Nice to see a YTer have opinions that are not total matches to what everyone else is saying. I'm amazed how often I don't agree with most YTers on their opinions and when so many say the same thing about a bottle, you have to wonder if they really have an honest opinion or are they just trying to gain viewers by agreeing with others that have a great reputation for their knowledge of whiskey. Also, its all opinion. We all have a difference in tasting. To disagree with someone else's opinion and say they are wrong is just nonsensical.

Agreed on the Traveler. I don't mind it, but it's best as a mixer for me. I have, however, found it's a great way to introduce people to whiskey precisely because it's relatively mild, and the Stapleton tie-in makes it of interest.

As soon as I saw the title of this, Traveller was what I immediately had in mind. It was a sink pour for me. I haven't cracked my Knob Creek BourRye yet, so that's disappointing. Glad you saved some me some money on a few of these. I was looking for an EC Toasted Rye, so I'll avoid. I'm not sure how Bulliet BS is overrated, it's not really highly rated anywhere outside of some dumb Uproxx articles. Most people think of Bulleit as a well liquor perfect for cocktails, and the BS fits that need for a higher proof mixer. As far as Holladay is concerned. This is the biggest OVERHYPED distillery of the year. Simple, lacking depth and complexity, overly sweet, and basic are the notes on every one of their releases. If you want to drink the OG bazooka bubble gum in wax wrappers, that's Holladay for you.

The only one I can say anything contrary to the opinion shared is the Elijah Craig Toasted Rye. While it isn’t complex, I find it’s enjoyable and interesting. Maybe a little overpriced at 55 but being difficult to find admittedly added to the willingness to pay it. I’m coming to find that most of these twice barreled juices is that they have unique flavors but they lack complexity. I guess I would put it in the same category as WRDO and OF1910, but just the better of the three. Now RD1 has a double oak that a local retailer picked, and it’s fantastic and complex.

I thankfully don’t get the bitter notes on the Heart Release. I’m usually a $40-50 bottle kind of guy, so i splurged a bit on buying the heart. Way more heat than I am used to as well, so maybe that masks it.. but overall I like it. I get a LOT of the chocolate on the finish and find that I taste it most if I get the whiskey under my tongue? What month is your Heart release? Look on the side label. Betting it's April, like mine. Friends are June and theirs are delicious. Mine (April) is not. The last get together we had some great bottles out. New Riff 8 stole the show. It was unanimous. You can't compare wheated to it as the wheated is softer. You have to go past the BiB, which I didn't know the 8 was. NR has a standard BiB. I go for the SiB's including th vet pick. MM46 CS is hit or miss depending on my palate that day. You have to appreciate it for what it is, else it can be offputting. BT dummies are the ones who fell for the non-BT Traveler. The rest of us did not. I have all 3 of the HH GTGs. I like the rye. The wheated (red label) is the best tasting of the 3. Pikesville is among my fav ryes. It's Maryland style (high corn), just like Rare Breed and RR ryes. I think WT101 is straight rye and it goes down fast.
