One thing though: Artix games can have *deep* storylines. My absolute favourite was The Devourer Saga, where basically everyone in Lore teams up to fight a fantasy Death Star that is also Satan. You had new characters and old, and their relationships. Characters died, betrayed each other, and Th'Galin (the Death Star Satan) actually has a tragic backstory. Yes, you still fight frogzards and have bad puns and all that stuff. The key is the dark stuff needs to contrast the light heartedness. I was already playing AQ for a few years by the time The Devourer Saga started, so the change in tone was shocking in itself. The same thing with Dragonfable. You spend the majority of the game taking boxes from Smeevils and finding magic socks, and like 10% figuring out your baby dragon is actually the evil one of a pair that will decide the fate of the world. Also the good one was turned into a dracolich named fluffy.

Ouch you missed something HUGE on Brutalcorn: after he dies, a teleport appears where he was standing to let you leave. If you're not directly on that spot, you don't instantly port out, and he'll actually respawn after a minute or whatever, and he does in fact have drops (and an achievement for killing him a bunch of times). You just didn't get anything cause you got booted due to standing on spot the teleporter spawned into. So the problem there is not that there are no drops, the problem is that the teleporter can spawn on top of your character and instantly teleport you out, instead of having say 3 different possible locations and coding to ensure it doesn't spawn on a person... also yeah more fanfare for his demise would be nice.
@sorrenblitz8052 жыл бұрын

@aerith119 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, devs missed something HUGE on Brutalcorn.
@hazukichanx4082 ай бұрын
Seems likely to be a testing issue. More specifically, the person who designed the fight would know not to stand on the teleporter spot (or wouldn't even think to do it, avoiding it unconsciously) because they know about it. But they don't consider that when their players fight that battle, they _won't_ be aware of that... so it would be good to test what happens if they stand in the "wrong" place, since it isn't signposted or anything. All too easy to forget or not think of in the first place, of course. Game development is a lot.

Dragonfable is a game I've replayed at least 5 times through the main stories because of the amount of humor Take a quest with the paladin artix. You're supposed to sneak into an undead lair disguised as undead. When you are stopped by the gatekeeper for not looking undead, your verbal defense is 'magic' to which the gatekeeper just says "hmm checks out" This goes on for a while, but at the same time Paladin Artix has his urge to vanquish evil rising constantly, so as soon as you convince the gatemaster to let you in, Artix attacks, blowing your cover Another example is the book 1 antagonist, Sepulcher, who hatches a dragon opposing your own, turning it into a skeleton and calling it 'Fluffy' It's perfect storytelling, perfect mix of humor and indeed deep story. I'll revisit it again at some point.
@edhofiko76242 жыл бұрын
I remember playing AQW with similar plot? You are meant to sneak into area with undead. To make that disguise you need to kill some undead and collect their bone. Then someone make the disguise for you. However instead of disguosed like a real bone, your disguise is a grocery bag with a badly drawn skull and you wear it like a hat. Damn artix has got one of the best joke for giggles.

At first the controls confused me since I am used to playing MMOs on PC. However, once I got the hang of the mobile controls I had a lot of fun playing. It's not the most sophisticated MMO, but I think thats why I enjoyed it so much. I am guessing I can do crossplay with my PC and I probably will since I brought the premium Guardian thingy to keep playing when I finished the tutorial. It's the kind of game I will likely enjoy in small bursts, in that regard the fact you can play it on mobile is certainly a plus. Just me though, but as a mobile MMO at very least it's quite enjoyable imho.

This game is all about grind I've played since release on mobile and was max level with all class till the more recent expansion sandseas I love this game but the down side is, all the early areas tend to be really low populated because all the content is moved to the recent expansion and that goes for every expansion that releases. I grinded two weeks to make at the time the best weapon in game and it was a staff that took 666 materials of 3 different mats to make. After making it about a month later the next area was released in the story line making my weapon irrelevant. That's the biggest complaint for me. If you see people in the earlier areas they are most likely farming skins as some weapons look sick af but their stats are garbage as you would need to play the most recent area to even have competitive gear. The PVP I'm this game is horrendous would not recommend and virtually nobody plays or bothers with it. There is no real healing classes aside from two classes have a healing power but that's it.
@TrickyDryad Жыл бұрын
@@preston6018 The biggest trouble I had when playing the game was the lack of reason to play in non-current zones. I fell in love with the volcano zones and the dragonslayers, once I maxed out the class I really wanted to get some of the weapons and armors from the (seemingly)super cool boss fights and dungeons in the area, but there's no way whatsoever to defeat them solo, and no one's frequenting those instanced zones! Definitely a really fun and cool game, but I think they need to give some love to those earlier zones and make them more solo friendly since there's not much of a reason to go back to them stat-wise. Though it'd be really cool if certain dungeons & boss fights where labelled as "End Game" and the armor/weapons you get from them would always be the level you needed, so endgame players would have a greater variety of content to run.

