This V7 Batman radar detector is amazingly... awful. This is my full video review.

ok...i got sucked in and bought one for $14 usd. but on the bright side, because it is so easily detected by RDDs and it has a great on/off button electrical socket, it can be used to trigger a RDD so that the operator thinks their RDD unit is broken. just start cycling the V7 on and off near a RDD and watch the cop go nuts swiveling their head looking for the offending radar detector. makes my $14 investment worth every penny.

If there is one thing I got out of this video, it's not to trust the Amazon reviews. Clearly Amazon needs to get a handle on the review/feedback section of the website. And thanks for taking time to put this PSA out.

Interesting fact. I purchased one of these on wish for like $8 shipped a while back. The range was shit with the lottle sticky pad. I then rigged up an old gps mount to mount the detector higher. It almost tripped the range! It still falsed all the time but it went from completly useless to almost completly useless. I found it interesting that you mentioned the lack of a mute button. I personally added a switch to the speaker lead so I was able tl mute it. I really really wanted to make this detector work, but in the end I bought a better detector and gave this one to my father. Its really shitty even with work done to it.

It's not a radar detector, it's a box of torture. No mute button. Constant falses. No laser detection. Leaky as hell. No immunity. Crappy mount. Lol, I have never seen a radar detector this bad.

FYI...My wife places orders from Amazon for her business almost everyday. I spend several thousand dollars on Amazon every year myself. The ONE TIME that I called out Amazon on their FAKE reviews I was permanently banned for life. Repeat, for life from ever placing a review on Amazon ever again. No warning, no temporary ban. Nope, I went from a great customer to death sentence. You went way above and beyond what I did. Any repercussions for pointing out their fake reviews??? It seems to state a riddle before every band announcement... Does not seem possible to make a worse device. I can not imagine the development conversation going on while they worked on the circuit design (no physical product design, as they just ripped off Cobra's molds.)

maynardo it's actually detecting the chirp that even the new V1 is trying to now detect. It has precognition, so it knows there's radar even before radar knows there's radar. Ever watch Spider-Man? It's like that, " bordering on precognition." It knows the Leo is going to pull the trigger on an IO shot even before the LEO knows. It's just that good ! Oh, and it knew you were going to write that comment, even before you knew you were going to write it. It even knew @vortex was going to test it, so it shit down before he could get data. Plus, it worked because Vortex never got a ticket while using it.

Speaking of x band. I actually got hit with X band instant on yesterday. I was picking him up clocking cars ahead about 2 miles before I got to him. At first I thought this must be false alerts,but no,it was actually a county cop. I run my V1 with all bands on since x band around here is gone completely from store door openers. Glad I had it turned on, because I was moving on pretty good.

I have one of these, and a Whistler. I live in a fairly rural area, so theres not much falsing. But around town it does go off more. But so does the Whistler, and at the same areas. I cant tell any real difference between the two.

I can't really understand what it's saying before it says K band. It sounds like it's saying something about a detector signalling friend. I expect the speech prompts were written by someone who's first language wasn't English.

thanks for the review. this radar is all over the internet for cheap. i have an old whistler radar detector from back in 2000 that has voice and text and my whistler radar detector seems to work better than this one.

Hah Yeah that thing is quite wide, there's a bare mixer fed with a swept LO. There's literally no filtering, so that it can do X, K and Ku bands on the same front-end. I have measured it radiating on Ka-band quite detectably. Fun toys for RF experiments.

The K-Band falsing might be it reacting to anti-collision radar on higher end cars. As the first gen stuff for that was on the same 24.000GHz - 24.250GHz band as some police radars.

Had cheap radar detectors in the past that were poorly made they were setting probably themselves off as well? Did notice that the only time the Batman radar detector went off when the radar was pointed in the direction of its antenna, other than that it wouldn't sound an alert.

With this unit, I'd be afraid of the RF/Microwave emissions contained in the car as you drive, all that RF has to add up to the possibility of cancer someday....stay away from this trash. Thanks Mr. Vortex! Once again, you've done a great review. BTW, (a note for the very rural folks) I live in rural farm country Iowa, so using my ancient Cobra ESD9210 is perfect, all I care about is the occasional Ka alert. Out here in farm country, very few if any false alerts, so a basic unit is good. My old Cobra I bought nearly 20 yrs ago is still serving me well, saved many a ticket. If my Cobra shells out eventually, what "el-basic one would you recommend Mr. Vortex? Thanks in advance.

Made the mistake of purchasing without first doing my research... I see your review on there and have marked it helpful, however I've noticed that my unit must be slightly different. It really hasn't false alerted much (nowhere near the amount shown in the vid) and it says something different (but still very similar) when you turn it on. Cosmetically it looks the same only red? Not impressed with it by any means, but so far appears to be maybe a hair above garbage lol. At least whatever unit I have .....

Yeah it doesn't false in every area. I do find there's sometimes when it's quiet as well, but it's definitely light years different than other detectors.

Those weren't false alerts the device was pinging the city cctv cams and other radar/laser similar frequencies. Those cheap radar device don't filter out the other frequencies 🤓

Car mirrors in new cars use k band to detect proximity. That's why it probably falsing.

Testing it against police radar guns, while range is poor, it is able to detect them, you're right. I'm sure yours also lacks GPS, laser detection, FCC approval, and everything else I mentioned too though. :)
