When I see these types of videos, or whenever you have to dig under a home to make the repair, I appreciate how I do not have to do that and just access under the home through crawl space panels in closet floors.

@tan j maz Is there a particular reason your using pvc because there is multiple fittings to go from PB to pex.
@NoL0NGERhumAn
@NoL0NGERhumAn 3 жыл бұрын
@tan j maz pex crimp tools are cheap on amazon and pex pipe and fitting are also cheaper than shark bites. but to answer your question no you cant glue them together far as i know the only transition fitting from pvc to PB pipe is the specialized shark bite fitting.

@tan j maz You definitely do not want to use regular PVC pipe for domestic water lines though!!! Use CPVC, or PEX, or copper...regular PVC isn't meant for drinking water. Chemicals can leech from the PVC into the water and cause cancer and other health problems.
@eyellgeteven9928
@eyellgeteven9928 3 жыл бұрын
@tan j maz I'm just saying that in my state CPVC is approved for potible water (or at least used to be), same as PEX and copper, but PVC is definitely not approved. I'm actually an old school copper guy and if I were to build a house I would go for type L copper over any plastic line. I don't think ANYONE actually installs CPVC brand new anymore, I'm not even positive you can still get it.

prime example of "temporary repair" becoming permanent, until it leaks again, LOL. years ago, they used to pound in and break off pencil lead, then tape overtop to hold it in, yes I've seen exactly such repairs on copper out in an open basement, last for 30+ years

@@ryandeee4628 I work at a hospital too, mine is a mental hospital though, but unscheduled shut downs are REALLY frowned upon for sure. I've had to resort to hackery to keep something going until we can schedule the time to do it....you gotta do what ya gotta do in certain situations and learn to adapt and jerry rig and cheat to patch something together temporarily just to keep things running. Leaving something like that as permanent is unlikely where I work, where everything is documented and tracked, it could come back to haunt you in more ways than one. The only real exception these days is when someone is on call from another trade, and they rig up an abomination at night or on the weekend and forget to tell us about it. We do find crazy stupid stuff in a couple of the older (1930s - '50s) buildings from time to time though...God knows how long some of those shitty repairs have been there.

We've always called the clamp and hose a "bandaid" it's not a repair, it's a temporary fix. And I've ran into times where knowing about it has saved my backside. In my service days we had customers who did not want to spend the money for a proper repair and would demand the bandaid fix. Finally went back to repipe one of these homes and there were bandaids every 3 feet on this line and several sharkbite fittings where the pinhole was too close to a fitting for a bandaid.

Just had to repipe an entire house because they still had galvanized lines underground. Lines were so rusted that the thickness of the pipe wasn’t even 1/16” . Of course there was fixes all over with pex. But the main line going to the front and back of the house was still galvanized steel. I told them it needs a complete repipe. They still had the nerve to ask me to patch the leak. So I tried to anyways (just to prove my point)for about an hour. Took pictures of everything, even brought the piece of pipe I cut out to show them. They finally agreed to the repipe. Some people man 😂

So I've redone the plumbing in my house from qust to pex a few years ago and just changed the check valve with a new pressure reducer valve (need to find and remove the original if there is one) and placed it on a valve box so even if it fills in its easy to find next time. Prior to that my grandfather redid the subfloor and he was an electrician not a plumber. Didn't have the tools to do a lot of work he got a piece of braided pvc to reconnect the qust to the other end of the qust pipe for the sink and it held no leaks for like 12 years... Came home one night, it slipped of it out back on other than that never leaked.😂

the previous owner of my house was an engineer. any place he made changes to the plumbing, he spliced copper pipe together with rubber hose and stainless pipe bands. growing up, we had an irrigation system coming from a spring. when the 40 year old steel pipe would develop a rust hole, we'd stack two truck tire patches, put them over the hole and clamp them on with those pipe bands - the pressure would mold the unvulcanized rubber into the hole, and seal the pipe well enough to hold the pressure.

I’m pretty interested to show you how we repair sewage pipes that are not accessible. Here in the Netherlands most of the sewage pipes in homes are either in or beneath concrete. Even the asbestos/iron to PVC “couplings” that people have made that leak can be repaired. We use woven giberglass sheets and boat resin. My grandfather had been doing that to sewer mains for years and regular household plumbing has only caught up to this way of repairing in the last 4 years. It is pretty expensive tho. 110/125mm pipe repairs run at about €850,00. But it can save people from having the asbestos removed or their house torn apart for a small leak.

Yeah, that's a sound plumbers are VERY familiar with...I remember sitting at my gf's parent's house one night a couple of years ago, and I could barely hear this sound coming form the basement. I asked if they had something running and they said they didn't, so I started down the stairs and it got louder and yep, it was a split in a copper line in an unfinished wall down there. Nobody else could hear it at first, and like a lot of older plumbers, my ears aren't what they used to be, but I KNOW that sound too well, lol.

Had a handy man replace my water heater in the attic. Worst decision of my life. I bought the home knowing the water heater was a 16 year old Kenmore. He opened the drain valve which broke and leaked 30 gal of water into my bedroom. Ruining the drywall and bed. Tried to tell the handy man what happened he just ignored me and finished installing the new water heater. Couldn't get a hold of him after that.

Ok, Roger, HVAC guy here, I do a lot of soldering of copper lines and I am curious why you wouldn't just take a oxy/acet torch to the leak in 1:49 it may be different in comparison to HVAC and Plumbing but my first instinct with a leak like that is load up the ol' torch and blob some solder onto it, your take on why it would be different?
@Azaduur
@Azaduur 3 жыл бұрын
You arent allowed to have pipe connection underneath a slab (at least in Texas), which is why all that copper was just bent soft copper running up through the concrete, so that the Tee's could be manifolded into the wall, above the slab and ran back down to separate fixtures. As far as i am aware, the only joint an inspector will allow under a slab is a brazed joint, hence his mention of sil-fos. On another note, no inspector in Texas will let a handyman repair such as filling in a pinhole with solder, fly. Theyre charging people first born children to tunnel under a slab like that, the least they can do is do it correctly.