So I love your reviews and critiques, they're always a pleasure to watch. That being said, I actually disagree with the take of telling the player every small detail they need to know for gameplay explicitly. I'm referring to around the 6 minute mark where the boss has indicators telling you where he'll attack, but you're never directly told "red place bad". I think this was a very clever and intuitive gameplay design to let players learn on their own how combat here worked, and it does so in a way that lets the player get to learn through experience rather than a hand-hold, which imo would belittle the learning experience. I think there is a lot of power in making your systems learnable without info dumping a ton of text to explain all of those systems. This is, of course, a very simple example, but I think scales appreciably to many aspects of games overall, not just MMO's. The key concept and underlying belief I have here is that most players aren't entirely idiotic and, even if new to games, can draw upon real world experience and contextual clues to work out simpler mechanics like "oh, I'm fighting this big scary skeleton, but he hasn't attacked me yet. I should probably get away from that big red box that's filling up where I am." Otherwise, stellar video as always. Cheers!

I liked the story. I liked the world and exploring the expanding lore. I enjoyed how most of the time it felt like I was just doing a bunch of sidequests completely divorced from the main plot, because the fact that not all the issues of the world were connected made it feel bigger and more alive. Sadly, what was the biggest strength of the 2D games seems to be this game's greatest weakness. Doing a short sidequest between classes worked in its 2D format, but that's not fun in an MMO.

25:00 The other thing about the box joke is that they made exactly the same joke in Dragonfable, in the dragon egg hunt. The Sneevils stole the chest the dragon egg was in, but because they were only interested in it because it was a cool-looking box, they immediately dumped its contents out, so you had to go locate it. And part of the joke with that is that this was content released over a period of *months,* so you were constantly like. On the *edge* of finding this chest, only for some bizarre and absurd Artix thing to happen that put you one step back. Every step along the way felt like an escalation, so while for some people I imagine it was frustrating, on a level it was also exciting to just see what they were going to pull out next. And there's also the fact that when the egg was finally ready to hatch, the way they announced it was by changing the little log-in news blurb to "zOmg! You should talk to Twilly!" Here it's just sorta. "Haha, Sneevils only want the box, the thing you want is directly below you." idk; doesn't feel like it's got quite the same pull to it.

Besides Dragonfable.. It was just as carefree and lighthearted as the others at first but overtime the story took some on some dark and serious undertones. We've seen NPC'S who've been with us from the literal beginning die while being made to feel all but helpless as we do our best to fight against each and every threat but still can't prevent some of the NPC'S we've grown closest to over the years from dying in the end. With Dragonfable I feel like I literally never know which character will be killed off next or which city or town will be completely destroyed (because both of these things has happened more than once). I play Dragonfable to take part in the story to and see what will continue to take place within the world whereas with the others it's like I was just playing to kill time. Dragonfable is the only AE game that seemed to have actually grown up and mature with it's player base. I still play Dragonfable to this day just to see how the main storyline will continue to develop but the others are all either too childish or just not serious enough for me. Book one was lighthearted and carefree but Books 2-3 where when things actually started to take on a more serious feeling or approach. Especially book 3.

I did a playthrough of the starting experience a few years ago, and it had some elements that I liked, but overall, I was a bit disappointed. A few things I found jarring back then: It was a beta, but the feedback I provided was often swatted aside with excuses about how "that was on purpose" (like when I suggested that the PC client should have keybindings for things like I being inventory, M being a map, etc. At the time, I was informed that this wouldn't be possible due to the game also shipping on mobile, but they eventually added most of these features anyway). Another big issue I personally had with the game that you didn't mention, is that your inventory fills up really quickly. You can spend real money on a bigger inventory, but quest items are stored in your normal inventory, and if you want some sort of cosmetic set as well as an equipment set, you need to have 2 complete armor sets in your bag at all times. There's no character panel to store equipped items on, so it all just takes up space. Been watching through a bunch of your old videos but I really connected with this one, since I was an alpha and beta tester of this game as well.

Cosmetic design and other gear look the best compared to any other game , 6. The community for AQ3D is a very positive and supportive for all players more then I can say to other MMO, 7. AQ3D have always get weekly updates so the player can always have something to do and there only getting better. The downfall for this game is no quest book or log to know where you stand in this game, right now I am tier gold max player and I don’t know what quest is what to complete because they don’t tell you what you have complete so far , each class goes up to 100 going to lvl 50 to 100 is pointless makes no benefit to stats or your account this might take you 200 hours worth to get a legendary title which bunch of lame text on the top, at times they do release some repeated useless content they no one cares about on some weeks but past 4 months they been doing a good job.

