Poor Trinity. That undiagnosed uterine infection was probably the reason she was dumped because it would have made her an unsuccessful breeder. Pyometra in dogs can be a death sentence. My cat had pyometra. Even if they appear healthy it can long term affect the kidneys. My sweetheart lived to eighteen, however. Anyway, be sure to keep an eye on her kidney function. You maybe should ask a vet about putting her on a special kidney diet food rather than regular, or how to adjust her diet to help maintain her kidneys. You are all so lucky to have each other.

He was holding her and then I took her, but she wanted nothing to do with me and jumped back into my hubby's arms! At first I felt so bad but we ended up adopting her and it's now 13 months later and she fits in so well. She is the smartest little dog and she came already potty trained to use a doggie pee pad by our back door if were not up early. Which I found amazing since our last 3 boys (Bichon Frise's) trashed our last house and we had to completely put in new flooring. As much as I loved my 3 Bichon's I will never have another male dog ever. Hannah also recalls instantly as I trained her to come lickity split when I blow this particular whistle (It sounds like a British police whistle).

That was a sweet video! There is a completeness a dog gives a home and when they’re not there is when it’s definitely felt. I feel like I always say this but I just want to thank you again for giving Trinity such a great home with two actively involved special humans who take such sweet care of her. My little Maltese was bit by a dog who jumped the fence and he became reactive to other dogs. With work, it has greatly improved. I don’t condone using shock collars ever. But there is a little handheld unit I got off Amazon that emits either a beep or a sound wave only dogs hear that made a huge difference for us. I actually ordered it to use if the attack dog ever did that again but started using the beep sound to train with and I can’t give any greater praise. I’ve actually never used the high pitch sound wave option. If he’s starting to bark at other dogs thru the front door all it takes is showing him or saying we’re getting what we call “the beeper.” Cost around $35. I take it on every walk and everywhere we go. Just a thought. Good luck on your journey to Alaska. If it’s anything like Hawaii , it’s a little complicated but once you’ve done it, you’ll be pros. Safe travels!

We have grocery stores and pet stores up here in Canada.
@OpenRoading8 ай бұрын
haha! Yes, we are aware. 😁 There are two reasons we are stocking up: 1 - Specific brands. There are certain things we don't want to switch brands for. Unfortunately pet food is one of them so we'll just have to hope that what's up there is the same. Something we are aware of is in different countries sometimes teriffs and laws mean a brand product that looks the same isn't actually the same (chocolate for instance - A reese in Canada isn't the same as a reese's in the states because Canada has specific chocolate import laws that the US does not.) 2 - Cost. I understand we have to calculate for the exchange rate - but as we travel we will be spending most of our time in rural areas...rural almost always means more expensive. We run a pretty tight budget so we try to save where we can. 🙂 -J

I worked in a veterinary clinic and I had trouble filling out the health certificates for Canada, especially for people who were going to be camping, some campgrounds don’t have an address. The other problem was they’re only good for 30 days.
@OpenRoading8 ай бұрын
We've been informed by some people from alaska that the 30 days is more of a guideline and they have never seen an issue with CVIs being as old as 90 days. We'll find out I'm sure. -J

Some CVI are only good for 2 weeks prior to entering that state. I used to work at a vet clinic and some owners wanted to be proactive and do it months ahead of travel time but the certificate would expire and they would have to do another one closer to travel day. The longest paperwork is to Hawaii, definitely start months in advance for that one.
@OpenRoading8 ай бұрын
So I'm curious - Since we are in state for more than 30 days how would that work? We've spoken with someone else up there who said while technically they are only good for 30 days it's treated as more of a guideline and they've never seen someone have a problem with it being up to 90 days old. -J
@monicacastillo8018 ай бұрын
The main reason for the certificate is to certify that your pet is free of any diseases or parasites. So that is why a certificate that is older than 2 weeks prior to entering the state is not accepted. Once in the state you should be fine to stay as long as you want but when coming back to the lower 48 you will most likely need a new certificate. Check the state's USDA guidelines some are easy and explain everything others you need to call them to get the information.

Our pup chewed the stiches out the night we brought her home from being spayed. We did not use a 'collar' and had to do an emergency visit to the vet to get her stitched back up. So, overnight stay... for the win!

ooooooo That's no good! That makes a lot of sense actually! But my question is, is there someone AT the vet office all night to observe? -J
@AdventureRVLife8 ай бұрын
@@OpenRoading probably not, but our guess is they would have put a cone on her...which we didn't do, initially. It was a bit unnerving to see the sutures out, the incision gaping open! Our vet, who was actually retired and helping out his son's practice, met us at the office at 1am and said he'd never seen such a clean removal of sutures! So, I guess that was a positive. LOL

Make sure you send in the microchip info. Another channel I watch involves a shelter and it's crazy how often lost dogs are chipped but there is no info so the owner cannot be contacted. My own dog ran off and I got him back because he was chipped. A friend didn't get her dog chipped and someone stole the dog out of her fenced yard.

She has beautiful neck into shoulder, good strong rear and she is so totally well balanced. What does all that mean. That means that she is build correctly so you will not get hip and joint issues and early onset of arthritis. Bottom line, you hit the jackpot when she decided she belonged to you. Also, having a big dog on the road is a huge safety factor. As a senior woman who is a Roadtripper no one messes with an older woman with a big dog! CONGRATULATIONS! Another great video. I like watching these videos while I am doing my medical charting. I would be interested if food prices are really that big of a difference in Alaska as least in the major cites (Anchorage, Fairbanks). I guess we have been here so long that it at doesn't appear to be expensive. Another indication that I have been here too long it that the my wife and I don't even use window shades when we sleep. So using eye shades to sleep is very tourist

Make sure you properly register on the microchip site. I'm not sure how traveling will affect that but y'all know that issue already. Lots of people get their pets microchipped but never go the next step to register. Then, if the pet is found, the agency/vet can see the microchip but then there is no data or updated data on the site so no way to contact the owner.
