Why would you leave brand new appliances in a room that's being renovated. Don't buy your new appliances until the job is finished.

If this is a listed building, using gypsum plaster is already wrong to begin with. The guys that did plastering in my house (just a normal 30s house) did a similar shit job.

Mate I see that on 85% of new plastered jobs I’ve been decorating over 40 years and seen that loads of times. Customer totally blind to it until paint goes on then it’s usually can you fill it!😂 They want me to skim over it with filler. They love paying twice for some reason. I refuse to do it I say get plaster back then ring me.

@@headleshydra A listed building doesn't have to be very old. Just has to be of historical significance. Also cavity walls started in the 1800s. Lots of properties with solid walls have gypsum and no issues at all. Damp walls typically come from DPC bridging or other water faults like guttering issues.

Over 30 years in the trade as a painter and i don't think i've ever come across plastering as bad as that and i've seen some absolute shite in that time , beyond comprehension how they think doing that standard of work justifies getting paid . Unbelievable.
@johnscott6963
@johnscott6963 11 ай бұрын
I started my decorating apprenticeship in 1976. I took it for granted for the first ten years that plasterers would finish plaster to a glass like finish. Now? omg. It's not just plastering mind. The standard of building work now? But what do we expect when we have no traditional apprenticeships anymore. I worked for five years in a local college. Young girls and boys doing courses for a year or two now competing with tradespeople for work on sites up and down the country. Know everything about PPE and H&S but capable of carrying out a job to a decent standard? The young painters for example weren't even taught how to empty paint from a bloody can. "Technicians" did it for them. Clean brushes etc? Dito. Taught to cut in glazing beads with 2" brushes!! Painters of my generation were taught to pour paint from the back of the can. Today they'd laugh and ask what's the point 😂 The college guys "teaching" them.........don't get me started. Never worked on a site in their life. Not a single one of them. So I'm sorry mate. Jobs like yours are no longer unusual. They are more and more common. We had cowboys back in the 70s too but they were well outnumbered by four and five year apprenticed tradespeople. Guys who took pride in their work, not just how quick they could finish it. Pricing work killed the standards. Plasterers suddenly stopped polishing plaster to a high sheen. They made fortunes in the 80s. Painters today still talk about mist coats. That's a laugh. The new plaster is usually so hot not having a skin you end up using gallons of thinned down paint to prime it. That has repercussions. Up goes paper a few years later, lovely job. Then further down the line, time for a change. You start ripping off the paper and along with it comes strips of emulsion. What a bloody mess. So I'm sorry. We're all cowboys now. You can make all the videos you want (reeediculos) but can you honestly say that you are any better. Is your own standard any better today than it was back in the 70s. Unpolished plaster would prove its not.

There are still good plasterers around. Me and my brother have had painters say this is the best plastering they have seen we even go over with a wet towel an extra time if we are not happy with the finish. One problem is when plasterers put too much on and they can’t cope . Also the multi Finnish is ridiculous these days back when I started plastering over 10 years ago when wet troweling it would fill in low spots these days it doesn’t fill in , before the French took over thistle saint gobien and they kicked up a stink about plaster board waste and plaster waste the plaster was ok every plasterer I speak to says the same thing they are adding things into the plaster , pva , even new plastering products that nobody buys plaster without pva uni Finnish quick set pro Finnish , when nobody buys these products they can’t waste it I’m sure they stick it back in the multi Finnish and add additives . Obviously making excuses about the plaster is blaming everyone else but yourself but it’s true I have even complained to saint gobien and they were not interested every once in a while the plaster is good . Every new date on a bag it’s different colour different consistency and goes of differently I’m 38 I take pride in my work

I won’t ever try plastering again, it’s not easy AT ALL, it’s a skilful trade and definitely a special art, will be leaving it to the professionals in the future but I just had to try it for the sake of my DIY self🤣
