No you can't give this tank more gun depression, this gun has an massive gun breech and the turret roof is almost level with the gun, which means even if your hull doesent prevent you from depressing your gun further, the turret roof above your gun breech surtently will, unless you cut open the roof allowing the gun breech to elevate in order to depress the gun like on the ho-ri from warthunder

In the IS-3 always show your side armor to T49s if they are using the 152mm, since they can only shoot HE and HEAT, and the IS-3 has spaced armor on the side and HEAT and HE can’t cut through side armor and always try side hugging tanks it will be hard for them to pen

tell me about it, I got it and coming from the is1 I was like wow this will be fun. Long story short I played 3 games in the is3 and did no damage in any of them and was penned be 5 tanks at once because apparently everyone is flanking now. I ended up camping for a few rounds to get used to it's awful depression and accuracy and have still only killed 1 tank. Despite it being pretty disappointing, I have blocked a good amount of damage and am starting to warm up to it.

ISU-152,Obj. 704,maybe the Ho-Ris, and some other Super-High-Penetration Tanks can pen the front of it's Turret when they can manage to hit it. So,yes,in practice the IS-3s Turret will be impenetrable, although there is of course a few Tanks that can occasionally hit it juuuust right but that won't be very common. It'll be far more common they will simply aim for the Hull or just HE Splash

IS-3 is a legend, don't dismiss it as useless. EVER. Also, it's way better than IS-5 in so many ways you couldn't believe. Used to run it in tourneys not too long ago as well, even after the Obj 252 was introduced, just because it's way faster and sending 3 of them against enemy meds is almost always a guaranteed win, just get close, focus and they're dead. Old, but not forgotten

I'm grinding the IS-3 right now and it's pure suffering. Having only 5 degrees of gun depression with hull armor as bad as it has really makes it difficult to only show your turret when wanting to shoot back. And not being able to instantly purchase the tier 9 gun makes it even worse, the penetration of the T8 gun is horrific. They should either buff the hull armor so it's not easily penetrated when angled correctly or give it like 2 degrees more gun depression, so it can actually work certain ridge lines.

@@88werwolfhun88 I can play the game, I grinded the obj 268 line and that too had it's share of bad or purely team dependent tanks. But this is supposed to be a Frontline heavy with little frontal armor even T7's can pen through. It's not fun to grind when the entire line is mediocre to bad and the only reason i'm grinding it is because I know the IS-7 is way better for it's tier. Even the IS was better, because it had usable gun depression and the front armor wasn't terrible tier for tier. And how can they not increase it when it clearly won't touch the hull when they add even a single degree? The tank is outdated due to power creep, there's many more superior hull down tanks compared to it. Hell, even some mediums perform better than is hull down.

The IS-3 may have little gun depression because of how short the turret it. The gun mechanism inside the tank needs space above it to have gun depression, and the IS-3 doesn't seem to have much space between the gun and the roof.

The Is 3 is pretty solid, good for face hugging, plenty mobile, but it has been left behind. The WZ 112 Celestial is basically a slightly slower but better version of this. Its hull is better and it has NO weak spots on its turret.

Personally I love the IS-3. The gun its pretty solid, apart from the accuracy, the mobility is fantastic for a heavy, and the turret armor is great. I just hope that Wargaming eventually buffs the hull armor, just by a bit, so it can brawl better.

I think IS-3 gun depression is only 5 degrees because the drivers view port and hatch is directly below the gun. If the IS-3 had 8 degrees of gun depression the driver would not be able to see anything if the vehicle was in full hull defilade.

Russian tanks are known for having derp guns whether it's 400 or 640 alpha. You have to be smart on how you use the gun. Aim at the front part of a tank when they're flanking you. Especially when dealing with Lights and Mediums. Now the concern of doing this is whether or not the shell will hit or fly over the target which is really bad when you have long reloads.

If you want to know how it performs when using PC model for WOT Blitz check the is3 defender that has the HD PC WOT model on it which includes increasing of angling of the front. Power creep also. Should increase both to old IS tier 7 historical 120mm armor front. Will make a major difference.
