I've been following you for about two months now and I just wanted to say that what I noticed (and love) about you is that when you speak, you speak so eloquently that your lips are easy to read. I was born with 80% hearing loss in both ears and though I wear hearing aids that help me function as "normally" as possible, I so appreciate people who speak in a way where it's easy to read their lips. It just makes watching you and listening to you 100 times better.

Or you could have said nothing and just not used it again. But no, you were (gasp!) honest. How very refreshing. Seriously Jen, you deserve all the success in the world because your channel is based on substance and morals, not shameless plugs, paid vacations, and discount codes.

Having spent some time after work today unwinding and watching beauty videos, I saw that you posted a new one and immediately felt relief. I know it has nothing to do with beauty and makeup, but I came to appreciate your eloquence, vocabulary and properly constructed sentences. My week has been extraordinarily stressful and I felt like I could stab someone with a fork if I heard one more "really really good", "I am shook", "natural, kind of like, look" and "very very nice". Thanks Jen, for being Jen, is all I am trying to say :D

I feel like benefit is in deep stagnation for at least 5 years now. They don’t come up with new things but exactly as you’ve said, they keep remaking this ridiculous little kits and their normal full size products are way too expensive for what they are worth. I feel like they are repackaging the same crap over and over again... they keep pushing ridiculous orange bronzers in cool packaging all the time. Wherever I’m in Sephora and I see benefit stand I just keep walking. They don’t excite me at all

Julie Day Lol I think I understand what you mean - you mean you feel like she should be a spokesperson for QVC? That’s really sweet & I think she would be great at that too. But I’m not so sure how authentic or unbiased those people are. Those people have to give a review of those products in order to obtain purchases from the public. Jen is just too authentic for QVC specifically, like she might find herself miserable if they ask her to sway her genuine feelings (and then she’d be faced with job loss) lolol. But she would be great in tv though - I agree wholeheartedly.

The benefit stick primer, in my opinion at least, is for an oily oily face. I've used it before and loved it but I didn't want to repurchase for the price. I used it on my whole face, but it does dry super quick if I remember correctly. I would have to do half my face, work quick, and then the other half of my face. And my makeup along with oil control would LAST ALL DAY. It was amazing. But now, my favorite primer for super oily skin is the No.7 brand, called Beautifully Matte. I think it's like $13 at target. SO IF YOU'RE OILY AF, this is a life saver ladies!!! :) you're welcome.

Here's the thing with the ratings at Ulta and Sephora... people are putting low and high ratings for reasons that don't even involve the products. If you read some of these reviews people are loving/hating it just because it is a certain brand or a certain collab, not because it is a good/bad product. That's a problem I see with the current rating systems. There are people who just do spam reviews, it really throws off any honest reviews good or bad and makes it really hard to find the real tea on any item. Another issue is that it's been proven that sites take away certain bad reviews to make the rating look better. It's almost like they are afraid of the real reviews of products. That's why I love people like Jen, Liv, and etc. Honest reviews every time!
@carriekup7 жыл бұрын
Megan Glisson I have also actually seen a number of reviews myself that were like 4 or 5 stars, saying they couldn't wait to try the item and they were so excited they just knew they were going to love it....but admittedly had never even tried it!!!!

Or they rate it poorly because it arrived late or damaged, or there were service issues with the company they ordered from.

Megan Glisson The Subculture palette is a perfect example of this. On Ulta *and* Sephora, it has 4.5-5 stars.........How??? KZbin drama aside, it's *bad*. Most people I know that have bought it returned it, (regardless of batch number) bc it was awful. A lot of the positive reveiws? "You need to know color theory." "It's not for everyone." "Take your time and tap off the excess, you'll be fine!" ....Over & over & over...Talk about spam lol

Reading the comments I noticed that most people applaud Jen for choosing not to use filters and some tell her to do what makes her happy or confident and I can see both sides. But what I personally appreciate is that she made the decision, completely of her own volition, to not use filters anymore. Not because people were accusing her or criticizing her for using them, but because she cares enough about her viewers that she doesn't want to add to the filtered, unrealistic content that we all see EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. She wants to be REAL with us. A+ Jen.

