Absolutely ! Been driving a 579 about 5 years now . Mid roof , stacks , 18 manual. Good mix of old & new. Love driving it , don’t miss my 389 at all . The soft clutch , visibility & nice short stroke shifter. Just got a new 2024 , and only mistake is the dash. It’s kinda cool at first but No… just isn’t right. Fixed those sliding cup holders tho , it’s great !

Being a former owner operator after 30 years being put out to pasture by DOT, (medically retired), the Red Wine Merlot/Burgundy 579 is all I really liked.

Good video but, it’s sad you don’t have the 389 to show anymore. I think Peterbilt made a huge mistake. It’s like the old saying, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I live 5 minutes away from a Peterbilt dealership in Auburn, Maine. I drive by almost everyday & see the replacement for the 389 sitting on the hill & say it’s the windshield it just doesn’t look right. I mentioned before to your channel that you got to hook up with SH Tube or some fabricator & make a strip to fit the center of the windshield from the inside. As much as you guys do to modify these trucks this should be a cake walk for Tommy & Brian. ❤ your videos & can’t wait for the windshield trim package.👍🇺🇸 Dave D from southern Maine.

I tend to agree I was in the yard in Denton at the first of the year watching the 389s go Now, the 589 is growing on me. The damn cab is the key The old trucks were B27s!
@murraygraham23857 ай бұрын
The old guys hated to see the 359 go, people said Peterbilt was making a big mistake. Then when they got rid of the 379 people were very upset and now the same as being said about the 389.
@davidklauer34227 ай бұрын
International went to a big cab in 2002 Western Star did it in what, the late 90s. I hate it, but it’s all about cab room and ergonomics I know because I’ve driven both for my local company for 7 years Btw, we’re a Peterbilt supplier right by the plant
@JasonMyers-c6z7 ай бұрын
This wasn't necessarily Peterbilt's fault. The E.P.A. and government cracked down on the trucking industry. Every year, the auto and truck manufacturers are forced to design "more aerodynamic" and "fuel efficient." I don't like the direction of the trucking industry is heading, either. My uncle bought and spec'd out one of the last 389's. Very sad, indeed.

@WillVanHorn-po8xw7 ай бұрын
I had a 2016 579 w/80 in sleeper for 5 years. Really like the truck but PACCAR motor 13 speed. Never again PACCAR. X15 perf only. The other gripe had, the sleeper was only 68" not 80". The fallacy is that Petercar measures the sleeper from the back of seat base, NOT from the joint at the back of the cab. Really do like the 579 290" W/B. Very nice! But I do favor a hood.

I wish I could afford the down payment. The long wheelbase 579 ultra cab in the grey ford uses on their raptors with color matched grill surround and bumper, color matched half fenders and rear t bar would look awesome. Of course ditching the skirts and color matching the tanks and putting stacks by the doors would be cool too.
@relaxing_white_noises_by_j19807 ай бұрын
Stacks by the doors on a 579 means you're ok with the driver's side exhaust being fake from the factory. The aftermarket has ways to fix that problem though.
@christopherthompson57857 ай бұрын
Honestly, “fake” stacks or not hooked up it probably better with the aftertreatment heat. Run dummy pipes and put a four inch amber in the bottom on bright mode and make it look like you’re putting some heat out. Lol. The guys at Fitzgerald have made some systems before on the 389’s work that were redesigns. The work with Chad Berry all the time I’m sure they could come up with something.

The red truck is pretty and it does have a ton of room in the sleeper though which is nice. It would be cool if the red truck that has the stacks could be changed somehow so the stacks were mounted where they are supposed to be, but at least it does have stacks, and even though they aren't separated, they will both still work.

The only part that sucks about these trucks is driving in the snow. Automatics are risky for driving in the snow, and the low profile means you are going to get stuck if not beat your plastic panels up.
@johngrabowski29577 ай бұрын
My last truck was an auto, been driving 33 years. Based out of Montana seen PLENTY of snow. Zero problems. Did run it in manual.
@Unduplicatable7 ай бұрын
@@johngrabowski2957 yeah? I deal with the snow every year, too. In the mornings the only trucks I can move are manuals. The autos need to be placed on blocks otherwise I have to chain up. If I spin a manual too hard then yeah I need to chain up, but it's way easier getting around the yard with a manual truck, plus I have space to move to the sleeper. On roads with ice like going through Ritzville, the autos just slide like crazy while the manuals have much more control. It's unfair that the autos cut power so much when sliding, too, especially as you usually need it like going up steep hills and deep snow and such.
@johngrabowski29577 ай бұрын
@@Unduplicatable in an auto the clutch release, there is an actual clutch down yonder, is in the 1st like 3” of throttle. You can feather it, and actually rock the truck with it if you practice.
