Two protips for those feeling the scrap-collecting is too grindy and too slow: 1. Get those Projects going in the variosu strongholds ASAP, so that you can start accumulating scrap on a regular basis from early on. 2. When you come across those pick up trucks with a huge bag of scrap on the back, hijack them and bring them back to the stronghold. Those cars give you 500 scrap each, just for driving them back.

It's the sound effects, the visual effects, the screenshake and the micropauses that make the punches so satisfying. Also the animation is great and you actually see the punches connect with enemies spewing blood out of their nose when you break it. The game is one of these new age watered down quest things and not a real sandbox but I loved just driving around and getting into fights - it was so satisfying.

Not based on the recent movie, buddy ;) In fact, I'm not 100% sure about this but I think that thay started developing the game before the movie was even announced.. well, there are some references to the events of the movie *but* this game has its own story. And the game was made by the people behind the Just Cause games. Of course they're good ports, hehe.

What, you're saying the cars look the same as in the last movie? ALL the cars in the Mad Max universe are frankenstein'd scrapyard hotrods, they have to look like that.

This is the best review I've seen for this game. You're always so thorough, but also funny and eccentric. I bought this basically the minute it released. An excellent PC port, according to Total Biscuit. The particle effects are perhaps the best I've seen in a game. The effects are just stunning, from fire to sandstorms and explosions. I look forward to starting it soon.

This game has been panned by the critics but absolutely loved by gamers and that's what counts. Definitely a cult classic in the making (like the original film) and when the add some decent DLC to the mix it's going to make it more fun. I can only think of the possibilities with a sequel to this game. It will definitely be a franchise to be reckoned with.

The Road Warrior was shit? It was far more serious, though still cheesy at times, but it had a better storyline, villains, characters, and atmosphere. The first one, still a classic, was rather cheesy and acted like a thriller than an action packed film, but it was somewhat all over the damn place. Beyond Thunderdome was alright, until the kids rescue him than it lost its momentum. Fury Road was freaking great, though the storyline was lacking, because the movie is basically a giant chase scene.

I found that the batman combat was sooooo good! I know that it's not that realistic but it's a superhero game! And the combat does get a lot harder (In the games i played) as the story progressed, especially if you're trying to get a combo. I completely understand that people like different things in games, this is just my opinion.

+Worth A Buy Nice review, but a few things: - The combat is actually 5-6 buttons sooner or later: Attack, block, dodge as you said. But when you unlock more skills, there's a special action for many situations, like disarms, shield breaks, stuns, charges or executes (on the controller it's mapped to the A button). Also you will have more ammo later on, so you can use the shotgun more often in fights. You can use it as quick shot or aimed. - You should use the harpoon more often in car combat. E.g. when you killed the convoy at the end of the review (the car with the cogwheel symbol), you could use it to rip of the door, pull out the driver and then drive the abandonned car to one of your fortresses to get 500 scrap. - In storms, you survive longer by driving with the wind / debris direction instead of against it. When you do that, you can catch those cogwheel crates with your harpoon, stop the car, get out and open them for 300+ scrap. I'm usually staying in the storm for as long as possible and try to get like 5-6 of those crates.

For those still on the fence about this game let me give you my 2cents on it. I have over 20 hours on it and its very well optimized, could not find a single bug or glitch. The graphics and all around atmosphere is really good as well, it draws you in, you feel like you really are in a dry unforgiving world where food, water, ammo etc are as rare as gold. The combat as mentioned in this review is a bit simple but it is rewarding. And there is actually a little depth to it where some enemies are too fast to hit, they dodge all your moves so your only hope is to counter their attack in order to do some damage, others carry shields so your forced to either use your gun or load up on a punch to break down their shield. Car combat is where this game really shines, you can ram, you use your harpoon to rip the driver out of their cars, or rip a wheel off, you can use a missile launcher as well which is unlocked later in the game and there is also a side burner, basically a flame thrower that uses your gas supply to burn other cars close to you not to mention your trusty shotgun that can be used to place a well aimed shot in that gas tank, exploding your enemy instantly. The upgrades are really rewarding, harpoon gets stronger, able to take out armored cars, engine, suspension, and a host of other parts can all be upgraded, making the car faster, better manuvering, better grip, etc. You can even put wheel spikes that do damage if you rub up on an enemy vehicle. The car being the most important tool you have, the sense of accomplishment you get when you upgrade it is really cool. Max himself can also be upgraded, besides the perk system there are better leather jackets, gloves, wrist pads, etc all of which offer better protection and damage output. His appearance can also be change, longer, hair, beard, face paint, etc. The base upgrades are also a nice touch, not only are you helping the base occupants it also offers you some benefits such as instant gas refueling when entering the base, one upgrade will even slowly collect scraps for you while your offline! So you come back to the game and find a nice little scrap bonus collected overnight. The open world is big, its really expansive and 20 hours in I have barely seen half of it. Story wise the game is lacking, not really an amazing story you are following but it does make sense and tie the game into a cohesive plot. Im sure ill be discovering alot as i progress in the game, its well worth the buy.

