Inconsistent content types, some inconsistent ideology, channel name change, very long live-streams with A LOT of chat interaction being one of the I think 2 scheduled and regular uploads making the content audience narrowed so finely if you are not a member or deeply invested subscriber; you cannot participate. I could go on but I really like Jen and trust her probably more than anyone else on this platform I have the answer to this as I have asked myself the same thing and looked into feedback combined with my personal critique. More best and worst - reviews- countdowns etc. and multiple times a week would give her double the subs I swear. But, Jen is more a journalist and does deep dive work so well. Plus has a family she prioritizes. I live for all that so I’m here always but I wish I got more of her like others too.

My skin is older (63), very dry, and yes, slightly wrinkled. When I genuinely dislike a product, I always think, "Oh, it's just my ratty ol' skin." For that reason, I'm always reluctant to name product fails. But it can't *always* be me... can it?!

absolutely. sometimes it just is a matter of preference and products just working better on some people and their skin types. but some products are just poorly formulated, bad batches happen etc.

One of the things is that skin can be several textures at once. Combination doesn't come close. The Skin Multiverse is more like it! Hi from a 63 sister!

Oh, how I regret it now! So some of my skin is smooth and really young-looking, some of it looks like it belongs on an old piece of fruit. LOL!

I think mascara is the most subjective makeup product. It all depends on your lashes. The first drugstore eyeshadow I really liked was the Wet n Wild Icon trios. So good.

So true. I have a preference for a certain kind of wand, for length and separation over volume, and I really have trouble finding products that last without flaking off during the day. I know other people have different goals, different struggles, etc.

I feel the way you do about #1, about the elf camo cc foundation. It is literally the cakeiest thing I’ve ever put on my face. It literally was like a mud mask consistency even when I used the smallest amount. Everyone under the sun loved it, and you couldn’t pay me to wear it.

@@AzDesertFoxx The concealer is odd because there are two versions of it. The camo one and the hydrating one. The first is incredibly for spot coverage. As long as I blended it right away, it made the spots disappear. The hydrating one is great for covering bigger areas. It's still a lot of coverage in a small amount, but not nearly as dry.

Melissa, I couldn’t agree more! The Elf camo cc skin tint/foundation looked absolutely terrible on me! It was so heavy, it showed wrinkles and texture I didn’t even know I had! I know a lot of people love it but it was a huge disappointment for me.

Yes! I wanted to love the elf camo cc foundation because everyone loves the it one but they don’t have a shade that nearly matches me and elf had a good match. So cakey 😭😭😭

We need Jen to get to 300k! I always enjoy hearing why someone likes/ dislikes a product. Texture and fragrance are deciding factors for as a neurodivergent person.

My worst of the year is everything I've purchased from Colourpop. Not only is their consistency all over the map, I'm just fed up having to deal with their customer service. Plenty of brands are able to get me the items I actually ordered and have them arrive intact. I also wasn't a fan of the About Face Cherry Pick Lip Color Butter which feels like liquified Smucker's Jelly on the lips. I also had a reaction to a lipstick I bought that looked weird when it arrived which was definitely my least favorite makeup moment of the year.

I feel the same way about colourpop 😒 my daughter wanted a specific product, I ordered it and it came completely empty... the consistency & the customer service is terrible 😑 despite the affordable price point, I won't purchase from them anymore

You really do suit a cool toned makeup look so well! Cutting between you in the grey sweater and then holding the Catrice palette at the beginning of the video really highlights to me how awesome you look with the blues and purples and cool pinks on the eye and how much you don’t need warm blushes. Id love to see you getting into the Korean cool toned makeup products that are trendy in K-Beauty.

