Although I knew from the first couple of photos that, B was Contax because, it was a bit sharper than the Canon, none the less, in at least one comparison, at 9:43, the Canon appears to be the sharper camera. Also, the colour saturation from the Canon often made its pictures more appealing, especially for a place like California. Great video!

The difference I noticed was the exposure and the coatings on the contax glass. Saying that, some shots I preferred on the sure shot. Cool comparison.

I'm really surprised because all the way I thought camera B was the Canon. But like I always say: the Contax is 20 times more expensive than the Canon. But is it 20 times sharper? 20 times better at exposure (over the length of a roll)? That's essentially where the rubber hits the road. If I can find a camera that gets me 80% of the way to Contax quality without being 80% of the price, I'll be very happy.
@aaronalbores399916 күн бұрын
There's something called "law of diminishing returns", and basically means that, in order to improve a product by small amounts, you have to spend increasingly more money. So no, it's not 20 times better. But there are so many more things to take into consideration when pricing those cameras

The Zeiss lens always tends to have better contrast and colors so it was pretty easy to tell. As far as best bang for the Buck its going to be a Contax TVS. I picked one up this summer and was blown away by the results. It's very sharp and the colors are geat out of the Zeiss zoom on it. They go for $200-300 and it is very worth it.

There is a bit of a difference in terms of exposure and sharpness but usually it’s not super significant if a difference to necessarily warrant the cost. I think where the price difference makes more sense is in the amount of manual control and features you get. That’s where it starts to add up, outside of the obvious like build materials etc.

Although the Contax obviously performed better my absolute favourite shot out of the whole suite is at 9:54 and the canon shot (A) beats contax's (B) by a country mile. The contrast is far better, focus seems better as it looks far sharper too and the colours also just seem more pleasing from the canon shot. Anwyays great video!

I own a SureShot Max and totally thought it was camera B. I could only see the difference in the lower-light shots. The lower-light shots had more color fringing and appeared less sharp on camera B in my opinion. The bright, full-light day shots they were virtually indistinguishable. I haven't shot my SureShot Max in a while (I've been opting more for my Miju Zoom), but this video is making me re-think that decision! Thanks for the comparison, and thanks for sharing some GORGEOUS images of the Bay Area!

On my camera f3.5 is only a half stop from 2.8. Cam A seems to control flare better while cam B has better contrast. Cam B also seems a bit wider, and finally, the correct exposure doesn't always give the best photo.. Past that, it's all about user experience. Nicely done !

What most people don't realise is that most cheap cameras of the time, like the cannon would have had only three shutter speeds say 1/50 for low light and flash 1/125 for medium light and finally say 1/800 for harsh light. So that at f3.5 aperture would cover most situations incorporating the wide latitude colour negative iso 400 film. We're as the contax would have a stepless shutter speed from say 1 second to 1/1000s.😮 so if you tried same test with a slide film and the contax would win hands down. Just my thoughts, and great video thanks.

I bought the Contax in the 90'th as second smaller camera in case I don't want to carry the big Nikon SLR. I was using exclusively slide film and wasn't convinced with the exposure and quality of point&shoot cameras. With a good projector, slides from the not so good lenses couldn't be used together with the SLR slides. They just looked like out of focus. Slides from the Contax where matching the quality of the SLR. I still have it but didn't used it for the last 20 years. I also saved a Jashica T4 from the garbage short before the end of analog era. This is much smaller, less expensive and also capable to match the SLR.

I own both cameras. i’ve had my T2 for 12 years and my Sure Shot for around four. the Canon is undoubtably a sharp little camera but what it lacks in control and reliability is what you’d want a Contax T2. keep in mind. I paid $280 12 years ago for my T2 and it coined the “dumbest purchase you’ve ever made” by everyone around me, none the less the T2 popularity exploded but regardless of all that you’re able to take (almost) complete control of your settings and really make the photo you want to get. it’s always worth mentioning that the T2 is not a sure shot (no pun intended) hall pass. I found it to be a difficult camera to use until I was really able to dial it in, and although it can take direction it doesn’t always follow the rules. the AF on the Canon is snappy and you will make some great photos, but you’re basically handicapped with everything besides film speed. the question isn’t really what camera is better. but how each person uses it. I believe the T2 was $300 brand new when it premiered, so comparing it to the Canon on price point alone doesn’t make sense. to me and the scans i’ve received and the photos i’ve printed, the T2’s wow factor is in the sharpness of the lens and that’s pretty hard to tell over this video. all in all, find what works for you and a photo is only as good as it makes you feel: cool video!

