Tyler and I go through the process of changing this 2023 GasGas EX300 TPI motor to a carbureted version of itself. This is an extensive process and costs around 2 thousand dollars give or take. The main reason we did this was to make the most unique bike possible. GasGas (while owned by KTM) never had a carbureted 300 two stroke, so this is a unicorn of a bike in every way.
This is the biggest sweepstakes I have ever done. Every part of this GasGas has been upgraded. Tyler from @enduro_builds on IG built this beast. We spared no expense and will do a full video on the bike soon. It's the grand prize and there is over 25K into this bike not including any labor.
The runner up for the March Sweepstakes will get the 2023 Yamaha YZ450FX, which is a beast in its own right. What sort of world do we live in when a brand new 450 is the consolation prize?
28 other have already won dirt bikes. Here is how you can enter?

Something not mentioned is that the carb bikes have more hit overall. It’s pretty common knowledge that’s the tpi is a bit tame compared to the carb. A big deal for a lot of riders. Carb bikes are still more sought after in my opinion. Sweet bike!

I HAD a 22 gasgas ec300. This would have saved that bike for me! I've had alot of bikes over the last 45 years, and I have to say, this was THE WORST running bike I've ever owned! FI has worked perfect on the 4st bikes, but not this one for me. I got maybe 10 good miles of riding out of it total. So, this carb conversion is not so out of the realm in the real world! I loved the way the bike looked, it just wouldn't run right to save its life. Mark.

Not really. Doing all that you mentioned would cost more than the carb conversion and you still wouldn't have estart, larger capacity tank and kickstand.

The tunability is reason enough to convert to carb. Being able to tune on the fly with a 3$ jet vs having to have a company give you some tune they made.

If you are talking TPI vs stock Mikuni especially with the gasket failures, sure TPI all day long, but compared to a lectron or smart carb, I really don't see the advantage for an average rider or even amature racer. I hear the new TBI's can outperform the carbs (finally) but if you don't need the extra few HP's why take a hit on fuel capacity, weight and extra failure points? Kind of a moot point now that you don't have a choice if you want a new KTM family bike, but still. Is it worth $2k on top of buying a new bike ehh probably not for me, but if you blew an engine I would try to do this instead.

@RwP223
@RwP223 Жыл бұрын
@@bobelliott9790 It's all relative to how well the carb is tuned, like if the tune is biased already (running safely leaner at low elevation), the type of engine (air vs water cooled), and so many variables come into play when we look at anecdotes. The most important FACT is that neither Lectron or Smartcarb have published test data on their elevation change compensation claims. Another fact is both of them claim totally different methods of compensating for density altitude, yet they don't compare each other or have comparisons with tradition flat slide carbs. Bob I believe you sir in your experience, please continue to give me a chance to explain. I have several years experience in engine calibration professionally, however I'm learning about carb stuff and I'm not better than you or anyone else who can make their bike go up a mountain without changing anything more than the air screw. Density-Altitude accounts for all factors, where the engine "only cares about" Density-Altitude and is not affected by elevation change alone. Here is a lemon vs lime argument because they're somewhat related, paramotors (powered paragliding) has been around for decades where the vast majority are 2-stroke engines, where the vast majority use a Walbro diaphragm carburetor, which is a staple in the high output commercial chainsaw market. There exists anecdotal video evidence of many pilots taking 2 strokes well beyond 10,000 ft mean sea level, after taking off from near sea level. Does the Walbro compensate for elevation changes too? It's possible, Mr. Elliot, that even though you've gone up in elevation, that weekends Density-Altitude may have skewed it to act as if it were at a lower elevation, the engine sees a lower elevation than you're GPS says. What this means is, you would have to account for this when determining the conditions the carburetor is experiencing. Because the community doesn't mention density-altitude doesn't mean it doesn't exist or isn't relevant, it is most relevant. It goes much deeper also with intake temperature alone and how it impacts combustion and ignition timing. I believe a properly tuned and consistent carb (like a Lectron) would perform well with elevation changes as Bobs experience seems to support.

In my opinion regarding gasgas, I'd much rather just spend less money on an older gasgas when they were the true brand and not just a red ktm. They were much better built in Spain and are simple being carb'd. Older models have absolutely bombproof motors and come factory with keihin carbs. My 2007 gasgas ec 250 supermoto is a beast and easily keeps up with newer ktm's ect... This is just my opinion and I'm not hating as I've owned newer bikes - I just prefer the simplicity and rigidity of older technology.