I don't understand why ANY company has dusty, bad powders. It's 2023, almost 24. Do all of them have beta testers? They definitely don't read the room with color stories or collabs, that's almost all of them 😢

Jen, I know I often feel like I’m on the outside of your target audience or your community, or maybe even like you may not like what I have to say. It’s probably more about my personal (neurodivergent) issues, but we are also not similar in other ways. Yet I have so much respect and admiration for how you do this, and your messages always resonate with me. I know you’re intelligent, dedicated, sincere, and have integrity. I don’t follow a lot of people in the makeup space because I have huge trust issues. But I trust your work, even if I know that it may not mean that your recommendations are right for me - my skin type, my skin concerns, my personal preferences, etc. So, I’m glad to see you succeed and wish you even more success in 2024!

I am so sad to hear you dislike the Atomic Lip Laquer that much, I love it! I must admtit it's a very tricky product (you need to have your lips fully dry, stay with your mouth open almost a minute if you want optimal setting...) and your reasons are very valid, it is true that the film can be a bit weird, but to me it's 100% worth it. One lip product that really disappointed me texture and setting-wise was the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Blur...the colours are beautiful but they don't set and basically smear all over your face. Lovely video 🤩

I know a lot of people like the Tower 28 tubing mascara, but it didn't work for me. I found it flakey, and it clumped in my lashes. Love ya, Jen, and I'm hoping you hit 300,000 soon!

Ohhhh Jen, I think 🤔 I blocked out buying and using the Benefit Hello Happy powder foundation because there was nothing about that powder foundation that made me HAPPY! It was awful same with the Elf camo cc cream foundation. It was so heavy and showed texture and wrinkles that I didn’t even know I had! I know it’s a favorite for a lot of people but not for me. One of the worst products I used this year was the Freck contour stick. Another product that wasn’t bad looking but went rancid after maybe a month was the new Kosas talc free bronzer! I love the glowy finish and color but I swear after a month it went completely rancid the smell was awful so I had to throw it away. Jen, you will get to 300,000 subscribers in no time ☺️❤️ Side note….If you or anyone is looking for an amazing freckle pen get the one Rudi Berry created! It’s the best faux freckle pen I’ve ever used and I’ve used so many. The color is perfect, the way the pen is shaped and designed it makes it so easy to apply and just a tap tap and it looks so pretty 😍

The bobbi brown tint is totally my kind of product. Super light coverage with a healthy glow but agree the fragrance is too strong. I put a bit of fix plus over it and that tends to settle it down enough to wear

I appreciate hearing about what did not work for you. My biggest fail was the Glossier liquid lipstick. I got a bright red shade. Half an hour into work, my friend told me I had red lipstick all over my face! I had only drank water since I applied it. Very comfortable formula, but the longevity was non-existent.

Worst product I’ve used this year was the new rimmel foundation that everyone was going nuts for (the red one). I used it once and had a crazy allergic reaction to it and it broke me out so bad. I’ve used rimmel before, even the older version of this foundation and never reacted like this. No idea what they’ve done to it but it was bad.

I didn't have any absolute disasters this year but I regret getting the KVD tubing mascara. It is awesome but not the wand shape I like. What's ironic is that I chose this wand to get bigger, dramatic lashes but then I learned I don't really like them on me lol. And it wasn't cheap!

My worst I tried this year was the new NARS light reflecting eye brightening concealer (the cream in the jar). I love their radiant creamy concealer. The new light reflecting? Sheer coverage, not buildable, not any more illuminating than the radiant creamy concealer, and even when “baked” causes my mascara to smudge onto my under eyes horribly. Heart breaking. Only NARS product I’ve ever tried that was bad. The rest have all been good to holy grail status. Honestly don’t know what their R&D folks were thinking.

My biggest fail was the Rose Inc skin enhance luminos something serum. The formula was soooo dry and hard to even get on my face. But I have more of a dryer skin type so maybe it’s perfect for someone with an oilier skin. I hope you have a lovely Christmas 🎄 🎅.

I HATE the Maybelline concealer, I think in English is "age eraser" maybe?? The one that went viral. It's useless on me, nothing creases on me, that one does, and it covers NOTHING. I was so disappointed I couldn't believe in my own feedback 😂 I don't know what I do wrong, it's the first time I have this experience with a concealer..

