FOR ME, I’m a big fan of 1st dates at Barnes and Noble/cafe bookstore. You can get a drink, sit or walk around discussing a favorite book. Go into music area and check eachothers tastes. Go into the children’s section and reminisce about what got you into reading. For me, it tells me a lot about a person

Splitting the bill isn't exactly splitting check each outing but for example, one person pays for the first date then the other person pays the second date and so on. Doesn't put the burden all on one in a relationship but mutual investment (emotionally and financially) in building it on a solid foundation.

At 47, I think the best first date is going to a furniture store. Bring drinks, preferably slightly spiked, and wander the store chatting, comparing your furniture styles, but then also act like a completely disagreeing couple whenever approached by sales folks. Obviously if you end up testing mattresses, the date is going well. If you get stuck on end tablea or maybe a floor lamp, it’s either a bad sign or a fetish in common.
