Worst Watches of 2023

2023 has given us some fantastic watch releases from many wonderful brands! However there have been a few releases Ive reviewed that have been memorable but not in a good way.
In my opinion these are the forgettable releases and reviews.

I agree on all these ! I'm happy to say I don't have any of them. I did actually have the Tissot Quartz PRX but Tissot seemed to have put a lot of effort into making sure the seconds hand didn't hit even one marker. Sold it after a week . As for the Casio ,it looks like something an 8 year old would design as part of a school project.

I hated the digital PRX when it first came out, but the 35mm with black dial is growing on me. If i suddenly find myself with an extra few bills, I might grab one and mod it to a negative display

I was really looking forward to the day when Formex would release a smaller Reef. Well, that finally happened and to say I was let down is an understatement. They only went from 42mm to 39.5mm and they kept the 22mm lug width! It looks so squat and funky. I really wanted them to go down to 38mm with a 20mm lug width. It's just way too close in size to the original.

I'm not necessarily on the same page with you about the Omega 300 Professional (really like that watch) but agree with you about the Black Bay (now on my wish-list thanks to you). I have the first generation 300 with black dial - AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. I also have the second generation 300 with blue dial (same gen that you reviewed) - and like it a lot, but it looks better under strong light so you can see the full sandwich dial. In everyday scenarios the first gen has better contrast and wearability.

I love Omega but he is absolutely right about the bezel action. I have AliExpress watches with better bezel action. A shame. That’s why I avoid the Omega divers and got a Speedmaster instead.

The Invicta bezel click would be easy enough to fix but I would aim more for a Pagani Design sub instead. Similar price but better materials and still easy enough to mod if need be❤ the rest of you list is spot on though. The prices Timex wants these days are getting a little crazy for what they are.

This is simply poor QC. The wire inside needs to be ground down to a smooth and rounded end. If this step is skipped, it is slightly too long and the edge binds like this. That this wasn't done points to it being assembled as quickly as possible in some factory assembly line. Likely with staff that needs more training.

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing while listening to each of these reviews the first time around - troubleshooting at work, packing up the apartment to move into the new house, driving to pick the girlfriend up to go to dinner, etc... Where the SMP falters (slightly) in bezel action, it more than makes up for it in movement winding action - esp against a BB58. The buttery smoothness of the winding action is par none at the sub $15k range (yes I am including the Sub in the range). The BB Kenissi movement on the other hand, is sandpaper gritty as hell. Movement feel, imo, is a much taller order of craftsmanship than bezel tactility.

This show is a good reminder that despite the hype train that helps feed us watch enthusiasts with excitement for that next watch to get, they aren’t all bangers every time! That LF20w was the biggest disappointment for me. When the rumours started circulating and those first images appeared online I was hyped! I was ready to buy it day 1 but I’m glad I waited for the reviews. It’s not expensive of course and it’s a great design but the execution made for such a let down. Looking forward to seeing your favourite watches of 2023 MWC!

I love that digital Tissot, to be honest. That it costs a lot more than a Casio isn't really the point; you might as well complain that an Omega costs more than a Pagani.

The G-Shock with the heart rate monitor was disappointing...hopefully we will see a standard G with MIP next year. @ 2:16 in the video, what watch is on wrist? Not sure if it is the studio lighting but it looked a lovely violet dial.

Another great one Russell! I can't fully agree with you on the Timex.... only because when you gave it away, I won it. That said, I'd never have bought it. (why couldn't I win the Spinnaker Spence? 😭). I agree with all your hot takes. I also have tried to like Omega, but just can't. They tend toward the dressy a bit too much and do way too much mixed brushed and polishing on bracelets for my taste (a polished center link is a terrible look, there I said it!). The Seamaster Railmaster in blue is intriguing (not enough to spend $3K though). All the best for you and your family in 2024!

Aw no my LF20W arrived yesterday and I'm pleased as punch with it! The LCD display on mine doesn't have the same fault as yours, though I admit it's a little bit fainter than if you view it at a slight angle. In practice when it's on the wrist, you do view it at a slight angle.

I bought a g shock gba800 for the step tracker and i wanted something mixed of analog and digital, The stepc tracker was veryyy sensitive and not accurate and the watch in my hand feels meh! 😕

All Valjoux 7750 with date complications need a date pusher. But paying 2000 in any currency for a Hamilton is stupid, plus that watch is fuggly.

Agree with your choices. Bummed that your Pro Diver was a dud. I have the 1953 version of the Pro Diver (that, in my mind, fixes all the problems with the 8926OB - no "INVICTA" carved into the case, no repetitive branding, no polished mid-links, no cyclops/mercedes-hands/coin-edge-bezel or other obvious attempts to look like the well-known versions of the submariner). Mine has the famous yellow rotor, an aligned bezel with wonderful action, and an NH35 keeping COSC-like time (i.e., within 5 seconds per week!)... to me, it's the poor man's BB58, not the Rolex-wanna-be of the 8926OB.

I bought what must have been one of the last 8926OBs with the yellow rotor - it has a slightly misaligned bezel and runs a bit slow but otherwise it's solid. I brushed the mid-links and case which adds to the tool watch look; the etching in the case is a lot more unobtrusive and even looks quite good imo - definitely worth doing!

The LF-20 is a great watch, it’s a bit of fun for £25 and the module has loads of features. The worst by far is the A1100, the module has virtually no features the buttons are awkward to press when you’re wearing it and if you get the black one with the green screen it has the worst display you’ll ever see on any watch, worse than the negative display on a casioak and they want to charge you £175 for the privilege. The only way it’s worth that is if Casio has found a way of making steel using gold as the main ingredient.

