Have you ever seen Group B rally from the 1980s? Spectators were in the middle of the road, having to jump out of the way of and sometimes even over the cars. Absolutely mental.

It can be done in a pretty safe way if you know what you are doing. Feeling the car fly past as the exhaust rumbles in your chest is a pretty fantastic feeling. Rally and hillclimb are the best to experience that, being on the side of a track is not nearly as good

Not so Fun Fact: The driver at 4:16 is Robert Kubica. A polish driver known for surviving 2 near fatal crashes. One in Formula 1 in 2007, and the other in Rally in 2011, which cost him the mobility in his right forearm. As of Right now, he still drives as a reserve driver for Alfa Romeo F1 Team and is riding off the back of a European Le Mans Championship win.

I believe the driver at 6:06 had a brake failure and was trying to find some runoff area. He ended up finding an exit of the track onto a main road without the ability to slow himself down. He's pretty lucky

With racecars, the worse it looks, the better it is for the driver most times. They're strapped tight into a safety cell and all the crushing and flying off of major car pieces like tires and engines is designed to carry away a lot of the crash's energy. A perfect wreck would see the car shed everything but the driver's compartment and leave that bit spinning around on the track. Fatal crashes, like Earnhardt or Senna, often don't look like that bad when they happen, just another hard off into a barrier
