So glad and appreciative at how Dodgers have been ran. These are the golden years for Dodgers modern baseball.
@jakes37992 жыл бұрын
For the amount of talent that the Dodgers have, you should be only mildly happy. One championship is great, no question. It's not an easy thing to get. But with the amount of talent on that team, they should already be a dynasty, like the '96-'03 Yankees. That hasn't happened. It still could, but it hasn't happened so far. I would consider what they've done so far as mildly successful at best.
@ReanuKeaves12 жыл бұрын
@@jakes3799 The other two times the Dodgers made it to the World Series the past 5 years, they went up against to teams that cheated. On top of that, baseball is going to baseball. It’s much easier to win a NBA finals championship when your front office puts in work whereas baseball it doesn’t mean you’re a shoe in to win. Plus, regardless of championships, the Dodgers have been a very well ran organization, especially when you lived thru the McCourt era.
@jakes37992 жыл бұрын
@@ReanuKeaves1 The A's went to 3 World Series in a row from '88-'90. I don't consider them a dynasty. So yes, I know that the Dodgers made it to the World Series a couple of times in addition to their win. It doesn't matter. Maybe it would matter more if they had won more championships like the Yankees did. Then those WS losses add to the dynasty. But IMO you have to win at least 3 championships within a short period of time to be considered a dynasty. And hard as it is, it has been done. The Giants won 3 in 5 years. That's a dynasty. The Yankees won 4 out of 5 and then made it to two more World Series after that. They also did the best record in AL in 1994 and had a great team in 1995 that lost by a hair. Now, that's definitely a dynasty. The only team that didn't win multiple championships that I would also consider a dynasty is the Braves of the 90s. And that's because they won so much and so consistently, and had such amazing players, that you just can't ignore them.
@ReanuKeaves12 жыл бұрын
@@jakes3799 Not sure why you’re talking about the giants, A’s, or dynasties. Your point is convoluted at this point. All I said was these are the modern golden years for the Dodgers dude.
@jakes37992 жыл бұрын
@@ReanuKeaves1 I suppose you didn't specifically address the dynasty point I originally made. But you did state that these are the Dodgers' golden years. That statement seems a little bit strong IMO for a team with such high expectations, talent, and such high team salary. Maybe if it was the Guardians that statement would fit better. But for the Dodgers? With the amount of talent they have on that ball club? Maybe they don't have to be a dynasty. But anything less than 2 championships within the span of 5 years is a disappointment.

It's so important for people to know this because so many people love to say, "the dodgers are just a bought team, they pay for playoffs and world series" but that is not the case. The Dodgers have been through hell and have literally risen from the ashes. I grew up in the mccourt Era. I remember being a little kid going to these games and even though the dodgers could've been so much better, I still had so much love for the team. The Dodgers work so hard now, from the front office to the farm system itself. Andrew friedman and the new owners, are the best thing to happen to the dodgers in a long time. I have so much pride in being a dodger fan, even through the hardest times.

Thanks for untangling the Frank and Jamie McCourt Era in Los Angeles. Excellent job explaining. Especially the complicated financial mess. You made it easy to follow. What a key role MLB Commissioner Bud Selig played in all the drama. What I really remember the most is the Dodgers had some very exciting teams during the six McCourt years. Had Ned Collette as G.M. He made several big trades. For Normar Garciapara Manny Ramirez, Adrain Gonzales and others. It’s “poetic justice” McCourt didn’t wait a bit longer to sell his Dodgers. Sold before an $8.3 Billion Spectrum Cable Deal was put together and finalized. New ownership, with Magic Johnson, fell into that gold mine!

In 04, Depodesta traded Loduca, pitcher, Mota, and Encaracion to the Marlins for Brad Penny and Hee Seop Choi. Depodesta was all for a complete different color scheme of dodger stadium, in fact all seats had gone to a really dark blue and it was McCheap who actually followed that lead. I remember very well seeing piles and piles of old original seats in the the Dodger Stadium parking lot. A few years later McCheap (McCourt) did not even have last names on jerseys. Finally, he relented but the font in the players' names was terrible. Another bum move and not mentioned by you, is the Dodgers moved from their iconic Dodgertown in Vero Beach FL courtesy of F.M. Finally, don't think Guggenheim is your Savior, just because they finally won the WS, the division(s), reg season etc. Prices have gone up across the board, from food prices to bare minimum seats/top deck and now considering ads on jerseys.

