and that they laid huge eggs that could feed a family of tasmanian devils for more than a year. He also mentions that there are legends of a lost valley where the birds still nest, causing Taz to get excited about the prospect of eating one of their giant eggs and to promptly search for the lost valley. That would explain why this game abruptly ends after you get the egg.

I am incredulous this game's cacophony sound design was on the fucking Game Gear. I swear, I assumed this was a crappy DOS game, or on some old-school gaming computer from across the pond. Yeesh.

I think the "boss" music is supposed to be a train whistle or something. WHY they decided to go that route though is anyone's guess.

You could interrogate someone with a pair of headphones and the "music" at 7:27. Granted, you could do that with *all* of the music in this game, but the yeti "theme" would be simultaneously more efficient and more sadistic. The big scary laser cutter is now obsolete, folks. Unless you have standards. Which I don't hold against you-uh...in fact, scratch the whole "obsolete" remark. Only the evilest evils would use this new method.

So hey, Whoisthisgit, have you ever heard of Library of Ruina? It's a turn based deck builder rpg, but it's a bit different than some, starting off the game is a bit complicated, but it's a good game, some beautiful music, and the difficulty curve is vertical! Something I'm sure you would love to see yourself.

Either the music glitched out during compression or they outright used the wrong instruments

It's odd how many different games Taz has gotten when he's usually merely a dim-witted nemesis for Bugs Bunny. Clearly, many of them suffer from the licensing curse. I used to think the worst boss battle theme was either the fortress boss theme in Mega Man 1 or the one from the Spider-Man '94 game, which was nothing but a mix of the 'villain laughing' sound effect at various pitches with the occasional guitar thrum thrown in, but it's still miles better than this.

I had this game and beat it, but much like our host I had trouble on Stage 1 as well. This game sums up that one gag from The Fairly Oddparents. It was in the manual? Dagnabbit nobody ever reads the manual! No seriously, fighting the Abominable Snowman to the stage just after it was explained in the blinking instruction booklet. But even if you read it the explanations weren't exactly clear for the "first boss fight"

Taz-Mania on Game Gear is probably where the composer for Crazybus (the bootleg Sega Genesis game, not the Arthur song) got his start.

I'd describe the "music" in this game as a Rorschach test for the ears. Seriously, the only game with worse sound than this I've heard is CrazyBus and that was technically a techdemo.

The music in this game is bad enough to make most unlicensed NES bootlegs blush. 15:57 No music credit given either, composed by "Alan Smithee" presumably.

Why does one of the music tracks sound like the Emergency Alert System frequency? I don't think it would be safe to play the video with the sound turned on in a public setting, as someone might mistake it for an actual EAS alert of some kind! I like it less than what you deem the "worst music track in the game."

they should have NEVER made you take damage from the air spin when it's the only real attack and is vital to completing levels. that is LUDICROUS game design.