I own two Omegas with dive bezels no problem but if you can't get on with them why not a Speedy? As I recall the 300m you reviewed was a borrowed used from Watchfinder. Love Andrew and Tom's vids but the company doesn't have the greatest reputation.

I like the look of the digital PRX with the black, but I would never pay such money for a digital watch. If it was the price more akin to a G-Shock or other Casio's then I think it would've had a market. I got the Quartz PRX in Mint and was not disappointed at all. Looks great and gets more compliments than any of my other watches when out. Also it fits my wrist perfectly, like it was tailored almost. The colour is fantastic with the mint giving a more correct Tiffany colour (being more of a green than light blue). I was worried I'd be disappointed and it would just be over hyped, but I'm happy with it. The seconds hand not hitting the markers is the only thing I have against it, but it's not something I constantly look at or think about. The overpriced Timex rip off of Casio doesn't really surprise me at this point with them. Timex doesn't even sell it's cheap brass/base metal watches all that cheaply anymore and for the prices of their better watches that use stainless steel you're better off at looking at things like Pagani Design for the prices. I'm surprised at how bad your Invicta Pro Diver is. I got the black/gold version back in June and everything on it functions perfectly. I agree it would be nice to have some styling with the movement.

I was with you on the Omega hunt. But they have lost me in the last few years. My BB58 and my Oris Aquis upcycle get so much wrist time I can't now see a place in my collection for a modern Seamaster. I have a 1958 Seamaster

Same. Loving vintage Omega. Actually vintage in general. Smaller size, patina, birth of designs, more affordable price points, and sometimes sentimental or story value as well. I'd like to pick up a vintage datejust like a 1601 or 1603, and also pie plate constellation from Omega or an old seamaster but more in a dress style than a diver.

Vintage Omega walks all over modern Omega. Vintage Omega had soo many great designs back then. Modern Omega doesn't do a dam thing for me. The Flight Master, Soccer ⚽️ time chronograph, Big Triangle Seamaster, Chronostop Speedmaster Mark 2,3 and 4.5. Just one awesome design after another. Imop the brand is Night and day from back then

I picked up the small light blue automatic TRX this year and love it. I think it’s cool that it comes in a lot of colors so I’ve got no complaints, a jeweler tried to sell me on the digital version while I had a Casio on my wrist and I laughed. Agreed on that one. Ridiculous choice on their part.

Fair enough, you had good reasons for all the choices! You should have spent a bit more and got an Invicta 1953, mine was £97 from Amazon, has a yellow rotor and very good crown and bezel operation.

I agree with you Sam, he has that totally wrong IMHO, but of course he is entitled to his own opinion. I think the post 2021 release of the Heritage is one of the best divers you can buy. What sets it apart is that it has the awesome, twin barrel 8900 movement in it, a display case back to admire it through. It's slimmer than the previous model at 13.9mm including the domed crystal, micro adjustment on the nicely tapered bracelet, it oozes class and is a total bargain on the used market. It completely outclasses the Tudor which he loves and I really dislike for too many reasons to type here. Lucky we all have such different opinions really, else we'd all be wearing the same watch!

I defend your right to dislike the PRX digitial. I certainly wasn't asking for it, but when I saw it, I loved it on first sight. The mismatched fonts, the combination of rectangles and circles, the high polished bezel that you can see up your own nose, the fact it says 1853 on the dial of a digital watch. It's so hideous. Needless to say, I own the gold PRX digital in 35mm and I love it because I'm amazing.

To be ... not exactly fair to Invicta, when you buy one, you're buying a half-finished watch. It *will* require repairs to make it perform, but it can be made to be good.

Casio sometimes puts out some HORRENDOUS colors and color combinations. As of Casio Design AI gets a bit wonky in its brain and there is no manual check afterwards.

Agree on the size of the Hamilton with the bracelet, although the leather strap wears a lot smaller. Nothing really wrong with looking like a Daytona, kind of the only Rolex I really like ;-)

The mini Duro. I say this as an unashamed Casio fan, but the smaller version was a big letdown. All they would've had to do is make the Duro 38-40mm, keep the same specs & it would've sold like hotcakes. 36mm Diam w/16mm lug width? 50M WR? (Casio often does better than what they spec though) Press on case back Push pull crown Uggghhhh.... Come on Casio.

I love my Invicta Pro Diver. Mine has the yellow rotor. But yeah, try turning the scalloped bezel - you can't. The Gshock is Ugly. Glad I did not get the PRX. I got a Berny Titanium dressy watch - T2567MS 100meter with Ti band. Beautiful.

I Had a 9937ob Pro-Diver..(got burgled recently ..lost ALL my Watches apart from the cheap D&G one on MY wrist 😢) it cost £200-ish (lower but im brain-dead tbh) had a Sellita SW200-1.. Partially "milled" clasp.. fully solid link bracelet, their BS "Sapphire" crystal (probably not sapphire lol) "Flame Fusion) likkle bitty of Sapphire whacked on top of mineral i think l . But it's SUPPOSED to be a "upgrade" Methinks.. errrrrrrrrr... Oh Yeah! Case Depth!.. 12mm.. so thinner than the Cheapo one and has smaller engraving I THINK?. The quality control I THINK might be more stringent cos mines was flawless tbh.. bezel action was a Fantastic Click ❤.. The Lume i was told is a upgraded one... BUT...looked like standard crappy Invicta Lume to me tbh STILL... I'm saving to buy another!!... Best sub £200 watch I've had for a long time anyway.. an' I kinda like that engraving.. kinda reminds me of Blancpain!. 😊

Totally agreed on the Omega!! In my opinion with the price hikes both the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M and Omega Seamaster 300 are just 💩 Not to mention they have absolutely no value retention at all! I’d suggest looking into the neo vintage ones like Omega Pete Blake, much better than all the ones nowadays!