NYX has a longlasting lipstick that I love. Lots of people don't, but I find that after you apply the topcoat, then blot, I don't feel it at all. I loved how long lipsense lasted, but did not like the feel either. The trick with NYX is apply the color coat, blot, apply top coat, purse lips together to make sure you got all the corners with the top coat, then blot. It lasts all day, through everything.

I also foynd the Milani gilded shadows to be lackluster. I was excited to have found a light but versatile palette to bring to Hawaii. Even with primer it did not stay in for more than a few hours. And it wore off in an awkward way. I had experienced other shadows to remain on me on vacation to coastal locales.

My biggest fail was the Jones Road mascara. The brush is everything I love in a brush, but the formula is a gloppy mess. It's recommended that you wipe the excess off (as if this is some innovation!) then comb through with a spoolie brush, but this is mascara and it ain't that deep. I want to be able to swipe 3 times and go. Cover Girl Lash Blast has never failed me.

I bought the liquid lip from Haus Labs. The rosewood color. Supposed to be mauve it came out dark purple on my lips. It felt horrible. Returned it so fast. According to the sephora salesperson she said she's surprised Haus hasn't recalled it.

The Loreal Infallible 24 hr Fresh Wear Fondation in a Powder that everyone went crazy over was the worst cakiest looked terrible settled in every line product I used this year...and so many loved it! I was not a fan of the Atomic Lip either😂

Caliray Endless Sunset Face and Eyeshadow Talc-Free Palette - Powdery as all get out. I know clean palettes are tough, but this was worse than drug store quality. I loved its size and the wooden palette. I thought it would be great for travel. All the product was powdery with no payoff.

I tried Jones Road, not for me. Gave it to my daughter. Miracle balm and the wtf. The stick makeup remover smelled rancid, yuck. I did keep the bronzer powder but never reach for it. I did however like the fragrance though just like Beach it didn’t last very long. Thanks for doing this list and keeping some cash in my wallet.

I think they plan to make a certain product and then some or one of the ingredients aren't available. But they then still have a release date. Just a guess...because I don't understand how people ok some of these bad products.

Ooh, yeah, I got the Milani Gilded Flora and I LOVED the colors in the pan, but the formula was so disappointing. It's really hard to get any color on my lids, and even when I do it's gone in a few hours. I still use it, especially in springtime, on days I'm only in the mood for a little color. It's so beautiful in the pans, I just wish those colors translated onto my eyes better. I know some of them are pastels but come on!

I love the atomic shale lipsticks from lays Labs !! I apply one lip and let it dry and then the other . I am neurospicy as well and I have never noticed a Film , so I can't help with that :(

I need to talk about the Milani, gilded mini, because I have the whiskey business one which is all mate and I really like it. I pretty much wear it every day I wear makeup, and I choose it over the only other pallet I have, ABH. Maybe the one you have is off somehow, like that batch is bad?

I bought 2 of the guilded minis, whisky business and a purple-y one that reminded me os She's in parties by Melt. The purple one was hot trash and I agree with Jens assessment. However, whisky business is a fave this year. I use it all the time and I just love it. It reminds me of a Charlotte Tilbury palette (natural nudes, maybe?). The mattes are beautiful and buttery and blendable without fading or getting muddy. I had lost all hope for Milani shadows when they changed to this "guilded" formula a few years ago, but whisky business proved that they CAN still make a killer shadow formula...now they just need to stick to that formula and loose the "guilded" crapola! ❤❤❤

I only use it for under eyes and normally not with base makeup but when my skin’s hydrated the PTR firmX works all day for me. Been using it for years (late 20s). If I don’t moisturize I do notice a little bit of dryness from the product but when I’m not lazy and use eye creams ect it’s perfect. Dr Brant used to have a good one called no more baggage but they completely reformulated. Haven’t tried that yet.

I really do wonder if either the formula for the Bobbi brown is different in the USA to the UK, or if you got a dodgy one? Mine that I bought basically on launch day at my store is only lightly fragranced to match the Vitamin Enriched face base scent and it does give me a little something. It’s like a very lightest wash of colour that blurs slightly. But I also am super super pale and used the lightest shade, so maybe it’s just that it was adding just a little colour for me and that’s why I could see it more? I don’t know!

