For those who cannot decide to get which one of these (I mean, if you can and want. Both of them are backordered now and you need to pay extra for ready stock) The biggest advantage of the Ricoh GR is that it has a lens that contracts which will make the camera easily fit in you jeans pocket, while the Fuji won't but look classic and stylish. And as far as I can tell GR will produce sharper image than the 26MP X100V, one friend of mine got his X100IV and says even tough it's a 40MP sensor, the lens is not changed or updated and it cannot satisfy the high res sensor. But Fujifilm is like an Apple product since it works out of the box and it has much more filters (or film simulations, whatever) while the Ricoh GR literally only features 3 unique filters, namely Negative, Positive and Hi Contrast BW. Of course you can work out more filters base on the original ones, as Becca already showed you in the video. But that takes about 30 min to several hours to search for recipes on youtube or reddit and tweak the settings, depends on whether you are familiar with camera gears. I was a Fujifilm user and I switched to Ricoh and I'm more than happy with it, since I can just tuck it in my pocket and capture anything interesting I see in my day, sliently and blazing fast. Hope my experience and insights will help, cheers to Becca and those who read to the last line. :)

I rented the GR3x and the x100v for my '1 Place 1 Camera' series and I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the Ricoh's pics when I got them into Lightroom. I was NOT expecting such high quality from that thing. That said, I much preferred the experience of shooting with the Fuji. The Fuji's viewfinder made for the most enjoyable experience I've had with any digital camera. And seeing a little preview of the pictures with a pleasing film recipe right after taking them made it inspiring to take more. I'd love to buy an x100vi someday if I win the lottery 😂

I had a chance to shoot with the GRIIIX for a few hours. I was not expecting the vibrant colors and the sharp images I got. I am a former Fuji shooter and the Ricoh colors OOC looked much better. The lens is insanely sharp too. I have shot with Fuji X100 variants in the past and did not like the experience at all. I might be in a minority here but for stealth street photography, GRIIIX is the clear winner.

I've been a huge fan of Ricohs since the GRIII release and have collected other versions purely of the joy in brings in capturing images. I'm curious about the Fuji, it's a beautiful piece of hardware with a different shooting experience. Some hopes in their popularity: that they become available, that competition inspires other camera makers to throw their hat in this form factor.

I recently picked up a X100VI to replace my GRIIIx. But after shooting with the Fuji, I can’t get myself to let go of the GRIIIx. The X100VI brings on an air of occasion every time you use it, while the GRIIIx is all about going undercover (like Becca mentioned) and getting surprised with that shot you never thought you’d get. Even if the end picture may be similar in quality, the shooting experience is not something that can be replicated with one another imo. Also one other thing to mention is that the GRIIIx is TACK SHARP. The 23mm F/2 lens in the Fuji produces softer images by quite a bit. I always find myself reducing clarity quite a bit when I’m editing photos from the Ricoh hahaha

@@alexlubinski7795 I am not sure... But I've been solely shooting in RAW without any of the film simulations. I just think it might be naturally sharp? I don't think it looks artificial at all. Own the GRIIIx, and the best feature: size. After getting it, I never use my smart phone camera anymore because not only does it take better photos, but it's actually easy and convenient to carry around. The X100's are great cameras, and the weather proofing is a great feature, but it's definitely not a "pocketable" camera as a lot of commenters mentioned. I definitely agree with everything Becca said, though I do wish the video capture was a bit better. I never planned to use the camera for video, but when other cameras like the Sony RX100 are smaller (it's more compact than the GR), have an articulate screen, a flash, viewfinder, and can shoot 4K video, it does seem lacking. But that being said, I don't worry about "breaking" a GR, whereas with the RX, because of all the mechanical doohickeys, I would be a bit more hesitant to just cram it in my bag or pocket, which is a pretty convenient tradeoff.

If the lens is made for the sensor size is it really a cropped sensor camera? If it is what makes "full frame" not cropped compared to medium format or even large format? 35 mm is tiny compared to 6x7 film
@sentimentalhermit9 ай бұрын
@@ErikN1 Come on, we all know that the term "cropped sensor" just refers to being smaller than 35mm film. 35mm film is considered the standard because it's the format that spread and became most commonly used in the film industry as well as in consumer products. Sure, 35mm film is small compared to 6x7. Medium format 6x7 is small compared to "large format" 8x10, and that's small compared to "ultra large format" 20x24 plates
@ChristopherEustaquio9 ай бұрын

@ErikN19 ай бұрын
@@sentimentalhermit Yes we know that but I don't think it makes sense to use the term cropped sensor when nothing is being cropped. It made sense back when digital cameras were new and had smaller sensors but used the same lenses that 35 mm film cameras did. You did actually get a cropped frame compared to what you were used to and what the lenses were designed for. I don't think it makes sense anymore. 35 mm isn't the gold standard it used to be and even at the end of the glory days for film, medium format was still the gold standard for professional studio and commercial work.