The lowest point for me came when, after the sale to the great Guggenheimers, it was revealed McCourt was stiffing Vin Scully out of his paycheck, giving him IOU notes until he could wrest the Dodgers out of the bankruptcy he put them in; Vin never publicly complained about it, keeping it quiet from the fans who, if we had known, we might have stormed the one of McCourt's 14 mansions he lived in, and lynched him. The 2nd worst moment came when it was revealed Bud Selig, the supposedly heroic commissioner of baseball who forced McCourt to sell the team out of bankruptcy, had been the guy who manipulated the sale of the Dodgers to McCourt in the first place in a sweetheart deal after McCourt was disapproved from buying the Red Sox, as a cheap consolation prize! To which all I can say is Fuck Bud, who was up to his hips in scandal himself, forcing the National League to accept the small market Boring Brewers in a switch with one of the two original 1962 NL expansion teams, the Houston Astros, because Bud, who owned the AL Brewers before he became commissioner of baseball, yearned for the days of his youth when the Braves moved to Milwaukee, his first baseball love, and Selig wanted to recreate the situation with Milwaukee being part of the NL, so as noted forced the Boring Brewers into the NL and to even it out forced the Astros into the AL, just to satisfy his ridiculous wetdream of bringing the NL back to Boring Milwaukee, a nothingburger of a city not interested enough in baseball to ever equal the NL's greater popularity than the AL, born 28 years later than the NL with The Best of city locations vs the AL's lesser, smaller and more suburban sites when they were formed, the NL having established themselves in the larger and better citues. Until Milwaukee became an NL team again, the NL annually outdrew the AL by multiple millions of fans vs the AL which consisted of 2nd tier cities with lower fan interest. Being a Dodger fan since they escaped a crappy small park in rundown Brooklyn to become THE premier most popular team in baseball in LA, annually setting the highest standard of team attendance by a wide margin, verging on 4 million every year, whereas Boring Milwaukee rarely ever approached 2 million. Bud Selig lowered the high standards of the National League with his self-serving Milwaukee switcheroo. Take that, Selig. And shove it.

I'm surprised most (if not ALL) true Dodger fans that still drive to the games haven't already gone that route instead of blindly paying McCourt for the stadium parking that he still owns to the best of my knowledge. At the very least, Guggenheim ownership should've had a sign right outside the parking area saying flat-out: "DODGER STADIUM PARKING AREA PROPERTY OF FRANK MCCOURT. ALTERNATE PARKING SITES AND FREE DODGER SHUTTLE SERVICE NEAR STADIUM STRONGLY ADVISED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. OTHERWISE, PAY AT YOUR OWN RISK!" Bet that would get Frank to give it back real quick, lol... 😅

Pretty sure he still owns the parking lot at Dodger stadium, and he's making bank off it.

Great job on this DMac, it's still hard to imagine an owner worse than Donald Sterling, but Frank is definitely as bad if not worse. Didn't the "Blue home uni" experiment happen under McCourt? Nuff said.

Yeah.hes the one that had the players last name removed from the back of the uniform to copy the n.y Yankees & Boston red Sox.

Worst part about Frank McCourt, he's still owns Dodgers Stadium parking lot 😔
@sharontighe37452 жыл бұрын
The part that continues to hurt.....he still owns 50% of the parking lots/area around Dodger Stadium....and will get profits from any future development of the land.

Hands down, the worst part was not keeping Adrian Beltre. He was a monster in 2004 and easily our best player. Instead of offering him the money he deserved, we signed Jeff Kent (a person no one in LA liked) and JD Drew (won a title with the Red Sox after opting out in LA). However, I am pretty sure Dodger GM at the time, DePodesta, is more to blame for this than McCourt.

The era is not over as he still owns the parking lot and the prices go up every year.

McCourt got lucky. I'm sure Steve Cohen wouldn't have given him permission to share his bid with other prospective buyers, too. He was a real low-life.

Crazy story.. As a Padre fan.. We have had bad owner after bad owner until recently (Fowler and Seidler + O'Mally's).. The only difference was he actually spent money.. lol our payroll was 60m, the highest being 110m until the team was bought by the newer ownership. Crazy how things work out.

MLB should never have approved the sale to Frank McCourt.
@PeekaPeep2 жыл бұрын
Nah, they had to because the majority of team owners at the time simply wouldn't have it any other way. Dodgers have always been the absolute envy of MLB (even more so than the "hated" Yankees, lol) ever since being the first to officially break the baseball color barrier with the signing of Jackie Robinson 75 years ago. Handing the franchise over to a two-bit Boston carpetbagger in McCourt was in their eyes the best way of finally knocking the long-celebrated Dodger brand down a peg, or so they initially thought 😏. What they didn't count on was McCourt being so outrageously bad at running a high-profile baseball team that he was on the verge of exposing MLB itself as a MASSIVELY incompetent pro-sports league soon to be made financially irrelevant. Looking back, I'm amazed then-commissioner Selig actually put his foot down and forced the Dodgers out of McCourt's hands just long enough to hand it over to an ownership with legitimately deep pockets because he was 100% in league with the other owners that wanted to see the Dodger franchise bent over a barrel in the absolute worst way. Guess the old saying still holds true: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!! 😆😂🤣💀

worst part of the mc court era.. hiring paul de podesta as GM and dismantling the 2004 team after the all star break. his money ball mentality got rid of paul lo duca, Dave roberts, among a few and crippled the team into the post season. especially without a true starting catcher they were useless.