Your MMO reviews really stand out from the crowd - your sense of humour, scriptwriting/line delivery quality, and expertise in the genre make them very enjoyable to watch as a casual MMO fan - seeing someone miss something that's obvious to me when they're calling out a game for being dumb can really ruin the funnies, and on the rare occasions when you do miss something in the recording, you always seem to notice in the editing phase. I'm looking forward to seeing your Worst MMO Ever series continue, and I agree with that other guy in the comments that your channel has the quality to make it pretty big! Are you familiar with the developer IGG? I haven't played anything of theirs since my childhood (and the only one I played that still seems to be alive is Angels Online), so I can't make any solid claims about their quality (though I remember the English translation ranging from questionable to incomprehensible), but I'd be very interested to see your take on any of their games. (It occurred to me shortly after writing this that your nitpicking, as you put it, is one of my favourite things about watching your videos. It's nice to see someone notice and care about the same problems that would probably bother me if I played a game.)

I’ve played a lot of mmos over the years, that would never be on this list in a million years, and I admit they are far better than AQ3D, but I still play AQ3D the most. I love the community, it’s small but not dead. It’s like living in a small town, you get to recognize the locals. Love that it’s simple and drop in drop out enough ( the lunch break thing you mention that was something they had in mind ) After Eden 8 savage on FFXIV and my arthritis getting the better of me, I’m really glad this game exists. I actually think it has a niche in the landscape. It’s imo one of the best MMOs to get people into the genre. Rather they be young or like my wife who is very casual on her games. Of course I’m very biased as I grew up on AQW, but I don’t see myself quitting AQ3D anytime soon. It has every right to be on this channel but several MMO vets prefer this over the juggernauts and that’s saying something. Idk, there’s just something about laying in bed on a tablet casually grinding for a 1 percent drop with only a handful of skills at your disposal instead of sitting in your computer chair learning mechanics with deep complex classes like FF summoner. It’s not even close to being perfect, it being in beta for so long is laughable, but I’ll always be rooting for it to succeed. I totally outgrew my long time AE games username ( Babyhound) but not this game. Sorry for rambling!

@@TwizzElishus I don't buy early access games? The point of Early Access isnt to permanently be on there regardless. It's in the name as in you are paying to access the game before it is ready. @@FlamespeedyAMV No, as a dev working for a big company myself: during "early access" or better known alpha and beta, you have to pay almost no tax for getting funds and later can get back all that paid tax once it is released. My company does the same and lets itself get funded by the customer during the beta phase with a 50% payment. It is no excuse to never deliver anything, it is a simple tactic to pay less tax. Even if they are in perpetual beta, once they stop delivering updates for a significant time (different from country to country), the law sees the software as finished. In this games case they don't have to fear any fraud claims, since there is a game, as barebone as it may be, but they milk those cheap taxes. Currently dayz and star citizen are my personal contestors for milking that lower tax to the maximum.

I know this will change literally everything you've said about the game, every last itty bitty thing beyond a shadow of a doubt, something so mind blowingly insane that I have to hide it beneath the break. The brutalcorn does drop something, you just killed him while standing where the exit spawns.
@anvos6582 жыл бұрын
Just one thing I want to point out, a lot of the stuff you said was an unfinished project were merely mini games. Though yeah, ever since MechQuest they've been slightly throw ideas at the wall and see what sticks. . As for what AQ3D is I think it was as much them hedging their bets against the Flashpocalypse, let alone I feel its niche is meant to be an mmo you can also play on mobile. Also you pretty much nailed it they always sold themselves more on the lunch break style of gameplay where you didn't have to have long play sessions. . I feel like you likely miss that they know their not a direct competitor with a main line MMO, but something more casual and indie, though overall Artix Entertainment has done well enough. . Also I'd put the age for Artix games at more teen than kids game. . While I get its not an excuse for the music (especially since they have done some good scores in the past) its also been a highly acceptable thing that Artix Entertainment games are something you play with your own tunes.

Josh: "I hate grey screens that point out what a thing you HAVE to click!" Also Josh (Rift): "The game did nothing to show me the abilities page!" (It had pop ups that were closed immediately.) There's reasons games feel they have to do this, Josh. Better integration is, of course, preferable. But if it's absolutely core to the gameplay, sometimes, you just gotta show 'em. Sure, it causes dissonance and breaks immersion, but the small investment of learning the systems in which to interact with the game is vital to any sort of fulfillment.

I stopped playing it recently because it got so boring. Too many repetitive fetch quests and lackluster side content to really keep me interested in playing and I'm been playing the game since closed beta and it's a miracle I lasted that long. This game is starting to suffer from some of the same issues AQW did. Too many rare cosmetics and repetitive fetch quests instead of evolving the actual story and the combat to keep things interesting. The game is unfinished and still in open beta a few years later and they're using the players as the testers. Nowadays I just log on for a quick minute, do a few dailys and log off.