@@LonJuanLatino As I’m sure you know the focal length of the GR111 is 28mm so it’s very wide. It was great in London and for wide architectural shots but I think I had to work quite hard to frame people. Then as soon as I looked through the GR111x the 40mm framing felt more comfortable certainly in terms of portraits. Essentially they are pretty much the same camera. Great comparison. Thanks, Becca! I'm in the very fortunate position where I have an X100VI and my wife just got a GR IIIx. Honestly, I love them both, but I probably prefer the 40mm equivalent on the Ricoh as I'm traditionally more of a 50mm shooter. I had the X100V previously (as well a few other Fujifilm cameras), so I'm familiar with it, but I'm also really enjoying shooting with the Ricoh. It truly is the perfect camera to take absolutely everywhere with you, and my wife does exactly that. I know the X100 line is also kind of that, but it was never quite as easy to take everywhere (at least for me) as many people made it out to be. It might fit in a loose jacket pocket, but I found myself either always carrying it with a wrist strap or having it over my shoulder with a regular strap, whereas the Ricoh could comfortably fit in a jeans pocket. It's convenient, but nothing like the Ricoh in that regard. It depends what you're shooting, I guess, but I can definitely agree that the image quality on the Ricoh is incredible. It's way better than I expected it to be, and I've heard people praising it for years. The image quality on the X100VI is incredible, too. At this point, you can just choose which suits your lifestyle best, and you'll win either way.

Such a great video and comparison. Reggie is awesome at providing tutorials and great to hear he got a shout out. Been on the fence on purchasing the 100vi since I have a xt30 with the f2 23mm. The fact that it has IS and a built in ND filter makes me want to place an order.

@BeccaFarsace You are the best Becca. I enjoy and appreciate your content so much - and all aspects of what makes a Becca video a Becca video. Keep it up. Thanks a million!

The GR family is amazing for light traveling. Shooting it in Italy now.

Cool comparison, but I can't believe there's no mention of Ricoh's sensor dust problems. I love this camera, so very sad to say this is a deal breaker. I had total of 3 different GRs - all developed sensor dust problems within 3-4 months of regular use.

I have a X100s and an XT30 (is smaller than the X100 series) with Fuji 18mm f/2 and Fuji 27mm f/2.8 and the Samyang 12mm f/2 (and a closet full of vintage glass). I love the looks and the dials on the Fuji's and I wanted to shoot more and spend less time behind a computer monitor editing RAW photos, so 99% of the time i shoot SOOC JPGs with the wonderful Fujifilm film simulations and recipes. I mostly shoot documentary style work, some travel, loads of street and some architecture. My experience is that as long as your not hauling big DSLR's with you with large lenses, people don't seem to notice you or ignore you like you are a tourist and they'll go about their business. Yes, even with a Fuji X- series cameras. So in worse case scenario you might not be stealthy with your shiny Fuji, but you're at least undercover! ;) The Ricoh GRIII(x) has been on my radar since it launched. But I think i'll fork out the money for the GRIV if that has weather sealing (if it will ever come out...).

Yo, I have a Google Alert set up for "Ricoh GR IV”, so this is the don’t-call-it-a-review video I needed! Thanks Becca!

I just got a Fujifilm XT30 II and it is a game changer for myself. Absolutely loyal to fujifilm at this point. Great work to Becca and all the b.t.s crew !

As someone who bought the Ricoh GRiiix because of the lack of supply in the x100v I don’t regret my choice at all, it was my first camera other than my phone and it forced me to learn quickly about photography, personally I love to tinker so changing settings was fine; there were plenty of resources online. It’s took a hot minute to set up the way I liked. The shots I get are great and my friends and surprised by how crisp and sharp they are. If I had to pick a fixed lenses camera it’d be this. The Fuji is a great choice but I think for $1600 I’d rather pick up another Fuji with an interchangeable lens.

Loves all your videos! However please help me decide between ricoh gr iii and fujifilm xm5!! In terms of compact, i think both are quite small. But which one is better for beginner like me? Deep down i’m a fan of fujifilm but after seeing many talks about ricoh, i seem to like it 😅

Got a x100vi last week in New Zealand. Backorders are big. I got lucky with a little shop in my town. I like the full camera and analog experience and this cam is the closest thing.

There are also camera recipes in Fuji.. So I wonder how similar they are to Ricoh's.. it's a little tricky, but you can custom load these recipes into the cam.

The most important part about photography is getting that shot. This means availability is key. For me this is why I got the Ricoh. It's a camera that you can easily take with you, thus basically increasing the opportunity for great shots.

How does the iPhone 15 Pro compare to the GR3x? Seems like the phone would do an even better job of being your everyday camera, despite the difference in image quality…

Great and fair review, thank you! Both cameras are fantastic! Got the Fuji, but once the GR4 is out there, I will buy that one as well!

Love that beginning comparison of the color matching of the 2 cameras. Love to see it. I am looking into getting the Ricoh since it fits how I like to already shoot. Granted it shoot on little papershoot camera which you can’t see anything till you view them on your phone or computer

I remember getting my GRII in 2015 for like… $600? Lightly used. I miss when this category felt like an experiment.

Exactly! These cameras are somehow extremely popular and also… really boring? Wish Canon especially hadn’t abandoned it in favor of RF Mount lawsuits.
