Lots of cars 5k and under still have lots of life left in them. This video shows the non mechanical buyer the things that garages should be doing like you do for your customers. I think given the increased living costs and repossessions you are in a very good price bracket for your cars. Very interesting videos. Continued success.

If my 2011 Panda hadn't just passed it's MOT this week, that's the sort of car I'd have been in the market for and if I'm getting a well fettled car for that price and you're getting a decent margin from it then everyone is a winner. We can't all be in the position to be spending £10-15k on a second hand motor.

DO NOT BUY ANOTHER FIAT lol I own a 2013 500 and its been a nightmare , cost me around £1000 to repair gearbox clutch shocks brakes and new tyres , I would advise buying a Toyota or a Mitsubishi , I used to own a 2007 Colt and it drove way better than the Fiat 500 and was a lot faster , never had an issue with that car but sadly someone hit it and wrote it off so bought the Fiat 500 as i love how they look but Fiat=Shiat lol had to make it rhyme lol

@@christineayres7199 I'd only buy a Panda or a Punto, nothing else, don't worry lol. It's funny that underneath a Panda and a 500 are the same car and yet 500's have loads of issues and yet Panda's not so many. I think it could be down to the nature of the first owners driving them differently. I've had mainly just running costs and known issues like the sump, the rear hatch electrics issue and the coolant pipe across the front of the engine leaking but overall its been a damned good car. Had it 4 years, put on 36k and just passed its test for £350, its a high miler petrol too (126k) and I'll keep it til it drops to bits, maybe another 2 years as my mileage has gone up tp 15k a year.

I drive a 25 year old Audi and a twenty year old volvo. Both just passed MOT total cost £ 290 for two tyres on the volvo couple of bulbs and MOT cert. So I do think you are right to refresh older cars! You also are enabling those with less deep pockets to actually get a vehicle, a real issue for younger drivers who will face massive costs for initial insurance. I think the whole deal will only win you more customers and repeat business from family contacts along the way. Good on you!!!

The 1.2 8valve in my Fiat 500 has been reliable , the problem is the rest of the car falls apart lol , new Gearbox bearings clutch shocks brakes tyres etc , not very good for a 10 year old vehicle especially considering i used to own a 2007 Colt and it never had 1 issue in the many years i owned it , sadly i got suckered into buying the 500 as it looks so beautiful , Fiat are like the fake Chinese Rolex watch of the car world , they look good but will fall apart. lol

Check the sub-frame behind the lower arms, they go holey. That driveshaft may be okay, the gearbox selector shaft seals above go and the oil runs down and looks like the drive shaft seal has failed. You're lucky the paint is also good as the white ones have a paint flake issue over the roof and bonnet, often looks like a poor respray flaking off but actually the original paint (happened to ours). I think the 500's also suffer similarly. Good luck nice to see it live on.

I wouldn't change the rear springs if they're OK and I'd only do the offside lower link if the nearside is OK, nearside probably done at some point because it's always the nearside that fails first. I reckon customer would be more bothered about the bit of rust on the offside front wheel arch. Good to see you fighting your way back, hope you got that dodgy toof sorted before you started on the Punto!

Agree 100% as i got scammed too , bought a 2013 Fiat 500 beautiful looking car in Modena Yellow but paid £3000 for it then a month later clutch and gearbox went bang , cost me £800 to repair and i had to get the motoring ombudsman to write to the dealership to get £400 of that repair money back , they refused to pay me the full price of the repair and if i had gone to court well it would have taken months to get anywhere , also i had to replace the brakes and shocks recently , so in total around £600 of my own cash gone in the last 6 months , If i sell it i will be very lucky to get £2 grand back , so am just keeping it as Mot is due in December , once i get it through that then will sell as winter is a bad time anyway to sell a car.

Hello Lee, yes I would repair and refurbish the Punto. Despite its high mileage, it’s not rusty and if it can pass its MOT easy enough, then why not refurbish it. We are too quick to junk cars that still have life in them. It will serve someone well for a few years yet and that person on a tight budget wouldn’t have a car otherwise. Good work I would say. Helped my lad get his first car almost 2 years ago. Punto 1.4 EVO 2010 100ish k miles. Paid £1400 this was when a really rough Corsa was 2k and prices were mad. Needed exhaust, service, cambelt and other bits. That cost just shy of 1k. Bodywork fair, wheels bit tatty but tyres all good. Told my lad to get it serviced annually which he does and also needed an alternator after a year. Now if he keeps it for 5 years builds his no claims up then sells it for sub 1k. Would have cost him about £400 a year depreciation. Annual servicing and parts cheap on this car so saved a bit compared with something else as well. He owns it and can afford it and not losing loads on depreciation or finance costs or costs on repairing small scrapes which he has as first car. So in a nutshell ideal first car until he wants to spend a bit more in a few years.

Apart from servicing, tyre changes, and cam belt/water pump at 80k, she's cost me barely anything bar a new starter motor and battery a few months ago (original battery). Yeah that was true of my old Mitsubishi Colt from 2007 that car was indestructible , timing chain 1.1 engine it got to 135 thousand miles and was still pulling well but sadly an OAP smashed into it on a roundabout and it got scrapped , I wasnt too sad as the car only cost me £600 in 2017 and lasted until Nov 2023 , I then made the big big mistake of Buying a 2013 Fiat 500 in March this year and ever since then its been a problem , Gear bearings and clutch went £800 down the drain , then the handbrake snapped another £80 then shocks and brakes went so around £150 and had to put tyres on another £120 for cheap China made tyres , I paid £3 grand for it and will be lucky to get £2 grand back , so yeah dont buy Italian cars they look lovely but will hurt your pocket , Alfa Romeo Giulia another good example lol

It might cost him money to trade it on. Say he gets what he paid, he’s also brought it back on a wagon, that costs a bit of money, has to take it back to auction again or spend time trading it on. Obviously he doesn’t want too many like that on the go at once, but having one among many others isn’t too bad. After all, there’s still profit in it…..if there wasn’t a profit in it, he may as well stay in bed

This throw away society that we live in unfortunately sees many cars which could be given a new lease of life just sent to the scrap yard which is a shame. I think these sort of cars are ideal for people who are very hands on and like a bit of a project

Given the costs to you with your own mechanic, it's definitely worth doing. But for the bloke in the street who has to take it to a garage and pay £50 or more per hour, then it probably isn't. I do like to see older things kept going, far better for the world/ environment than binning stuff and buying new. There could easy be another 10 years life in that car once you've titivated it.

I never understand the throwaway culture, my car is 21 years old. It does cost me a lot in repairs, but, it's still a viable car.

Blimey! I have just forked out £9995 on a low mileage 18 plate Captur from a Renault main dealer, all 4 diamond cut alloys need refurbishing and it's going to cost me best part of £300 of my own money to get it done, your work does you credit. Few dealers round here seem to do cosmetic stuff on a PDI it seems, I have seen good cars for sale with some very tatty alloys.

I think you are likely to make a profit on it. The main issue is time. The faster the turn over the more money you will make. Cars sitting in the garage or in the lot make no money whilst they are there. Anyway you are probably the best judge on this & will make the best decision.

Suspension rusts as you can see with the car but it's not terminal on the main components. Do you ever say put Lanoguard or Bilt anti rust on to future protect them?

It's worth spending the money to fix it and sell it. There is still going to be a good profit in it. Definitely fly at £2295. Would be a great buy!