It's hard being a photographer when you live somewhere that's not beautiful or lively. I'm in the southeast. Pinetrees, no horizons, suburban homegenity, urban decay in the cities, dead small towns. We older photographers will tell you that the composition of both lenses is virtually the same, going back many years and they are a slight variation on the Zeiss Tessar lens, which is found on the Zeiss Ikon Contessa and other similar cameras from many years ago. That lens formula isn’t fast but it is very sharp and is suited to rangefinder flange distances, which P&S lenses use. In most P&S cameras of that era, the main difference in lenses was in the coatings on the lens. In fact, the "T Star" trademark for Contax lenses in their P&S line referred to the coating. The lenses in the Yashica P&S cameras were identical to the Contax P&S lenses except for the coating.
@DirtRated18 күн бұрын
The Canon had some flairs/haze that honestly add more character to the shots. That under exposed sunset photo might have been just the result of not being able to stop down to 2.8. I thought I'd notice a difference in sharpness, but I couldn't. Can you run some 100 ISO positive film through each? That will really test each camera's exposure and sharpness capabilities.
@ThatSmallsGuy16 күн бұрын
I’ve had both and have to agree I was enjoying the results of the Canon more. The things I hated about the Contax was how often it would miss focus, you can’t manually set the aperture to shoot at f2.8 and how small the viewfinder is. The viewfinder made the shooting experience suck for me. Maybe it’s just me and I need an eye test 😅 However the T2 does produce a unique look under certain light conditions. Great video dude

I preferred the higher contrast (which also translated as more sharpness to me) of Camera A almost across the board. Interesting how much more shadow detail Camera B had without totally blowing out the highlights. I preferred the colour rendition of the A, I thought B was over exposing (something I’ve found with cheaper point and shoots). I got totally fooled. Although I preferred the canon shots overall (even the under exposed sunset shots) the contax will definitely give you denser negatives to work with when darkroom printing, which will offer you way more flexibility if that’s something you end up doing with your shots (as I do). I suppose the choice would come down to whether your goal is to make work printed in this way, in which case the Contax is the way to go, but if you’re going to exclusively edit/print your work digitally then you could definitely save the money and go with the Canon. I’m off to eBay now before that Canon price ramps up.

I think the majority of the differences here were exposure, and the Canon seems to have consistently had more accurate exposure, or at least a more pleasing balance. @barclayjb18 күн бұрын
I correctly picked the Contax. I do like those photos better. But honestly, the biggest difference would be emotionally in my head as I am taking the pictures, if I think I have an excellent camera, I will enjoy the shooting experience more. If I felt the Canon was giving me excellent (or totally acceptable) results, I would have equal enjoyment. The definition of quality isn't "the best", quality is really meeting purpose and expectations.
@headwerknКүн бұрын
I preferred more of the 'A' shots, honestly - contrasty, great colours. Any sharpness difference was pretty minor. The Contax seemed to err on overexposing some of the more high contrast scenes. I know that's a very popular look esp. with Portra 400 in the Californian sun (!) but whether I'd call it 'accurate' is another matter. Comes down to personal taste. Yes, better focussing and exposure control is what the T2 and other 'lux' P&Ss are all about, but for the price difference over a $20-$50 Canon, Minolta etc. it really makes no logical sense. Especially given their fragility and difficulty of repair. If you want a super compact point and shoot style camera with control, get an Olympus XA... yes it's a rangefinder, but the focussing range is so short you'll be zone focussing at 3m+ 80% of the time anyway. If you want real quality and the choice between full auto, full manual and everything in between in a pretty compact package, get a entry level 1990s Canon EOS (300, 3000 etc) and pair it with a 40mm f2.8 STM lens. The image IQ, AF performance, metering and viewfinder are far beyond anything the T2 or any other P&S can achieve... and you can replace the body 10x over should the electronics die. And if actual build quality and feel matter, get a late 70s/early 80s Nikon, which are infinitesimally more substantial than any plastic filled titanium shell.

Also the Contax T2 is notorious for bricking, my repair tech (Deans camera repair in Torrance) said not to touch any of the high end p&s cameras like the Contaxes, Leica Miniluxes, Nikon 35ti, Fuji Klasse as they all are ticking time bombs ready to brick. He has a whole stack of dead ones in his shop. Better to spend $50 on a p&s that works almost as well that if it bricks, you are only out $50 vs $1000 when your Contax bricks.

I'm truly astonished, but I always thought the Canon was punching above its weight in terms of how cheap and plastic it felt to hold, compared to the images it produced So the moral of this tale is better, more expensive gear, doesn't always mean it will produce better images, and that is the exact mantra I follow.😊

At 7:08 and before it felt like B was ever so slightly off but at 7:51 (to me) B did the better job with exposure (but we are talking such minor differences you wouldn't notice without playing spot the difference). I think A, up to 7:51, is slightly sharper. However, I am again playing spot the difference and it only stands out to me on my gaming 4k ultrawide, when I through it on the secondary generic monitor I couldn't notice the difference if I tired. TL;DR guess I am might be shopping for that canon cause there is no way the difference is so big I could justify the price Edit: at 8:37 I think A is the cannon. I had a Contax T and that flare not look characteristic of my experience or maybe I am just talking nonsense

Definitely surprised. Made me want to get more out of my Yashica T2 rather than buy another one 😂

Another banger. Inspired me to dust off my T2 and get out and shoot.

The quality difference is obvious. Contax pictures are sharper and have better contrast. Much more pleasing to the eyes.

Assume that the T2 was on Aperture priority mode to make it “fair”?

On youtube both were fine. KZbin always does compress the hell out of things so... they were fine.
