To address everyone in the comments about my error with the Copic colorless blender: at the time I posted this video, I'd only used it for pushing ink (that went outside the lines) and fixing mistakes. However, I also wanted to try it for blending here, I was unaware it wasn't at all used for that since I'd never used it for that purpose, and the misleading name led me to believe that it could also blend, among fixing mistakes and such. I do want to point out however that this doesn't affect my review of the Crayola markers. I stand by my opinion of them, I really don't think they are that great at all. The reason I compared them to Copic was to see how they worked against a more premium brand, and to see whether the Crayola gives a good value for your money (as a sort of alternative to copics). Which! They did not. Regardless of my error with the Copic markers, the Crayola markers still did not blend well with each other, and their colorless blender marker (which did not have any description) acted like a bleaching pen. If we are going to compare the Copic and Crayola colorless blenders, the Crayola still performed much worse. It completely changed the colors it was placed on and made weird stains on the page. Hope this clears things up about this video! Thanks for your feedback all 💕

Hi! I have these markers and I actually like them. U should try more different paper such as water color paper, acrylic, sketch book paper, ect, I find that its harder to blend on water color paper. I would try it on a normal piece of sketch book paper. It does bleed out but u can get normal paper at Walmart for $5.00 just about :) I hope this helped 😄

Loveiffi have you work with alcohol based marker before???:) if you haven’t, colorless blender is basically just colorless marker, it wasn’t meant for blending purpose BUT it may help the blending by soaking the paper with the blender, then blending would be easier and resulting soft blending. Blending is done by go back and forth using the lither color to blend and NOT using blender between the two different colors. Colorless blender can be used to push color away so if you colored out of the line you can “erase” it with the colorless blender. Since it can be use to “erase” the color, it can be used for lifting to create some interesting texture. There are a lot of possibilities for colorless blender, just keep experimenting:) hope it helps :)

@Bookshelf it's called the same with copics. IT's because it can also be used for blending. But she made a major mistake other than that. With alcohol markers you need to work quickly, and she took her sweet time. You're using the blender wrong! Blenders can be used to lighten a color basically, and get different tones to it, or to "push pigment back" when you go over the lines; basically it saturates the color. There are some great videos about this on KZbin! The appeal of an alcohol based marker is that they blend together easily without any help.
@atelierringo88956 жыл бұрын
Nicole Butler Then good Lück trying those techniques on marker paper. Also alcohol markers are dye based not pigment based.
@rioreason6 жыл бұрын
The colorless blender destroyed the ink because that’s what it’s supposed to do. The blender isn’t intended to aid in blending two colors together. Just as with Copics - it’s meant to lighten/correct, add texture, or help blend out to the white of the paper, using various techniques. “Colorless blender” was a poor naming choice. The only time you might use the colorless blender to help blend two colors is when you saturate the paper with ink before applying any color, but you have to be so fast, or be working in a very small space. The pink and purple coming out muddy is less to do with the quality and more to do with the colors themselves. The pink seened a bit on the warm side (a touch of yellow). The yellow in the pink, plus blue and red to make the purple... makes mud. You have to blend on scrap first to ensure your colors are both warm or both cool, that you don’t have any extra stuff hiding in there that might muck up an otherwise gorgeous piece. Hope this was helpful. I really don’t mean to be condescending at all, and I hope I haven’t come off that way - I’ve learned a lot of this stuff recently myself.

I repeat, crayola is not bad at all but if you know that it isn’t going to be as good as copic then I would recommend comparing it to other markers
@NoOne-mn7so6 жыл бұрын
I thought so too, yeah these markers don't have premium quality results (as in run as great as copics) but for the price they don't seem too bad. I guess because I've used far worse art supplies before, these still gave a good result at the end, despite the little things she pointed out. Maybe I have a untrained eye that can't see the little mess ups here and there but it was a great outcome. And I agree with what you said, compare them to a cheaper brand as well, instead of comparing them to the best brand out there, because cheaps will almost always come at the bottom in comparison. But I wouldn't mind too much when she was comparing them to copics but as long as she would've compared them to a cheaper brand like touch five too.

Atelier Ringo maybe it’s not that you don’t know how to use them but you just use them in a different way. If it works for you go for it but when a colourless blender gives a bleached effect on a piece I think she should have tried both ways.
@atelierringo88956 жыл бұрын
Saga Sutinen That’s the point it might work for people and Herr are enough people that whine about how this isn’t the way it’s meant to be used. Even thought I know about Japanese artist who actually use the colorless blender for actually blending. They either layering down a layer of colorless blender to wet the paper and then use the markers they want or use it to blend out colors into white etc. But yes she should have tried both methods. Personally I would say though, that a marker that bleached the color is wrong to begin with. Markers already have a problem with lightfastness and all the stuff. So even the eventuality, that there is something harming in the markers that might destroy the durability of the work you do is bothering to me.

