Considering the actual geography and the politics/circumstances of the war, it is possible that Mexico could wear down american morale like Vietnam did. Mexico's geography (especially the further south you go) gets really tough to traverse, and the fact diplomatic fallout of an unjust american invasion would make it harder to justify losing so many american lives to guerrillas in the Sierra Madre. Mexico knows how to fight defensively, especially when their country is at stake, under any under circumstance besides an american land grab or an unpopular overthrow of the government the US would win. But under the circumstances laid out here. The basic military comparison doesn't matter as much. What matters most is geography and morale. And in that, the country fighting a patriotic war for her very survival (especially ones as vast and treacherous as Mexico) always edge out.

They have poorly armed and trained troops with low morale that are likely to surrender, they have no experience in fighting a modern war, no feasible way to stop a M1A2 TUSK II Abrams tank, no sufficient way to protect against airstrikes or aerial reconnaissance, and being that they are surrounded by ocean, could be bombarded and starved into submission via naval blockade. And if Mexico started the war, then the blame would be on them and the American populous would support the war. Mexico would not be able to win against the US if it was just the two. But in reality Mexico has no political beef with any other large country and has many shared alliances with the US. It there were any war issues it would be short lived. Y'all also need to remember that mexico is dealing with many internal issues, their military branches are basically the equivalent to the US coast guard and national guard. You also don't mention the first gulf war when the US fought the 4th largest army and most experienced due to 10 yrs of war with Iran but it completely destroyed it with very few losses. Even in Operation Iraqi Freedom the US Marines eventually had to fight through 200,000 Iraqi Republican Guards (Iraq's Elite Force). There is a huge difference between having to fight guerrilla warfare and fighting conventional wars. Also if you break Afghanistan and Vietnam down into statistics you will see those wars are very one sided as far as casualties go. Also, the US left Vietnam once the North Vietnamese signed the Paris Peace Accords saying they would stop attacking. After the US Military left, the North Vietnamese broke the treaty and invaded a defenseless Saigon. Because of what happened after we left Vietnam is one of the reasons were are reluctant to leave Afghanistan today. You need to get some facts.