I just started a year ago wearing makeup other than mascara after 20 years of not wearing makeup. (55 years old btw) I tried more good than bad but the worst was rhat Tower 28 mascara. I kept trying it over and o er thinking it was just me. I finally threw it in the trash. Also where did you get that hoodie? I am a hoodie junkie and that one looks great

Funny you hated undone beauty. I love quite a few of their products. The 3in1 concealer palette is one of my faves. I can even out my skin tone within feeling like I look weird and have to continue doing my whole face. Their big poppa gloss is my fave gloss ever! So comfortable. Not sticky. Very balmy and actually lasts a long time. There’s more I like but I’ll stop there lol

I fell for that PTR FirmX garbage, I’m embarrassed to say. Used it a couple of times, but never left the house. It felt as though I’d applied Elmer’s glue, so I mixed in a bit of moisturizer, which just nullified it. That was the last PTR product I purchased - THE END. 😡

This years main kinda-sorta fail for me was the Ami Cole Lip Oil. It would be nice if it were marketed as a gloss!! But I was promised lasting moisture on the lips & all I got was a sticky [but incredible] shine & a dry feeling after it wore down. The Colourpop So Juicy gloss was less drying on me, tbh, & costs $10+ less. I just went back to my tried & true Milani Fruit Fetish Balm for actual moisture! Secondarily, the Maybelline Matte Ink liquid lipstick just isn't my fave formula... I had a brick red that worked fine for me, but the black?? It makes my lips feel sticky, it lifts up on itself, & it lifts up on whatever straw/cup I'm drinking out of. Thankfully I only wore it for a few hours to an event!

Oh my gosh! That Haus Labs lipstick is awful!! It’s the only lipstick I’ve ever taken back for a refund! It was the worst butt lip Ive ever had!

Tower 28 mascara was the worst. Doesn't hold a curl and made my lashes look so skinny. ND Need a Nude palette was too cool for me.

I had the same experience with the Peter Thomas what form XI treatment would I use instead is the plexaderm that works wonders on the forehead under the eyes the crow's feet smile lines all of it it kind of expensive it's about $60 and if you use it every day and only last a month to a month and a half but it's super good and it is worth the money if you use it sparingly though and not every day it could last longer.

I think I’m the only person who didn’t like the Natasha Denona Hi-glam concealer. I found it creasy and drying. I rarely return makeup, but I hated it so much I returned it (and forfeited the $10 Ulta birthday reward coupon I’d used on it).

OMG, that Peter Thomas Roth eye serum😮😮😮 It dries tight and doesn't sit right under your eyes correctly, so you can put on foundation. Promptly returned to Sephora.

I love the PTE eyefix ex . I put it on my forehead , my smilelknes . You can't move your face !!!! :) also you only need less than a pea size amount/ it is the Tiniest amount . If you think it is small enough it isn't

People expect influencers to be grateful for PR? It's how the economy of cosmetics works! Jen may be fortunate to work full time as a beauty reviewer, I get that there's a bit of luck involved, but she should not be expected to be grateful to brands AT ALL. Viewers are bound to feel jelly about PR, but it is what it is, let's pull up our big girlie panties & let it go. Yep, they get free stuff, it's just how the industry works. Well i appreciate that Jen is honest like all of you. I think is better to not afraid to express her opinion. I am male and don't understand much about make up but i beleave you. Call me naive and so whatever. Some wil say naive people = stupidity and thats fine. Maybe i am naive and stupid . I just want to say this thingz becouse somebody before in live chat was sayed that Jen was ignorant. And i disagree about that and think that was mean. As a man i noticed that women harass eachother for no reason. Im not saying that we men don't attack eachother verbally. We do ... but women are little bit more petty. In defence of Jen i will say that i beleave her becouse in all of her videos she do a lot of reseach instead all we lazy assses. And she research a lot of thingz that happened behind the scenes about brands and i respect that.