This game is excellent, you can even activate video mode. On the controller it's pressing both thumbsticks down and it allows you to customize the depth of field, the field of view and you can even remove the HUD if you wanted to which is how I'm playing now. You can make the game look beautiful and I removed the HUD, brought the camera in closer to Max and applied a blur effect to far away distances in the game and it's absolutely breathtaking even on the PlayStation 4 and with the HUD removed, you don't get the icons above the enemies heads so you do have to watch the enemies and it's just so good. I commend Avalanche Studios and I'm actually upset that I didn't buy the game because it's a free PSN game this month. Way to go Avalanche.

I bought this on sale for $9 and it's worth every penny. If this game was made in 2009 it would have won best game of the year. That being said, it's basic mele with parrying over and over. When you aren't doing that you're picking up scrap and bullets around the map. There's a story somewhere in its thin narrative but regardless. It's fun.

I'm thoroughly really enjoying the game . I bought a copy , rarely ever buy games bcuz I got gamefly, watched a few gameplay clips and it def got me intrigued in this game . absolutely worth a rent and play through guys. the scenery and graphics are top notch. the lighting/shading and atmosphere are phenomenal. very realistic style and gameplay mechanics, food,water,ammo ,fuel are scarce, after all its a post apocalyptic world, I really like this bcuz it adds a lot of realism to the world. combat is very gratifying, trying to stack up the combo meter as high as I could without getting hit is alotta fun. story is cool, I like it . it's str8 foward but makes sense, you have a clear goal from the get go. the car combat is stellar, building up the car is very gratifying bcuz u can feel the car getting more powerful as you do. love the sick harpoon you use to pull car doors, tires, bumpers, even the drivers right out of there cars completely immobolizing them. the Map is huge tons of stuff to Do. lots to explore . lots of stuff to unlock. def worth checking out, I'm having a blast playing the game . totally surprised at the quality and how addictive the game is to play .

Taking down convoys is super fun, the fist fights are satisfyingly brutal (especially after upgrading Max's skills), and the guys who did the sound design should get an award or something. Batman's combat is done similar as well. Issue was you were using a controller for AK which simplifies it even further, I would recommended checking out Asylum with KBM if you did enjoy the combat here since it practically is the same thing. Arguably Asylum is the best Batman anyway. Removes the open world dynamic if that is a bit boring for you and focuses much more on this combat style.

This is why I love your channel... Even though the game seems to be geared to the console side, you are not closed minded and will give credit where credit is due. A good honest personal opinion rather than a closed minded, or even worse a paid off opinion where devs give you a "donation" under the table to distort your opinion.

Mac, you always speak my mind, but I cant agree on one thing you said. You said that there are no good perk systems in games. You are wrong there. I played two games that would be crap without the perk system, Skyrim and Vampire the mascarade bloodlines. The perk systems in those games gives them re-playing features. The perk system is stupid in Mad Mac...ssssssss, I agree on that. :D

I saw ads for this game and to me it was yelling at the top of its long cash grab, however I trust all your reviews Mack and this video has really opened my mind and to this game and now I'm seriously considering buying it. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome (the third one) wasn't good but Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior was and still is one of the best action films of the 80's.

Yeah I would agree with you so much on this combat being way better than Arkham Knight. I thought I was part of the minority disliking the combat in the Arkham games since it seemed like EVERY reviewer seemed to love the batman combat so much. But Imo I'm probably also in the minority for this but my favourite hand to hand combat would be sleeping dogs because of how unforgiving screwing up the counter button was.

