“It was Fox. Doesn’t that explain everything?” It really really does.

Fox... Are you even surprised? Not only was this the time when Tom Rothman was bastardising the X-Men and screwing over other franchises and would-be hits over at their 20th Century studio, but Fox were making a living on outrage-bait and bad ideas. The Swan, The Chamber (which was before the mid 2000s, but did set the tone for what was to follow), This, it was just a shitshow.

Dang, That’s terrible. It’s bad when they’re trying to "damage" their reputation, But it’s worse when the network lies to the people.

Adoptee here. That entire $100k will have to go to therapy costs.
@frankreads86184 ай бұрын
I think the network's biggest misstep was turning an adoptee finding her biological father into a game show with challenges and eliminations and cash prizes. It's beyond tasteless, and I can't believe so many people signed off on it. Their second biggest misstep was the damn title. Hearing the voice actors in the ads trying to say "Who's Your Daddy?" In such heartfelt tones is extremely cringey. It's insane that they were surprised by the backlash.

Never seen anything about this show before thanks for introducing it. I do remember watching Swan as a young kid and obviously it screws your head up a bit. All those people are already attractive and are just dogged on, and here I am thinking I’m doomed in life because I wasn’t ever going to look anything close to them

It was actually revealed at the end of that show that it was all a ruse and was a way to increase awareness of low organ donation rates in that particular country, there's a great video by Joey Engelman that goes into more detail into about the show and how it came to be.

There was already a good version of this premise: Unsolved Mysteries. Among all the other topics they did was "Lost Loves", where they would try to reunite families that had been split up and other similar things.

There was another show Fox tried back around early 2003, called "Mr. Personality". It was basically "The Bachelorette", but the guys all wore masks, and at the end, the woman HAD to date whoever she found had the best personality, no matter their looks. But at least that concept wasn't morally reprehensible like this show's was, that show's was just stupid and lazy. I remember seeing promos during their part of the NASCAR season back then, and just wondering who in their right mind would green-light that garbage.

I don’t think most reality tv needed to exist. It’s cruel to the people who consume it, they need something more enriching to live fulfilling lives.

I think this could have worked if there were equal men and equal women for the show, neither knowing who their parent/child, and they're trying to figure who they're related to. If they guess who they're related to right out the gate, the duo get ten grand, if not they lose a bit of money for the next choice. It would make more sense for everyone to be there, not for monetary ick reasons, the money would be more of a bonus for the parent and child to use to reconnect.

When a child is given up for adoption. And then finally gets to meet the biological parents, for the first time years later. It can be very emotional and very intense moment for everyone involved. So to turn it into a bachelor rip-off. With names like who's your daddy, and who's your mummy. Just feels wrong and gross and mean spirited. And that's why everybody hated this.