"And then I saw these that are for blending that look alot closer to Copic" My gripe is that everyone immediately calls and compares all markers to Copics. While yes, there are some copycat products that CLEARLY look like Copics and are trying to emulate the Copic barrel style, there are others that don't and this one doesn't. I'm just saying she could reference Winsor and Newton or Master markers or something else in a black barrel that look nothing like Copics. She even did a review on an off brand that looked VERY MUCH like a Copic marker, so she's seen others that are copycats.

Lil Miss Kawaii I have no interest in defending her. I’m not subscribed to her nor am I a regular watcher of her content - to be frank I don’t watch it at all. I just stumbled across this video due to recommendations. Most colorless blenders? Like 2-3 years ago there were mostly just 4 know brands which actually produced alcohol markers and were widely available to enough people. Too’s copic marker , Deleters Neopico Marker, Windsor&Newton Alcohol Marker And Pro markers. Shinhans Touch Marker are at least in the west a quite new thing. All brands I’ve listed so far are (at least in there home countries) experienced art supply companies. And all of them work quite similar. What those cheap brands do - who are all to some extend some kind of knock-off of those bigger brands and have their own quirks - so if they have a different way the colorless blender works it’s fine but this isn’t the root of the blender idea that the major brands had in mind so being some kind of knock off and still giving the same name is the misleading thing here…
@woahmama67125 жыл бұрын
Actually all blenders do a similar thing where they bleach the color like that. If you want to blend you have to lay the blender down first then blend it. The way applemint used the blender in this video was very flawed and some more research probably should have been done so the results of the review could've been more accurate.

"What if I want more than one skin tone?" That's...actually an incredibly good point you just made. Crayola is the same company that made an entire pack of crayons with different shades of browns and tans and peaches for skin tones to show they care, but they somehow completely overlooked the existence of people whose skin tone isn't 'weirdly orange peach' when deciding what colors should go for this blending set? I think that kind of shows that these markers were put together with no thought or care (espeically considering their performance, or lack there of) and was simply manufactured to try and get a quick buck from people who want professional markers but can't afford the copic price tag.

Yeah I was a bit confused when you actually used the colourless blender to blend two colours together haha, so I'm glad you went back and used the other method. I usually only use the Copic blender for blending to white, when I'm trying not to add any more saturation, or to erase accidental blotches of ink. Usually I use the lighter colour - mid colour - lighter colour - dark colour - mid colour - lighter colour technique. I find that with Copic at least, the markers themselves usually work just fine without the blender.

I saw a video by an art teacher a few months back who was absolutely raving about these excellent, cheap alcohol based markers from Crayola and OMG they finally put out alcohol markers and its accessible to teenagers and OMG OMG OMG. All I can say now is THANK GOD these haven't reached my local Walmart yet, or I'd have wasted my money. :P Thanks for exposing them!

Oh man.. I guess I dodged a bullet there. I thought these would be so good. I mean.. it's Crayola for pete's sake. Why would they put out shoddy goods? I had this on my Christmas wish list this passed Christmas. However, I didn't get them. Thanks for this review!
@hippiechickie186 жыл бұрын
They're okay for kids since their products are non-toxic, but it's not like their pencils compare to prismacolors or polychromos either.
@lauttus6 жыл бұрын
Thanks .. but I wouldn't even spend the money on them for my kids. The biggest deal breaker in the package is the misrepresentation of the colorless blender. Not a fan of that sort of style and/or quality of product. The other factor is that I totally agree with Appleminte, why no brown?? and why 2 yellows??
@catgirlyuri6 жыл бұрын
i think the reason why people are upset, is because they aren’t using the colorless blenders correctly. they’re for pushing back pigment and making it lighter, not blending two colors together. also, to answer the yellow question, they’re different shades, so that’s why there are two. plus, young children tend to lean towards brighter colors. no five-year-old is not going to pick up a bright pink to color a bear. crayola is directed more for children. (sorry if i sound mean or condescending or something like that, i don’t mean to, i’m just very passionate about colors.)

If you’re gonna blend, you gotta do it immediately. I think the reason the blending didn’t work at first (aka during the comic comparison) is because you let the marker dry first, so ofc it won’t blend

So glad I saw this review! I stumbled on those markers in Michael's the other day and ALMOST impulsively bought them. They were so cheap, it would've been so easy. But I decided to muster up some self-control and patience and check out one or two reviews first. Yours was clear and informative!

@frozenyogurth6 жыл бұрын
This kind of hurt me. With alcohol markers (even if the cryola aren't the copics still are and you did it with both) You need to work quickly. Working quickly will not cause them to streak and during working quickly you won't need a colourless blender to blend. The isopropanol evaporates very quickly (even faster with lighter colours) so speed is your friend when working with alcohol based markers.

That's what I thought, lol, they don't seem all that bad for the price, and her artwork looks great. Even the yellow peach color went back to a normal color once it dried. I can't afford copics so I have to look for cheap alternatives such as these. Her drawing proves its not the art supplies that makes the art great, its the artist that's using the supplies given to them.

They actually work really good I just bought some the other day... the colorless blender is actually used to remove Color and in order to blend them you put the darker color down first then start to overlap with the lighter one and it blends very well
