The good old days now the cockneys have all gone learned my trade in the old Kent road in 1965 the best time of my life spent there .The dun cow pup was only a few doors away from the shop I was working .Taylor Brothers Hairdressers now it's like Africa what a shame London has been fucked up .i am Greek was brought up a cockney and I am proud to call my self a cockney.moved away from London in 1986 moved up north I miss London very much specially THE OLD KENT ROAD I am 69 years old now and I wouldn't live in London now it would be like going to another country AFRICA.

Nicos Nicolas what makes you think being a Greek is anymore acceptable than being an African ? Africans in the Old Kent Rd, large contingency of Greeks/Turks in North London . Ultimately you're all foreigners in Britain .You must be incredibly naive to believe being a Greek makes you less of a foreigner in Britain.

I love this song and this version is really great! Thanks for this cracking vid!

Thanks Andrew! I only recorded it because I thought it was one of the strongest melodies I'd ever heard. This was just a home-video and I lived near the house where the song was written; ironically much closer to Shepherds Bush than Old Kent Road...
@BoredOfBills9 жыл бұрын
I LOVE that you are keeping this alive. The London songs need to live and the only way is to sing 'em....
@MrJameswingham7 жыл бұрын
It's just such a great melody. Albert's brother was tinkling with the tune downstairs while Albert was upstairs, shaving! He ran down and wouldn't leave the house until he'd written some lyrics...

I think perhaps 'wot cher' may be a corruption of or a colloquial version of 'what's here'.

I've seen the projected plans for the gentrification of the whole road...I'd better get down there quick!

Hardly no pups left in the old Kent road now they all gone because Muslims don't Drink and it's the same all over Britain.

There are some great songs. I love 'The Boy In The Gallery'. I recorded this in a cramped bedroom for fun...I'd love to do some songs properly but am not sure what the first step would be. Out of the bedroom probably!

Nice video even though there wasn't one shot of the Old Kent Rd it's self. Why video W11 ? Old Kent Rd is SE 1, 16 & 17
@MrJameswingham5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I didn't really plan this that well...it was just a bit of fun. I doubt the songwriters went down the Old Kent Road much either. I lived in W11 at the time and the song was written there- in a house off Royal Terrace, ...there's a blue plaque there now!

Old kent road is se1 se17 SE15 and Se16. Plus this is surrey quays not w11
@MrJameswingham4 жыл бұрын
@@orangejuice8163 I shot in W11, near where the writers of the song lived and wrote it. Bits by river were in Battersea, in an hommage to The Optimists film with Peter Sellers. Some bits in Bermondsey but yes, none on the Old Kent Road...I hadn't planned this and was just having fun!!!
