I had three friends working with different middle eastern employers in Windsor and out of them one used covid as an excuse of not paying the remaining wages. Remaining wages amounted to almost $1200 and as a student that's a big chunk of money. After not paying him for 2-3 months, this friend contacted the labour board and let them know. Once labour board sent this employer a notice, the very next day this employer came to our house and handed over all the payment in cash. For students, who feel they are being exploited, try to get some voice recordings with the employer and your college/university will have some law students. Students from this department can help you out in guiding the right process and believe me 100%, you will get your wages back.

It was during the last summer, in July, I was working as a kitchen helper in an Indian Restaurant in Toronto. I wasn’t paid on my paydays and I had to leave 2800$. I am a Nepalese and all the workers were from Nepal only an Indian was the manager but I was exploited by my natives. From there onwards, I promised myself not to trust anyone easily and do whatever they instructs.

I am an International student with 4 years of prior experience in Digital Marketing. While looking for part time job in same field, I started overnight stocker in Walmart. I worked over there for 3 months, and trust me those 3 months were the toughest for me in terms of working for any employer. The work is too difficult, heavy stuff, base pay, etc. Fortunately I got the part time job in my field after 3 months.

For Master and PhD students, the best part time job is the one that has your tuition waived by working 20 hours a week for a professor, with a small amount of pay.

"Amazing knowledge, buddy! But I do want to say that shipping companies like PUROLATOR and UPS are good to work at. They offer more than the minimum wage, around $19-25 per hour, and they also have EMPLOYEE UNIONS, making it interesting and ensuring you feel safe working there. Additionally, the overtime pay they provide is around $35-40 per hour. So, I definitely say it's best to work for companies DURING YOUR SURVIVAL PERIOD."

Everything is OK but factory shifts are only the best options you know I have exp of both restau and factory I think restaurants are way more physically demanding compared to the factories in manh factory you get 30min break paid if unpaid you will be asked to work 30min more additionally 2 breaks of 10mins which are paid. While there are no paid breaks, most restaurant have now waived free food, many of them just give 50% discount and the moment you start shift u will keep standing till the moment u end shift except breaks. Also, the factory is the only solid source of income, which will give fix 40hrs on weekly basis while in restaurants u will get 5-10-15-20 max 30 not more than that if u are student or part time and even if u are shift managers many time ur weekly hrs are also like 25-30-35-40. With a sword of early clockout, always hanging overhead.

It's very sad to see exploitation of students and that too by our own country men who are well settled there instead of helping them in a new country where they don't have family and parents. My family member who is in IT was telling me all this info just few days back as how students are exploited here .. especially working in restros and they get burns while cooking 😢 Not by choice but by need these children have to do all odd jobs to pay fees and expenses which is again a responsible decision. But as GURSAHIB said they should be smart enough to shift to better and skilled jobs asap🌞