Usually the reason a mascara will smudge under my eyes is because I’m oily. So the ones I don’t use due to under eye smudging are: -L’Oréal voluminous original formula, waterproof is fine. -Urban Decay perversion, -Lash Princess (black & green tube) but I love the black & pink tube! -L’Oréal Lash Paradise in non waterproof formula😮 ❣️Maybelline Lash Discovery❣️ has been a tried n true for years.😊
@pattyosgood58217 жыл бұрын
Allyson Sixx have you tried Benefit they're real mascara? I've never had one smudge on me but that one did the other day. I don't know if it's because my eyes were watering or what. I do have very oily skin as well though. My eyelids aren't that oily anymore but the rest of my face is super oily.
@Vaguenoodle7 жыл бұрын
Urban Decay Perversion is *such* a disappointing product for me. I thought I'd finally found an Urban Decay product I didn't hate (and, in fact actually really liked- I don't have problems with flaking/smudging either but this mascara looks very nice), but I tried this in the sample size and jeez... I've literally never had a mascara that slopped out of the container but this one did. It legit did not feel safe to use. Maybe the full size doesn't have the same problem, or I got a bad product but there are only so many times I'll try a brand before I'd rather invest my money elsewhere and Urban Decay has reached the limit. Shit tier quality and high tier price means they're permanently cancelled for me.

Jen...I love you ❤️ I think that it’s very important that are deciding to not use the filters. I as a person on KZbin can appreciate the desire to want to. All I ever think is, “people will think I look terrible”, or “damn I wish I looked that good all the time”. There is so much pressure to look perfect and it’s so sad. I recently did a video on my channel about representing myself as an everyday realistic version of what 45 looks like. As much as I wish I looked younger, I’m just not going to try and be something I’m not. I’ve got wrinkles and I can’t afford Botox so I’ve got to work with what I’ve got.

Hi Jen! I’m actually a huge fan of the Say Flawless primer. It’s all in the application; it can be a lot of trouble but it’s so worth it!!! This is a primer you have to apply in sections meaning you draw it on, blend, and immediately follow with foundation. Once you’re all done with your foundation application you’ll set it with a powder and it will be water resistant. Like I said, a total pain to apply, but soooooo worth it!

Jen, you’re almost at 100k. Nice!

It's so nice to see videos like this because I read Ulta and Sephora reviews and most of the time I can tell that people are giving poor reviews because they used the product the wrong way, they don't understand the product, they expect too much out of the product etc. Especially with foundation, I see poor reviews and it's because people expect the product to fix their skin when they're not using a proper skin care routine or they want the product to do things it doesn't even claim to do, and that's just not logical. And those types of reviews aren't helpful because it's not the product it's the person. So this is really helpful because I know you know what you're doing and if a product is bad to you it's most likely bad in general.

Oh Jen I just love you and your honesty! Thank you for telling us about the filter! I saw that video and I thought about your skin and how good it looked, but then I also think that every time you do a live chat so don't feel discouraged. You don't need the filter to be beautiful. But I understand the pressure and the joy of looking your best. I do think you could continue to sporadically use filters if you want to but as a viewer I have to confess that it can be hard to grasp that what I see isn't real because my brain still tells me " yeah but you've seen it with your own two eyes, then it must be true" so doing the connection even though you know something is "filtered" is a task all in itself. If all youtubers had your level of honesty and morale I would want them to raise my kids😅! I do appreciate you skipping the filters from now on but I want you to know that if you change your mind about it you have every right to do so and no one should have a problem with it, you've earned my trust and respect and I always support you and sent people who are sick of the youtube gurus to your channel 😍😙 love rom sweden

Another reason why I love you. I put filters on all my photos all the time, infact my phone smooths skin out without even turning on the beauty filter, so to keep a record of my skin (pimple) progress, I shoot pics on an older phone. I don't mind if you use filters for what's up in makeup news, because that's a different feature on your channel, but yes filters in other random videos can be confusing. Keep on using the filter for WUIM, & just put a note there for your conscience (You don't need to!)

