To go with GT40 heads or aftermarket depends upon your budget. When I was in High school auto shop, one of my buddies was trying to save up $1500 for heads and cam on a minimum wadge job as his 90GT already had a full intake and full exhaust. As a teenager, a nice set of cylinder heads seemed like a big investment, and the GT40s would have been a viable option. As an adult who has more money to invest in a toy, I would opt for better heads.

Man talk about lack of transparency here. That's so clearly a dynamic graph that shows a car with tired worn out valvesprings. That's precisely why it's cutting out. Not to mention who brings a car to a dyno without fresh plugs and just a good tune up? And those colors regularly make 280 wheel without much work

50Tussin runs GT40 heads on almost all of his foxbodies. He has done videos in the junkyard that looked at various Explorers that had the GT40 heads and intake. You could take the heads intake and even the lower rear end gears out of an explorer and walk out of the junkyard for not alot of money.

I think a trip back with it running healthy is a must video. The car obviously isn't going to dyno well if it isn't running well. It would be nice to see what it can actually out down and not just a speculation range because this combo has been done 1000 times. That's the point of making current content.

@@ricksanchez5696 agreed. This channel is just "ok". He's entertaining and all the fox content is great, but it's kind of all over the place, you don't really get a lot of answers or follow ups and you never see a reply. The other 2 big fox channels offers all of those. We'll probably never see a follow up on this car honestly.

So here is the thing a lot of people are starting to run into with foxbodies…. Parts are NOT CHEAP anymore….. my combo makes over 370rwhp out of a 306, I have ported victor jrs, a ported systemax, and High rev dual valve springs, Ed Curtis .600+ lift custom grind cam… most of my parts are over 20 years old, the top end alone would cost Over 5k to replicate in today’s dollars…. The cars are expensive, the parts are expensive , and the cheaper/ budget parts are not going to do the trick…. You absolutely have to be above 300rwhp to begin to start having enough power to hang with these newer cars… A lot of guys have the money to throw at them, and buy all the fancy parts… but it’s just HARD to do nowadays on a budget!! As soon as I heard that car had 40p heads, I knew it most likely wouldn’t make over 240rwhp.

No doubt, I didn’t say it was impossible, just not like the old days where you could easily slap a cheap fast combo together. Everything is more expensive these days, and that changes the way people feel about “Bang for their Buck” I LOVE Foxbodys, but if I didn’t own mine I’d just start with a newer faster platform, you can literally buy a 12 second 2012 5.0 GT for what a decent Foxbody is going to cost now.
@midnight347
@midnight347 2 жыл бұрын
It should def be doing more. 260-280 shouldn't be an issue with a setup like this it has an issue that is causing power loss. You seem to have a solid comb 370 is very respectable out of a 306 but you can easily make 300 or better with a budget hci setup and fbo with say a ported explorer head and intake Combo with a decent cam.
@cf88gt
@cf88gt 2 жыл бұрын
@@midnight347 I’ve built dozens of combos, I’ve seen it all… I made 297 at the in 1999 with aluminum heads, a cobra intake and a b cam….300 at then tire used to be the gold standard an easy combo , I made 325 and trapped 116mph in 2004 with afr 165s, a custom grind, and a performer 2 intake… gt40p heads just don’t make power… a gt40p head ported by big dogs or someone like that, and a fully ported explorer intake, with the right cam, on the perfect day can make 300…. I have NEVER seen a gt40p headed car make an impressive number… I not saying it can’t sound good, and be fun to drive… but people have to be realistic and no what to expect…. 280-300 at the tire is a HUGE goal, that MOST , not all, but most combos will not accomplish without a solid head and at least a longer runner style intake…. You can do it on a cobra/gt40 but it will be hard.

The sn95 5.0 Dyno runs I've seen have been down in the 175hp range and the GT had the bigger fox cobra maf. I think the only other difference is that gooseneck on the intake and a more powerful ECU. One of the coolest diy mods I've seen was a video where a guy put a micro switch on his throttle (it was an old Mopar but doesn't matter) that when it was at WOT it shut the alternator off so it caused no load on the engine by grounding the regulator or whatever. But being only at wot there's no voltage problems, great idea imo.

Had a similar issue on my car. Anything over 3k RpM would have the car fall on its face feel like it was misfiring at higher RPM. Pulled my hair out for a year chasing it thinking it was fuel. Ended up being the crappy Accel coil. Swapped it out and it ran beautifully after that.

If Im wanting more power on the street then getting higher numbers in lower rpms is more important to me than at higher. Im just asking/saying that this combo may feel better than the numbers show if it starts making power earlier than the stock heads. I have a set of GT 40 3 bars that Im hoping to get on mine soon.

Dude similar combos make close to 300 all day long there is clearly something wrong with the car. You can make well above 300 to the tire with a good setup on a stock bottom end low compression 5 liter. This car is clearly down on power because something is wrong. There's plenty of ways to make power with a ford there is absolutely no need for an ls anywhere near a mustang.
