A Ferrari Enzo has been left with only two wheels after a huge crash in the Netherlands. To make matters even more awkward, it seems the responsible party wasn’t an owner. According to local news outlet De Gooi-en Eemlander, the wreck happened while the Enzo was being test-driven by a mechanic from a business in nearby Hilversum on Tuesday morning. Thankfully, he’s said to have been released by medics at the scene after checks.

I understand there are many worse things in life, but I was specifically talking about the perspective of a mechanic. In that context, crashing a customer's car, especially a rare and expensive one like a Ferrari, is about as bad as it gets. I wasn't comparing it to life's greatest tragedies, but just highlighting a mechanic's worst nightmare within their professional world. Jeez, does everything really have to be explained these days?

The thing is with cars like this the cockpit is separate from everything else rather than the conventional body over frame setup of normal cars. So a lot of the times it wouldn’t work due to frame damage. Sure the frame could be replace but most manufacturers won’t take the time to do it.

Unfortunately you had to be a minimum age of 25 to be eligible for insurance to drive the car and my dad had to let it go when I was 21 due to financial troublew with business so sadly I didn't have the pleasure of driving it, it sure was a fun car to be a passenger in nevertheless. My dad's was also a manual the skeletal gear gaitor and chrome gear knob were so cool along with the round smaller dials for oil temp etc. Cars of that era were just so cool and had real character. I feel as though cars now look very similar across the ranges. Lamborghinis models look very similar to each other as do ferraris and even german cars like mercedes and bmw. One day a coworker asked him if he wanted to go for a quick spin and it lasted about all of 3 minutes and then boom right into a wood power pole. The person that reported the accident was a guy who was servicing a phone line and said that the car looked like a bee flying by then a loud crash. There is way more than 400 Enzos. Someone has tracked actual on the road cars globally, and the total number of registered Enzo Ferraris is at least 650. At least 17 are total ground up factory replacement chassis cars from just a surviving VIN Tag on cars reduced to ashes and aluminum slag caused by Ferrari Spontaneous Combustion Syndrome. The Enzo gifted to The Pope is Chassis #401, for example. Ferrari constantly lies about the total production of "Limited Edition" models. If an oil sheik wants a fleet of Enzos, those are not counted in the "Official" production numbers. Pay Ferrari enough, and you can get a brand new, but unofficial F40 built, there are NDAs involved, though.

Not only will they repair them.. but will also let you customize & also upgrade to the latest model (which can mean a 100% new car & chassis).. And they now have a program to restore all the "boy racer" 760's back to their classy, original spec. I think Horacio's a purist, & was sad to see all the Zonda C12's, S's & F's get turned into matching, flawless 760's. Which loses the handbuilt look & imperfections from the early days.

In the 80's I worked at a Porsche Audi Maserati dealership and got a friend a job there. In his first week he took a customer's original 930 Turbo on the streets without asking and t-boned another customer's Maserati leaving the dealership on his way back into the parking lot. $55k in damages. He was terminated immediately and everyone involved took him to court. He is still making tiny payments the last I heard.

This may not be all his fault, as a 37 year veteran professional driver and lifelong auto enthusiast, I clearly remember several people wrecking these cars, something must be defective in the power control system, like the power disengagement system, specifically, the clutch, that's allowing that monster engine to literally overpower the braking system, that is somehow refusing to properly disengage the engine from the drivetrain.

Car driver came out of the car yelling, "I didn't see him! I didn't see him!" He survived the impact and left in an ambulance. Don't know how well he fared at the hospital. Thanks for making me realize the bigger cons of being a mechanic. No wonder there is such a low number on being one. If you have this situation happen you end up losing all that you were meant to make on the repair when having to buy the customer a new car. How shit. I hope I think of something else to be fast or I'm screwed for life. Like as a mechanic I don't plan to do bad but if I start of bad right off the bad I'll be in debt from bad repairs since all cars are different when it comes to repairs 😵‍💫

My family had that problem. We had a 360 modena going in for a normal service job. The garage ended up crashing the car and didn’t tell us anything about it. They just redirected the cost to us. Years later when we sold it the buyer said the car was crashed as he could see it in the frame. We didn’t realize and were just confused. Another couple of years later we ended up meeting a guy talking about a story like this back when he was a ferrari mechanic. Turns out it was our car. And that’s how we found out.