If you’re not reviewing products I don’t see the harm in using a filter. I think it’s great in videos like what you were doing.

Allyson Sixx She's better than me. I'd keep the filter and wouldn't tell but I love a woman who's confident enough to admit it. These other women know darn well they're using filters. Appreciate the honesty Jen.

Allyson Sixx I agree, add a disclaimer. I wish in rl I had a filter on some days. Jen I applaud your honestly.

Acuereus right?! That's the bonus benefit of learning how to edit, hahha, but I loved how honest she was about it.. whereas most would just say what foundation they're wearing, without saying anything about a filter. Most of us know that, more than likely, there's some type of 'help' going on, and as long as it's not a review where it's altering the appearance of something, then she should keep them! She likes them, and that's all that matters.

I'm so proud of you! Your first class & thanks for setting a great example for all the rest & also all the younger generation that might try to attain an impossible look that can't be duplicated. I speak for myself when I say I would much rather see the way things really look in real lightning. Besides your beautiful without it!❤😘

Love how honest you are. Girlfriend feel free to use filters it doesn’t make you a liar. You are beautiful without them but if it isn’t a review video it’s fine.

Loved the "mini-rant" on benefit, I've been thinking that for awhile and never heard anyone address it! So true though and i agree 100%!

Jen you're so adorable you don't need a filter. Really. Maybe the ones using a filter actually need one. Lol. But you don't. You have always been so honest w us so don't use a filter. You don't need it.

I didn't hate the Nars Audacious Mascara... maybe it was just because I had heard such negative reviews about it that I was expecting it to be terrible... but it was okay. I'm already really excited to see you on the West Coast!

Just recently, at a drugstore makeup haul, Jessica Braun mentioned the Revlon YouthFX Fill Concealer, and she said she liked it, because it didn't sink in her lines, so maybe that's the deal with this product. That it won't make you look old by creasing or sinking in the wrinkles and because it gives some luminosity. About Revlon mascaras, I totally agree, they just suck. Revlon I LOVE colorstay foundation for oily skin, and I do like their colorstay nail polish. But I think that's all I wear from revlon.

I personally don't mind you using a filter in videos where you're not wearing the makeup you're reviewing. (Btw you look great either way.) Also wanted to add that I totally agree with you about that Nars mascara! Everything you said it what I experienced. I hung on to it and tried it several times because I wanted to like it for how expensive it was, but it just made my lashes look like crap everytime! Wet, clumpy, non lengthened lashes. Ugh...not cool Nars.

benefit would come out with a lighter hoola bronzer but not a deeper one and refuse to extend shades which is so telling. whoever did the brow collection needs to do that to the rest of the brand.

Absolutely love your makeup in this video Jen, stunning and I adore the ND palette. 100% agree on the Toofaced products, it seems like they are great at packaging and looks but the actual product seems to be subpar. I also think the eyeliner wheel is a terrible idea (including the Mac eyeliner wheel thing?) There are just so many easier ways to apply liner and it over-complicates things.

Whew! I don’t have any of those products but now I will save money because of your great reviews on the good and bad products. I so enjoy watching your videos. And I think your filter decision is good. It lets us see the real person you are ! Looking forward to the next video 👏😀

Regarding stick primers, I do use them from time to time when I want sweat-resistant shine control but don't feel like using primer all over my face or wearing lots of powder. I much prefer the Smashbox stick primer to the Benefit one. With the Smashbox primer, I find that it does what is says on the box, it helps my makeup stay in place all day in 90 degree weather. I do not have oily skin, though, so it may not work as well on other skin types.