I like your videos so much Mack that I have opened all your videos in one tab each and started to play so I could raise the views for you. Unfortunately my computer crashed so I couldn't (had to open like 100 different browser windows) get the anticipated views that I wanted to give. Hopefully you see this message. It was between MGS and this for me due to the release dates, but there are so many games out there with so many systems employed in them that it gets kind of tired. This game is just plain fun. Build your badass car buy exploring and fighting. Sometimes you just want a simple game at the end of a working day, and this does it well. Good review

When i was 18 years old we fought with one sucker over i don`t remember what. He made "the killer" first punch in the nose. Then i wipe the floor with him. I like perks and level up skills and any general upgrading in a game, the more there are the more chance I will buy the game. I love making my character, or car, stronger and better able to survive. I never thought I wanted to buy this game but now I see all the possible upgrades I am having second thoughts.

At least the Batman games have a theme that's extremely well done. I feel like Batman and not like Ezio in a LOTR setting. A detailed and immersive theme makes you forget that you're playing another GTA/AssCreed reskin. The Arkham trilogy has that. This, like Shadow of Mordor, looks like it doesn't have that. Thanks for the review Mackx, the new Mad Max movie is a great action movie by the way.

Just finished this game. Why didn't you tell me to finish the main mission so I could have unlocked the damn V8 earlier. I played almost the whole f*cking game with a POS V6 bc I was worried about the finale. It's almost the opposite. Good review, Mack.

Awesome review. Teaches you how to fight people in real life. That's really effective actually. Hit first to the nose. Nothing dishonorable in breaking someone nose (in case of a unavoidable fight, of course).

Really? TBH I thought this was a mashup of everything bad about Batman: Arkham Knight and the Assassin's Creed series but done a hundred times worse. This game was so. Goddamn. REPETITIVE. And it didn't even have the decency to have an entertaining cast of characters like the Batman games did. Oh well, to each their own.

Well repetitive doesn't have to mean bad when the actual game mechanics are good and you enjoy them. As Mack said - the fights are satisfying and fun, the physics-based driving and fights are intense and cool and even grinding feels good in this game. But all this is very subjective of course...you said it best, to each their own ;)

I was let down by the on foot combat. Admittedly I was kind of sick of the Arkham combat formula when this game came out. I enjoyed it in Asylum, City, and Sleeping Dogs. I did also enjoy The Witcher 3 but NOT the actual combat aspect. I just wasn't like Mack when it came to how the combat ruined his enjoyment of the game as a whole. But I was kind of tired of it afterwards. I do agree with Mack that it is nice that it doesn't auto-target quite as much as in the Arkham games but I felt it simplified the already super-simple combat and while it had weight I still felt like it needed more to be able to interest me. I kind of felt considering the setting and franchise it would be a lot more raw, dirty, and brutal. Forgive me if I sound like little Ms. Psychopath but in the Mad Max universe it feels like when you aren't sticking improvised metal garbage to your car or wearing it as "clothes" you tend to be shoving it into someones skull. Enemies in the game often get improvised weapons... so why shouldn't Max be able to give them a quick whirl? Even if I did actually like how they handled his gun yet kept it as an "emergency" weapon with superbly limited use. The Car combat was the only thing that I feel they really did right in a gameplay sense. And to be fair, that WAS arguably one of the most important things to get right. You couldn't call it a Mad Max game with a straight face if there wasn't absurd mass vehicle-on-vehicle-on-gimp mayhem. But it wasn't enough to carry the game for me. I found the grinding to be some of the worst in the genre and I'll admit I'm already one of those people who tires quickly of this brand of Sandbox. Action Sandboxes aren't my favourite type of game to begin with (When it comes to open world type games I'm less a GTA person and more of a Skyrim person. Red Dead Redemption is a rare exception, largely due to writing and the novelty of the setting and Saints Row IV tickled me so it gets a pass too even if I more so just watched my wife play it than actually playing it myself.) but Mad Max just went overkill on how slow the grinding was and I hate the whole "Here's a bunch of the same exact thing you gotta do at least 5 goddamn times to make progress in an area" thing. It feels like a chore to me. If the game either was slightly more linear with less of the same repetitive tasks over and over or if it did what I often think this kind of game SHOULD do (I.E. Have more unique side quests that tell unique individual stories and don't have them OR the story missions gate you off. Make the structure more like open world RPGs do them.) then maybe the car combat could pull me through. As it stands though I just found what I did play of the game a total bore. Which is a shame because I've always been a little bit of a Mad Max fangirl and wanted a better game to keep the buzz from Fury Road going strong.
