In Ep. 613 of B-Schaeff Daily, Brenden Schaeffer uses the off-day via rainout to discuss a topic floating around the social media-sphere: Would the Cardinals listen to trade offers on Jordan Walker this month?
Walker isn't currently helping the club's pursuit of October baseball in 2024, considering he's down in Memphis still not hitting quite to expectations. And where exactly he fits on the roster in the bigs is still a question in a crowded Cardinal outfield.
But selling low sure isn't an advisable asset management strategy. And the Cardinals have been burned before. Oh, and could Walker still not be the answer to a right-handed production question that lingers in the St. Louis lineup?
A lot of angles to cover, but toward the end, we pose a couple of scenarios and ask whether those are examples that could compel the Cardinals to consider moving Walker. Realistic? Almost certainly not. But an interesting thought experiment at the least.

The fact that nobody can see that this is a coaching and development issue is just amazing. DeWitt messed up when he fired Schildt and kept Mo. The Cardinals will never be fixed until he rights this wrong. Just my opinion.

It was said earlier (@kengoetz) that you don't trade low and I totally agree. Walker is working on things as the cards have thrown a lot at him by asking him to learn outfield and to change his swing to elevate more. Also, we have been burnt in the past with outfielders. He is only 22 (i have socks that old!). Get out of his head and give him time to works through things. I would forget about him this year (unless he just takes off) and revisit in spring. The one scenario where i would bring him up is if the rest of team is hitting on all cylinders, there is an injury to an OF and thus a need. Perhaps Walker would benefit from the positive vibe (hitting is contagious) and the focus (and pressure to be the guy) would not be on him as much. Regarding Dylan, the sample size for Dylan is larger and i think we have a pretty good idea of what he is. Makes more sense to trade him and sell the fact that he is under control till 27, good defensively and perhaps he would benefit from a change of scenery. Totally agree everything you said about a starter. that is the need.

We have a surplus of good outfielders and unless his defensive skills have improved, Walker was weak in the outfield. We were also considering him as a replacement at 1st base for Goldy but as fine as Burleson has been- that position seems to be his. Hes already a fine hitter and can play the outfield or 1st with good defense. We do need pitching and if Walker can be a part of adding a good starter we should definitely trade him. Good pitching is a key need for the Cards and has been for many years.

I’m softening on the idea that Walker is “untradeable” Walker isn’t contributing this year and it’s not a certainty he pans out like fans think/hope….but a guy like Crochet would immediately put the Cardinals among the legit NL threats. Do I see Mozeliak being that aggressive…No, but that’s the move you make at the deadline if the goal is winning and a move like that would 100% require Walker as part of a trade package . For those that have FOMO…..Once upon a time, Dylan Carlson was seen as untradeable and now, it’s an inevitability that he gets moved. Either the Cardinals missed on their projection and evaluation or they fucked up his development. Cardinals become married to their “top prospects” and as of late, that attitude hasn’t panned out well Cardinals either move him (Walker) now while they still have youth and potential as selling points or they make room for him moving forward, because right now…..there are no spots available for Walker. I personally think Walker is the option to replace Goldschmidt IF they keep him. For those of you that can’t picture that……then what are they keeping him for…
@stephenconnell2689

@prestonbucher18 I agree on so many points you made. I think Burleson is the future first baseman. So, yes, for the right deal, you make the trade. I get criticism all the time, wanting to trade popular players. The same people say trade Carlson...well too late to get the value back. Same with O'Neill, we traded him for no value this year to the Cardinals, and he is 260/16/35 when I last looked. People need to revisit the Colby Rasmus trade. We traded the un-tradable for a couple of relievers who contributed to us winning the World Series

It would be so on brand for the Cardinals to trade a guy at his lowest value (see Gallen, Alcantara, Arozarena, Garcia) and then for him to go and rake with another team. I mean, I guess if you're going to trade him, trade him now so he doesn't become the next Dylan Carlson, because it's clear the Cardinals struggle to develop their top prospect talent while guys like Donovan and Edman somehow manage to make it
@prestonbucher18
@prestonbucher18 Ай бұрын
@@mooninites755 Sort of makes you wonder if the issue isn’t with development, but with projections and evaluation. The “experts” get it wrong all the time and it’s nearly impossible to predict how an 18 year old high schooler will project out. Think about the last 20 years….How many “Can’t Miss” guys failed to pan out. Delmon Young, Mark Appel, Bryan Bullington, Tim Beckham, Bubba Starling, Tyler Kolek, Lewis Brinson, Jo Adell……I could go on, but I think the point is made. Sometimes the experts get it wrong.

