The story of one of the city's most vibrant and exciting neighborhoods includes the tale of the arches, the rise-and abrupt fall-of Union Station, an incredible reunion of Civil War soldiers, the transformation of a tough, gritty neighborhood to an arts district, and the emergence of local festivals and traditions that have become part of the Short North's character.

Used to live on Melrose ave in 1952. Started to school at E. Linden elementary. ( was on Perdue ave I believe) Mrs. Beers was my teacher. Melrose ended at a corn field. Just across the corn field was Bridgeview golf course. My dad used to hit golf balls from our front yard to the course. Also lived on Loretta and went to Mcguffey elementary. Used to be a lumber yard in the area which burnt down . ( on Hudson St. ?? ) Anyone remember that? Also carried mail at Oakland Park in 1983.

Lived in Columbus for about 10 years. The Short North was always my favorite area of the city. From my involvement with the Rocky Horror cast there, I have attended many Gallery Hops and marched in many Doo Dah Parades. That's me at 51:44 mark. I still watch this video on occasion to bring back the memories.

I grew Up living in a home located on Norwich Ave & Pearl Alley ! Spent my Childhood rding my bike down High Street as far as 5th ave. Spent many hours on the OSU Campus where I delived the Lantern Newspaper. I later worked at a Bank in Downtown Columbus and spent many hours in the Short North ! My oldest sister from Chicago visited us and I picked her up at Union Station, just days before they began tearing it down. I now live in Germantown, TN and miss Columbus except during the Winter.

I grew up in Columbus and worked downtown before the Nationwide Plaza complex was started, which was the anchor for the downtown and near-downtown redevelopment in the late 1970's. At that time, the Short North area was largely inhabited with low income blue-collar workers and people on government assistance. A house raffle was instituted, where for a few dollars, one could participate in the raffle and possibly win a home. The deal was, I believe, that you had to occupy the home for a minimun of six years and make reasonable improvements. At the time, I would have never believed that the area would amount to anything, so I passed on that. The homes near Goodale Park were the only homes in that area that were desirable at the time. I should have gone for that house lottery . . . .

this is a good series, I just wish they talked more about the street aspect of some of these neighborhoods. They didn't mention the short north posse or how crime has been a big part of places like franklinton, hilltop and the south side. This series is more like a documentary for old rich white folks.

This is 10 years old and it already feels totally dated. The Short North is not what I remember it was when I lived there in 2002.

With the exception of a few nice neighborhoods such as Bexley, Upper Arlington, Grandview, German Village, and Clintonville, Columbus is one big slum with no sense of history.