Better question, can we trade Luken Baker for a starting pitcher? He’s got 25 💣 home runs this year in AAA. To me he’s kind of like a Kinser type of guy, which of course didn’t get renewed. Walker is like 21 and has lots of time to grow. He has the size, but his glove is a liability in the OF. For Walker he should strive to be a 15-20 hr type of guy and 100 RBIs, which would be a great addition if those stats held up. However, he’s not hitting and it feels like with Walker paralysis by analysis. Constantly tinkering and now he can’t hit anything. We are concerned but not to the level of a trade piece.

What’s the upside and rationale in waiting? There’s two scenarios here. He either turns the corner and then there’s no need to trade him…..or he doesn’t and you’ve now further diluted his trade value. I don’t have a crystal ball and neither do you and FOMO can’t drive decision making. That didn’t work with O’Neill and hasn’t worked with Carlson. Walker is young and is coming off a relatively good rookie season. As you’d asserted before, I don’t think Moz ought to be allowed to trade ANYONE still under team control, their recent surge notwithstanding. Before Pythagoras was incorporated into MLB fans were a lot less interested in the projected outcomes. Now we’re all like, yeah the projections seem more realistic than the emotional expectations. Just remember: Aaron Judge was sent back to the minors after struggling as a rookie. And Walker might not be Judge, he might even be better. And if we trade him, of course he will.

Thinking just relax on Jordan. Let’s see how he matures. He’s either a baller or not. I’d rather focus on what’s happening with the parent club now. 2 big series before the all-star game. Cubs trying to create some momentum, and waxing the Orioles last night in Baltimore 9-2 is a thing. Hoping our hitting continues to trend positively. Wishing the best for Jordan. Was thinking he could be our Judge. Perhaps that was too much pressure to put on him. It took Judge a while to figure it out. Hoping the same happens here. Go Cardinals. I'm hearing everything you said BSchaeff, and I'm SO on the fence with this. I'm extremely concerned about JWalk and maybe I'm not really paying attention. What was so wrong with him when they originally brought him up that they felt they needed to "tweek" his swing? I felt like they broke em. I think his confidence may be shot and I don't think this organization has what they need to fix him. And when he gets traded, yes, he will mirror what Arozarena and Garcia have done with other teams. He actually may need it - get with a team that can actually develop him and let him be who he is. I've been saying reluctantly to trade em. I don't wanna see him go, but I think it's best for HIM. Screw this team - FREE Jordan Walker.

The Cardinals are a part of the problem. We bring up Gorman and turn him into a second baseman. We bring up Walker and tell him you are going to learn to play the outfield at the major league level. Edman and Donovan win gold gloves as infielders, and because they are so good defensively, they're outfielders.Carlson has, between injury and mixed messages like making O'Neill opening day centerfielder which mismanaged both players. Now, we are going to alter Walker's swing for the launch angle? Just let his natural swing talent take over. If you want to win before Goldschmidt and Mozaliak leave, then some of those guys should be in a trade. Rooker/Miller from the A's would get me dealing. Scherzer/Yates from the Ranger would do it. Need right-handed power ? Tyler O'Neill... If we traded him to Boston, it should have been more of a Chris Sale swap or kept him for the last year of his deal. A #2 pitcher and a clutch hitter would make this a playoff team. I liked Lane Thomas, but a Jon Lester caliber pitcher now would be nice. Yes, on the White Sox trade. Crochet/Roberts would really be going for it. Roberts has been injured, but Roberts can match those Walker numbers. Put Roberts in a corner outfield and leave Siani in centerfield.

NO WAY TRADE WALKER at this point cant give up on this big guy yet! it could be like trading away a 22 year old frank robinson type or the Frank "big hurt"Thomas

Or Judge. Didn’t sniff MLB till he was 24 and only played 27 games and batted .179. The next year he was an all star at 25.

What happens once mo and marmol are gone? Who’s gonna be taking the blame for everything? It’s their fault walker isn’t producing like it’s their fault Goldschmidt and Arenado suck now.

Walker is still so young. He could be in the minors for 2 more years and he’d still be under 25.

Walker is not going anywhere.for one thing any scout who watches video of him knows he has a fatal flaw.he cannot or will not stop chasing bad pitches.i like jordan, but the fact is he is a another joe charbonneaù.and they ,the other clubs know this

It isn't click bait. Click bait is when you tease something in the title that you don't talk about in the video or article. I talk extensively about the notion of trading Jordan Walker in the video. I answer the question posed. You have the wrong definition. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh, I'm sorry. I find the notion that mo would chance having Jordan explode in his face and the fans crucify him as ludicrous as obvious, strict definition wise, you are correct, i apologize. Was said when I realized it was really much ado about nothing, and just a daily gab, hence my statement.
